I qualified as a Barrister from Lincoln`s Inn, UK, in June 1958. After practising for 2 years at the Bombay High Court, I joined Lever Brothers` Bombay Head Office as legal counsel. Didnt much like the commercial life; so left this MNC to become a journalist in New Delhi, where I was for more than 18 years Senior Assistant Editor/Political Editorial Writer at the Hindustan Times and later for a short while Executive Editor/National Columnist at India Today newsmagazine. Have worked freelance as producer/presenter of Current Affairs programmes for Doordarshan, India`s public broadcasting service. Updating my profile in 2004-05, I am now 76 years old, still in deep retirement in Pune to which I moved permanently in Oct 2004. Am still busy writing my possibly unpublishable, controversial book on Islam and Modernity.
