There is a sunni version apparently as well... Bin Baaz introduced it... Nikah-e-Miskaar or something like that.

Gill: It is very courageous of you to have written this. I hope you provided a steel cover over your house and appointed a bodyguard!

You raised a good point.
Well, there is no such concept in Islam as temporary marriage. If, you are talking about real Islam, then there is nothing as Mutha or anyother kind.......................
If, some shias or anyone else has had been practising such customs for their own pleasure, then please, do not connect this to Islam.
Anyone can get up and start convoluting Islam in the name of their own lust , that is not fair.
If, any shia or sunni stupid people start practising such stupid customs, and later try to attach them to Islam, obviously they are absuing the name of Islam.
God, knows why people do that? They can do what ever they wish to, but, please, i beg these stupid people NOT to use the name of Islam. They can buy sex, sell sex, but, not in the name of Islam.
Thanks

Zeena #3 and again #4: You are right Zeena.
Is this such a big problem that it had to be discussed now, when our attention is consumed by the Danes? Most probably not. Mr. Gill just wants some attention.

This is another one of the occasional eye-opener articles of value that you come up with. It has substance, it is well-researched, it makes sense to read it and it contrasts very well with some of the other stuff (not by you) which apparently gets written purely for individual stimulation.
I like the feeble attempt at humor at the end to take some of its sharp tip off.
How come you make no suggestions or recommendations or approaches for addressing the ``problem``.
Also, what is it about the mindset that allows people to ACCEPT such treatment of women and look the other way - and I am not talking about just the uneducated masses!

Gill sahib, Darbi is an idiot. :-)
No where does the requisite marriage to some one else before remarriage imply one night stands or forced rape.
If people do such, it`s an abuse clear and simple.
The actions of those Irani men were not mandated by Islamic law. Such was not what was not acceptable 1400 years ago, as you flippantly state, nor is it today.
Mutah was not necessarily male driven. There were cases during the Prophet`s (pbuh) time where women would proposition men...go figure.

Also, I had a discussion with Irani Shiah`s on the matter.
According to them, Mutah is for prostitutes. Culturally, it is not acceptable and is considered worse than fornication, even though it is religiously sanctioned.
I was baffled by the response, and I assumed it was the typical Irani-expat recoiling at anything Islamic. It turns out these gents were quite `spiritual`, and had a strong Muslim identity, so that wasn`t the case. Not only that, this sentiment (according to them) was widespread across all segments of Irani society.
Maybe it`s because women propositioning men was considered harmful or shameful (hence the attitude that this arrangement is for prostitutes), or that this tradition is at odds with the value macho cultures place on virginity.

All: Seriously, the crucial question is: does Islam allow the reverse of Mutah? That is, can an Islamic woman buy a man for short time? Should not that be required for equal rights, that some say, is granted in Islam?

Hi guys,
I think I know quite a bit about Shiaism. So let me explain what ``Mutah`` is. It was only allowed during the war period when soldiers invaded far flung places and stayed there for months or years. Iraniz are no authority over Shiaism and they are probably twisting the facts.

#9: HAHAHAHAHA!
Or sleep with a Bazooka under your pillow.
Zeena is the ultimate authority on Islam in my opinion and that is that.
She also knows a great deal about Budha.
Tell them Zeena.

``Commenting on this incident, Darabi expressed her disgust as follows: “I found this law barbaric and inhuman for several reasons, First, the woman’s feelings and rights are not considered and she is forced to be raped for one night by a total stranger. Second, the idea of a man paying another man to ravish his wife for an entire night is appalling. And finally, in the cases where the Muhallal does not divorce the woman, she is forced to live a life in misery (unless the Muhallal happens to be kinder than her ex-husband).”
I dont think so. Its always with mutual consent i.e. with the will of the woman. otherwiase its merely deception.

I am absolutely not authority on any religion. All i am asking is not to mislead people in the name of Islam or any religion. You can also be authority on any religion, if, you carefully read their basic scriptures in a clear mind. Thank you.
PS:-Quran is the authority for Islam. There is absolutely NO mention of such ugly practices.
If, someone lies and blames it on Islam, then we can`t do anything for that, except to clarify this isn`t the case.

prostitutes seeking religious or traditional sanction to maintain their sanity/dignity is observed in japanese geisha and indian devdasi custom. the devdasi is married to god, the god is her soulmate, and she merely rents out the shell of her body. hanging out with a devdasi is however not considered to have any specific religious sanction however.
there were cases of mutah sepcially in the deccan city of hydrabad when monied arab sheiks would visit for a holiday. however the sheiks were sunni, perhaps they did real nikah ..when 3-talaq is available, why bother with a mutah?
