A confident, sharp and witty voice; an insight into a closed society and culture; a tale touching many lives, exposing follies and fears...and ending on a thoughtful note. A great read all the way.

Brilliant Adam ,
You are very promising; I can see sparkles of brilliants in you. I am from kerala, south of India, your characters are real and with little bit of cosmetic touch up, can be from any where in the sub continent and not just NWFP. Make sure you keep portraying them honestly but without reinforcing prejudices and stereotypes. I am impressed by your style of narration. Its time you start working on a full length novel .all the best.

This is the best article ever written in cyber world.

You have successfully incorporated influences of influential, traditions of traditionals and personal experiences of oppressed people into your work.

Congratulations!
For a well-rounded overview of native culture and it`s curses.

I haven`t read much of Manto (S H), but from whatever I have, this piece reminds me of his style.

Beautifully written, and just imagine, I would have missed it but for echoboom`s alerts on other threads. My thanks to you too, echoboom!

Thank god, there are still people like adamkhan around.

I grew up in Peshawar and know all of these characters. Jiyala was most probably my classmate at Edwards College. Good job Adam. The story is fictional but it reflects the real character of our society:

Dhoka rawa, faraib rawa, dushmani rawa
Hulchal rawa, fasaad rawa, sansani rawa
Insaan ka lahu pieo yeh izn-e-aam hey
Aur angoor ki sharaab ka pina haram hey

adamkhan:

This was a treat indeed. This is the kind of writing in the english language which should be part of our school curricula & not the westoxicated or farangi-infested ``literature`` which is posted here by the fat-laden behinds--a.k.a Ba ba Blacksheep.

Urstruly is another great story-teller. Read his stuff , if you have not already.

great job ADAM!
its a magnificent piece of work!
It is one of the few pieces that I could i feel i was experiencing myself. i came from a very similar place, but in punjab. Your article really paints the pictures, and shows the colors of a typical ``mohallah``
good job.. keep it up! good luck!

This is a masterpiece indeed! A splendid depiction of the prevailing soceity and its grotesque norms.
All the characters have been beautifully carved out and though some might seem redundant in the beginning, seem to build up well towards the end. It`s been a while since i read such a brilliantly executed piece of fresh prose.
Looking forward to read more from you.

PS. Can`t help agreeing with kaptain...constantly repeated same old political and diplomatic BS keeps adorning the `Main Page` on this website while such exquisite literary works are cast intto these inferior-looking sections hardly noticable when one visits the main page, unless he scrolls down. I find them really pointless and condescending for the writers.
