#226 writes <<< Most of the people being help in gitmo are terrorists and what really worries me is the torture part...more precisely, the fact that the US isn`t using torture as much as it should >>>
When were the trials held and convictions handed out? George Bush`s whim does not count as a court of law. Maybe I missed out on some news while reading the BS that these bigots write. Fill me in, when were convictions handed out? Trials?

I`m not a hindu..but i sure as heck support what the US government is doing in gitmo as much i`m against what they`re doing in abu ghraib..
Most of the people being help in gitmo are terrorists and what really worries me is the torture part...more precisely, the fact that the US isn`t using torture as much as it should..I am 100% in favor of the CIA torturing the gitmo prisoners using any and every means available to them..

Why do Indian Hindus support Guantanamo?

This is curious. Why should Indian communists protest about what happens in China for the rights of the downtrodden?
They`re protesting for the rights of the Iraqis and the afghans, aren`t they? Please tell me you think the commies/muslims out protesting bush are doing so because they have Indian interests in mind..
And you still haven`t told us why the commies/leftists protesting against Bush weren`t out protesting against Musharraf or the saudi king, both of whom are directly responsible for the deaths of Indian citizens..
Deaths of Indian citizens = chalta hai
Deaths of Iraqi citizens = protest..
is that simple enough for you?

[(We are spending most of our money on defence. Not on education, literacy, health. What kind of upward mobility is this?]
No, the government doesn`t have to spend money on education. Because it has been shown that government schools are the pits. And of course the teachers are selected not because they love teaching but because they belong to SC/ST/BC/MBC/OBC, etc.]
Not everyone has access to private schools, like the example you gave. How many people manage to get admission in those institutions? And what about health? Do you know the number of people who die of malnutrition, infanticide, sheer carelessness? Spending money on nukes is upwarde mobility? So you can show the world that you have a weapon too...
[Brida and Prakash Karat dare not protest for the rights of the downtrodden in China but they are prepared to protest in India. They had no complaints that the newest airport in Hong Kong was built by foreign companies but demand that the airports in Delhi and Bombay should be built by shiftless @rseholes so that we can take pride in our lack of craftsmanship. They have not protested the destruction of good housing stock in Beijing for the Olympics but protest against removal of slums and encroachments in Indian cities.]
This is curious. Why should Indian communists protest about what happens in China for the rights of the downtrodden? I can understand if you want them to protest against human rights violations...Let the Chinese deal with HK airport and other issues. I wonder why your heart goes out to the homeless in China but you seem to gloat over the bulldozing of slums in India. It is sad indeed that you do not trust our abilities to construct and build.
And yet your friends here will call you the epitome of a patriotic Indian. See what a nice li`l name can do?
Who told you that the communists take pride in the dirt and filth in India? They are the ones who think WE can do it; it is NRIs like you who have doubts...

I agree that the socialists of the pre-independence era messed up after independence, but then they chose to be called Congressmen/women, not Communists!

I already posted something on that, so do not rub it in. Instead of astrology I was banking heavily on auto-suggestion :-)

[Please do not lie about the the indian communists. To this day, they worship mass murderers like Mao and Stalin.
It is shameful that people are trying to whitewash these realities. Let us use a single standard to judge all leaders; whether Narendra Modi or Prakash Karat.]
If a few `worship` them as deities, they are holding on to some Red Book, like clutching on to some scripture/holy text to identify themselves. You do have national leaders claiming to admire Hitler.
There is no comparison between Modi and Karat; Karat has not been behind the murders of his own people or of anyone.
And you do need to have different standards to judge different ideologies.

Calcutta Remembers Stalin With great Reverence
With due solemnity, the 51st death anniversary of Comrade Stalin, the great leader of the proletariat was observed on 5th March, 2004. To commemorate the occasion a meeting was organized at the University Institute Hall, Calcutta which was presided over by Comrade Manik Mukherjee, member of West Bengal Secretariat and Central Staff. Comrade Provash Ghosh, member, central committee and Secretary, West Bengal State Committee was the main speaker. Also seated on the dais were Comrades Anil Sen, Sukomol Dasgupta and Asit Bhattacharyya, all central committee members.
At the outset of his speech, Comrade Provash Ghosh said, on this day the teachings and contributions of Comrade Stalin are remembered with reverence all over the world from Russia, China to East Europe, Latin America and Asia.
You Shall Remain Our Chairman Forever

ON the occasion of Mao Zedong’s birth centenary, throughout the country a lot of discussions are going on, hosts of articles are being written and many functions are being organised. This new-found interest in Mao generates a lot of hope

farazana protest a lot. Let us give her her due...and at times the protestations are cute. Now the deal which was struck yesterday...here is a skeletal outline of it
the nuke deal of yesterday : (skeletal outline)
India will irreversibly classify 14 of its 22 nuclear power reactors as civilian;
For the first time, they will be regularly inspected by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog;
The rest will be labelled as military sites and will not be inspected;
India will continue to observe a freeze on nuclear testing;
In return, the US will give India civilian nuclear help.
Note the word ``irreversibly`` according to commentators it was this word that caused the problems.
that last phrase ``In return, the US will give India civilian nuclear help.`` is empty in real terms.
As a result of this deal India has all but signed the NPT. Now will pakistan follow suit ? Atleast to maintain symmetry - isnt this WHAT PAKISTAN IS ALL ABOUT? Symmetry and PARITY with India?

There are those who want to move on towards the 21st Century.
There are those who want to stay back in the 8th Century.
And then there are those who themselves move on to the 21st Century but want the masses to go back to the 8th Century.
In a democracy, there is room for all.
You have your space, I have mine.
And those who want to get along towards the 21st Century seem to have the numbers. Bad luck for those who would try to sell the 8th Century snake-oil, won`t work anymore, just doesn`t have the quality of a good fuel.
It won`t simmer, Farzana, it will bow and go out in front of the next breeze with fresh drizzle that wafts its way and then finally splutter out in the desert, alone.

Terrorism is not confined to one community,
Umm..yes it is...a terrorist is more likely to be a muslim...that`s just a fact..
I am truly appalled at the way in which people here are treating the whole idea of protest movements.
What`s appalling is that muslims turn out to protest Dubya for killing Iraqis but don`t turn out to protest musharraf or the saudi king, both of whom are responsible for the deaths of Indian citizens...Of course, the fact that those killed were mostly non-hindus is a major factor..

[.....saving people from being ``mass graved`` is one of the reasons that is still repeated by the Bush Administration to justify the invasion of Iraq, even though the probability that an Iraqi is going to get killed violently under U.S. occupation is 5800% greater than it was under Saddam. (end quote)
Now please remove that smiley photo before I vomit all over this keyboard. Thank you.]
But you wouldn`t vomit when you read that a Shia imambara was shot up by Sunnis in Pakistan, would you?
I didn`t think so.
