they have been doing that for quite some time actually. their PhD programs in Economics, and perhaps mathematics also, have been on for quite some years now. There is a good Physics department; particularly the high energy physics group which currently constitutes of Prof Faheem, Tasneem Zehra and Asad Naqvi is a pretty fine one and should be producing some PhDs pretty soon. Last I met him, there were a couple of students already working with Sabieh for their PhD.

That is an interesting move indeed Shobig. You're right to feel wary of the corporate culture too. I've seen two room "universities" pop up in Islamabad.

LUMS however has been a prestigious institute...let's see what changes they bring...

Are they doing more than minting MBA's these days?

cyclone, almost all of them are at LUMS, Lahore. LUMS has taken the bold and perhaps much needed initiative to drag the cream of Pakistani (scientific) intellect back into Pakistan, for its SSE. Lets see how far it works. On the other hand, I don't really appreciate the growing corporate culture in the education sector as a result of such initiatives. Prof. Hoodbhoy has a lot to do with the recent recruitments by LUMS. check www.LUMS.edu.pk (go to SSE homepage) It has only just started its undergraduate program in certain fundamental science disciplines.

dawa ji,

where do you get all the CV's ? :D

It would be nice if you just removed the email and phone numbers from them before posting. They will get a lot of spam and unwanted attention otherwise.
