Why, Gita Roy, is it so hard for you to imagine, and accept, a woman as a 'person' capable of pursuing higher intellectual concerns?
And, pray, why is it wrong for her to want an intellectually stimulating and emotionally fulfilling relationship with a man, rather than a dominant/submissive one?
Open your eyes, Gita.

thought provoking and quite true and reflects the true anatomy and psychological philosophy of woman..which has been long suppressed by materialism and idealising professional goals which want her to step out of the house..her private vicinity and make her achieve by exposing her and colliding with the social fraternity.
But what about visionaries like Maleeha Lodhi who stand out for women and want these women to be emancipated..want them to desert their own houses to earn a paltry sum which no one is ready to pay.
Men want affection at the end of the day. When that is absent delinquency steps in. Crime prostitution steps in.
Anyways good read.

I guess I dont agree with Gita. Women were in a very bad state in the past especially before the industrial revolution. Their position in the society is improving with every passing day and all the credit goes to those people, both male and female, who have taken up their cause. No body should be domminent or submisive in human relations. It is all based on equality and fair play.

Excellent article. Many women have, somewhere along the line, forgotten that they are fundamentally different from men, and always will be. Any effort by feminists or governments to treat women and men as exactly the same is inherently unfair to women, as women being treated the same as man in every way is basically women conforming and adapting to a male-dominated system - and giving up their womanhood in the process.

Interesting.... A very fresh and novel approach to the topic... and that is not to say that i agree wholly with the author... though there are a fwe things where i couldn`t agree more
one thing`s for sure.... in a bid to become (equal to) men - not that they are any lesser - the women of today have definitely lost some of the feminism... this happens when these feminists blur the concept of gender-discrimination with gender-prejudice... there`s a fine line between the two.... one has to admit that both genders are indeed different, physically, mentally and to some extent socially
though i`m all for woman walking shoulder to shoulder with men in all walks of life, i`d want them to remain women...

If this elaborate yarn was spun to pull our collective male chauvinist legs, its even more juvenile than its conclusion .It doesnt read like a satire.

yeh sub panga Feminists or Feminazis nay dala hai.....
When women try to be men, then somthing will go awry.....and this is one of the side effects.

Hmmm, what does the author base her thesis that pre-industrial societies accorded a central position to women? If we go by what happens in rural areas of india, physical abuse of women is very common. It`s understandable that the author with a ken for a submissive role in a dom-sub relationship would not consider that a big deal but for most women it is. That`s why they are not buying your ``life was so beautiful before feminsim`` thesis.

Sorry Gita. I think I took your article to be serious (I did have doubts initially but didnt get the punchline). It seems I wasnt subtle enough to pick up the clues. My excuse is that nowadays you actually hear women - usually brainwashed muslim women who`ve attended to many Dars coming out with this sort of....worldview.

Misplacing your cell-phone is no joke. I misplaced mine, my dog found it and chewed it up and spat out part of it on the carpet , vomited on it, thereby destroying the carpet , the cell phone ..... I guess he found Nokia too unpalatable. I have a Motorola now. The dog says the software sucks.

From Ms. Roy`s ilog,
``If I ever forget my cell phone or otherwise fail to respect your authority, you have the right to require me to submit to a spanking that is so severe it makes me cry and scream and beg you to stop .......My spirits soar when my bottom`s sore.``
Now we know that this is all a joke.

Ms.Roy
I tried to read your ilog entries. It`s enough to put a stuka into a tail spin that it will never come out of. I`m trying to stay air-borne while below stalling speed.

You must read ``Conversations of cow`` by Suniti Namjoshi. An interesting book.
