Dr. Tasneem Zehra Husain ....
Tasneem Zehra Hussain
Assistant Professor of Physics
School of Science and Engineering (SSE),
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS),
Lahore....
Tasneem Zehra Husain obtained a B.Sc from Kinnaird College, Lahore, an M.Sc. in Physics from Quaid-e-Azam University and spent a year doing post-graduate work in High Energy Physics at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) before going to Stockholm University for her Ph.D. Tasneem then went on to join the High Energy Theory Group at Harvard as a post-doctoral researcher. She is currently interested in using methods of 11-dimensional supergravity to arrive at a classification of the backgrounds that arise when M-branes wrap supersymmetric cycles.
Tasneem has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work at several national and international conferences. Her awards have included the Vice Chancellor's gold medal and the Phillip's gold medal at the Quaid-e-Azam university, the Boswell medal for the best graduating science student from Kinnaird College, and a couple of international awards for her writing.
Tasneem has represented Pakistan at the Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany and led the Pakistan team to the WYP Launch Conference in Paris.
Tasneem is keenly interested in education and science popularization. She designed Pakistan's logo for the World Year of Physics (WYP) and was an active participant in the WYP Physics Stories project, lead by Argonne National Laboratories.
In an effort to make contemporary theoretical physics accessible to high-school students, Tasneem developed a series of animated presentations which she then presented in front of several audiences. She has taught at Kinnaird College, helped with training Pakistan's team to the International Olympiads and is on the Board of Directors of the Alif Laila Book Bus Society (a non-profit educational institution catering primarily to under-privileged children).
