Memoranda on the Indian States 1940

Until 14th century Kashmir was subject to series of Buddhist and Hindu dynasties. Until Akber another Mohammed dynasty ruled Kashmir (1587) and it remained the summer residence of Moghul rulers.

The Treaty ensures the supremacy of British & the Kashmir ruler is bound to pay British :

1. One horse
2. Twelve goats
3. Three pairs of Kashmir shawls

Later the Tretay was altered as

1. Two Kashmir shawls
2. Three romals (hankies).

With this started the political entity of Kashmir under British.
