This is a great song penned by Kaifi Azmi (Shabana Azmi's communist father), and composed by the melodic Madan Mohan. The latter was born in Iraq and initially became an Indusian Armyman. No doubt he was able to create great melodies for this 'fauji' morale-boosting movie made in 1964.
Director Chetan Anand's (Dev Anand's brother) Haqeeqat starred Balraj Sahni and Dharmendra and was based on the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
Notice that the (masteres in English literature) hero, Balraj Sahni, (Rawalpindi-born, ex-Ravian from Government College Lahore) does NOT get to lip-synch (03:00 ) on screen for this song!
This film saw Rafi, Talat, Manna Dey, and Bhupendra singing together AND separtely! Bhupendra appeared on the screen for the first time, much before he established himself as a popular playback singer.
This a very long song in wonderful black and white. It is totally unsuitable for today's suicide bombing Tall-Ebans, who think of heaven and not their beloveds at home. What a shame Kaifi Azmi sahib.
Pak Armymen need not feel bad watching this, the Indian Armymen are as human as anybody and fully capable of loving and hating. The appearance of very ordinary-looking men on screen gives the film a very real look.

I presume you've addressed that to the masses and not to me!
*"Its the usual, but ugly, ways of commercialism"
my appologies.
Because you recently addressed me the way you address your own father, I won't bother answering you.
Mine is not a 'harsh generalization', lyrical impotency comes with McDonalization of poetic thought. Now, as far as the debauched tastes of common people are concerned, I must quote here something which I'm pleased to add to my Chowq profile:
'Now Art should never try to be popular. The public should try to make itself artistic.' (--O.W.)
Dana my man/woman, that's it! THAT is the next song I was going to post but now that you've spoilt the surprise, I'll postpone my move.
The next time you're able to read my mind, send me a private message through Chowq's Slutmail Center, but be advised, they monitored everything.
:)
Heaven knows why the hell, stylistically, today's poets are impotent. But do remind me to write about what Raj Kapoor once said to me when I asked him why he didn't produce films such as Mera Naam Joker.
