There is no Ummah!
There are only people.
Some of them are animals - or ought to have been!
(Absolute morons!!!)
A few are humans - they speak out.
The rest are only sheep!
The real question ought to be not why some people practice this outrage (they are ignorant and not educated) - but why those of the more ``educated`` variety purposefully look the other way!!!
(Absolute chickens!!!)
It is difficult to decide which are the worse of the lot.

bj,
you are absolutely right - it is a shame that the ummites rush to defend the indefensible instead of simply saying, `` it was a barbaric practice, but people didn`t know any better then; we are much smarter now and should stop acting like a bunch of sheep herding bedouins``........ but no!...... instead they come up with silly innanities like ``circumcision of prepuce is done to prevent infection ``......... are they implying that al-lah and his prophet did not know of less painful methods of female hygiene - how about soap and water ?...... i am sure someone will now say, ``oh, but they hadn`t invented anti-bacterial soap at the time``........... holy cow !....... how do i convert to hindooism - i am desperate ! ....... but wait, you guys are worse, worshiping cows and burning perfectly good women and what not ......... dang!you simply can`t win for loosing !

we Muslims are such cruel crummy woman demeaning misogynist barbarian bastaards ..........and we rub a lot of our innate savagery on our prophet as well.....

JS clearly reminds us here that our world is still
populated by (many) barbarians.
Down with FGM.......
Now let us see massive protests on this issue in
``The Islamic World.``
Anyone holding their breath??????

Just reading this made me squirm in my seat, one can just imagine the pain that victims of this barbaric and inhuman practice undergo.

many of these barbaric practices are based on which ideas ? and the purpose ?
I agree that south asian communities have inherited many traditions, beliefs, practices etc from the past. we have to abandon these practices after scrutiny. incidently , women themselves are part of the problem !

Jawahara,
I read about female circumcision in model/survivor Waris Dirie`s book, Desset Flower. It was painful reading about it then. In the the opening paragraphs you have vivdly captured the trauma that a young girl goes through. It was painful reading about it again.

uba,
``I agree that south asian communities have inherited many traditions, beliefs, practices etc from the past.``
Don`t blame south asian tradition for female circumcision, that`s a north african-middle eastern practise and there`s nothing in south asian tradition about it.
