Parthaab : ``No visit of a foreigner has provoked such a backlash as far as I can remember, nor has any had a religious flavour to it. Can you?``
There are usually bigger protests in Kolkatta every time Ganguly gets dropped from the Indian team.
And the protest against Bush is totally communal. Pay attention to pictures of protesters in any anti-Bush rally in India. Over 95% will be ugly bearded men wearing skull caps.
Rest of the 5% will be made up of idiotic anti-India leftists like yourself.
Majority of the people of India (who fortunately remain hindu and non-commie) consider Bush to be a friend of India and see him as a hero for the way he has declared war on Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism. Majority of Indian muslims (who fortunately still remain a minority in India) hate Bush for the same reason....

``For three days, I will assume that the American President is god.
I will excuse the wars against innocent civilians as natural calamities orchestrated by god.
I will accept that people are tortured by American troops because it is their karma. ``
Good girl!
vaisay, itnay baRay sacrifice and heroics ki zaroorat nahin hai. I doubt dubya reads chowk. You can protest and whine away to your hearts content here.
Lemme help:
I will accept that shooting fellow hunters is a mere sport for this administration.
I will excuse Bush`s repeated attempts at not to resemble a monkey.
and so on.

“70% of Indians do not think badly of the US and 54% frankly think President Bush is doing the right things...this is grass roots too..that you coveniently forgot.”
I cannot stop laughing when people say 70% of Indians love the US. (or don’t think badly of the US)
I wanna find out how those 70% were reached to discuss that in the first place.
70% of Indians do not have phones, power lines, and highways.
How they came up with this sample? Did the rural India figure in this sampling? Is there any analysis of the polling? How that sample was arrived at? What education level respondent had? How many were familiar with the International politics? And lastly, how many in rural India even know who Bush is?
Finally, what were they asked?
I can understand that when someone says 70% of the URBAN Indians like the US. That is perfectly acceptable but 70% of ALL Indians like the US? That has to be a joke… 70% of the Indians living in rural Indian can’t even say America or Bush correctly.
In the rural India they don`t read papers, they don`t have TV and most of them don`t even have radios.

Promoters of hate from hindooland are in overdrive now. Bipolar factoid junkie with his cut & paste stuff is working overtime. Indians are finally showing their true color of hating all that is related to capital formation. Just look at the nonsense which was promoted for G.W. to make this fateful trip. He will return home disappointed. The poll takers gave false data to the White House with 70% people of India admiring US. Yeah, rite. So why do we see all these negative demonstrations? Well, this is what democracy is all about. Why did we not have demonstartion when KSA King was there a couple of weeks ago? Maybe the Indians love KSA King much more than these hate mongers led us to believe.
Or maybe KSA`s sugarcanes are much more juicier.

Can someone teach some basics of various survey methodologies to HP Sahib.
It was reported that 80% of women in Afghanistan suffered depression under the Taliban regime. How could that be possible to learn when they all wear Burkas? Hello.
Behram, because no one India gives a shyt about the King of Saudi Arabia. Would Pakistani hold demonstrations if King os Swaziland came to Islamabad?

``70% of Indians do not have phones, power lines, and highways. ``
Actually as many as 32 million mobile phone handsets were sold in India in 2005 , in addition to 5 million fixed line connection.
So there are today 80 million mobile phones and 55 million fixed line phones in India. A total of 135 million phone connections. Assuming each household with a phone connection has atleast 5 members , we can safely assume 135*5 = 675 million Indians or 63% of India`s population have a telephone or mobile phone at home.
If you dont believe me , go and ask the organisers of the `Indian Idol` contest - they regularly get 30-40 million votes via SMS each week....

Farzana,
You should be glad that you live in a country where you can get up in the morning and write this column without fear. Imagine if you lived in China or Saudi Arabia and were to write this column !!!
Having said that, here are some, hopefully, rebuttal points.
All that the PM said was be hospitable in the true Indian sense, as Bush in India is there as a leader of a another democracy ( I somehow cant seem to think of an Islamic country that has democracy, salim_chauhan, etc are welcome to help me recollect one).
You find time and valuable space in your article to `dump` on rthe rich NRI and the like, but like a true left leaning hypocrite shy away from criticisng the Left, whose kin are the majority in the lines outside the US Consulate for a visa. Same goes for all the Mullahs in Pakistan as well.
Again like a true hypocrite, you shy away from mentioning the benefits of the goodness that the USA sometimes brings to tbe table but are more than willing to partake of it
your use of the internet is one such example.
Again like typical left leaning hypocrites, you are critical of the rich and the NRI but you do not illustrate the hope and possible benefits that some of them have brought to the villages, yes villages in India.
I have not heard a peep out of you, whether on Rediff or on chowk, on how you have utlized your talents in driving just 50 KM out of Mumbai to teach in a village school, provide help to the destitute.
I guess it is okay to be fashionable left leaning liberal and write critical posts sitting in your air conditioned home/office and pontificate.
Loved your post thought . Keep it up

Versey is a typical Indian muslim. Anti-India. What else did you expect ?
Bush is a friend of India. So naturally these people will oppose him.

“If you dont believe me , go and ask the organisers of the `Indian Idol` contest - they regularly get 30-40 million votes via SMS each week....”
Gujju,
I actually watch the last ten fifteen minutes of the Indian idol! 30 or 40 million votes right!
They must be adding numbers from the American Idol where 30 million watch and they get 40 Million votes. You know that Indian Idol is not an original any way!
I can send unlimited SMS from my phone as long as I can pay…
Land lines and mobile lines overlap. A family of five could have -possibly- five cell and two land line. Every phone cannot be multiplied by 5...think of the offices and businesses and how many have multiple phone lines. So your numbers are not right...
You are a pretty sharp guy so don’t say things you can’t back up….

aww....the polls were biased..the people was biased..the climate was biased..the pollster was biased..
Reality is biased against Pakistan..
Most Americans Rate India Favorably, Pakistan Unfavorably
PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush left last night for a three day trip to India and Pakistan. A recent Gallup poll finds that most Americans say they have a favorable opinion of India, but most Americans view Pakistan unfavorably. Last year, the public`s ratings of both nations were more positive -- at the highest levels that Gallup has recorded. Now, ratings for both are down, back to where they were in 2004. Republicans are more inclined than Democrats to say they have a favorable opinion of both countries.
Views of Pakistan
While views of India have consistently been more positive than negative, the public`s views of Pakistan have been more negative. In the current poll, only 30% of Americans say they have a favorable opinion of Pakistan, while 59% have an unfavorable opinion.

Funny that pakis should be asking for numbers..
ADB says most FBS data unreliable
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Most economic data compiled by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) is not reliable and there is a need to make the data based on facts so that the future line of action could be drawn more realistically, said the Asian Development Bank (ADB) here on Monday.
``The economic data of FBS is, often, not based on facts. It is often contradicted by senior officers of the government,`` said ADB official Ghulam Qadir while replying to a question at a briefing in the presence of the ADB country director Peter L. Fedon.
He said the FBS had given data recently that had suggested that the country`s exports were growing by 28 percent. While the fact was that Pakistan`s exports were growing at around 13 percent in the first six months of the current financial year, he said.
Mr Qadir hoped that the government would take notice of this serious flaw and everything will be streamlined by December this year.
