Is the Mumbai Swarm Thinning?

Sunil - I havent been to Bombay in a while but I cant imagine it without the crowds. And driving in the city - I remember a drive that lasted two hours, from town to andheri. i`ll believe the change when i see it :)

Sunil, i was last in the city in 1989, it was very crowded then, i am glad that it has eased out a lilttle. i found it so safe and the taxi drivers honest - as compared to delhi and the people so non judgemental.

Why are we calling Mumbai, Bombay? I`m sure there are some who will be offended, at least that`s what my Indian friends seem to tell me.

i was in mumbai and andheri to town took barely 30 minute...this was the day after the deluge and all streets were empty.

if mumbai is less crowded, it does not feel that way. also it feels like the whole city is now a slum whereas before it had pockets of slums. its true however that employments is more spread out, in kurla-bandra complex, andheri-powai and new-bombay. also, a lot of professionals in non-govt sector work from home (my architect and accountant friends all work from home) thanks to the broadband internet.

but maybe its thinning..aaj-tak interviewed a hijra, and she complained about prices, and decided to move to pune or aurangabad for a better standard of living, and a new unexplored market.
