Dear Aslam...whatever I remember of Dr Shipman was that he had an elaborate plan put
in place before he killed his patients. he was very charming with them and asked his
patients and their families to change their wills so that he could get a big chunk of their
inheritance. He earned lots and lots of pounds. If you ever read the classic book THE
MASK OF SANITY in which Dr Cleckley highlights that many psychopaths are doctors,
lawyers, engineers and politicians, very charming but very cunning with no conscience. Dr.
Shipley was one of them....committing cold blooded calculated murders for his ulterior
motives. It is more tragic when maseeha becomes a qatil....we used to read that in
classical Urdu poety...qatil maseeha....but in Dr Shipman`s case the metaphor sadly
became a concrete reality. Thanks for reminding that case.....sincerely sohail

Dear sajal....You have a special interest in criminology. If you read my article again I agree
with you that America has the highest rate of serial killers. I also agree with you that the
statistics in countries like Pakistan are not reliable. thanks for your interest...sincerely sohail

It is a good article though I feel your research is not so thorough. We cannot say definitely that there are more serial killers in Pakistan than America. The first thing a researcher learns is to collect data. I am afraid we do not have that for Pakistan. We do not know the actual number of rapes or killings as the investigation is shoddy and crimes are under reported or mis reported. Serial killers mean that there needs to be a estalished pattern of murders. We do not have that in Pakistan.
The biggest difference in my humle opinion is not that US produces more and Pakistan produces less but the plain fact that how much of it is getting reported and if reported then how accurately reported and investigated.

dr sohail sahib
i remember a case a few years back of a serial killer in uk, dr harold shipman, he allegedly murdered 250 of his patients mostly old women. he doesn`t fit any of your profile, he was married with children and quite respectable, we don`t know what his motive was, maybe he thought he was putting them out of their misery, or trying to save nhs money we shall never know, because he commited suicide in prison.
then there was another one yorkshire ripper he killed 13 women mostly prostitutes, he claimed he had heard god`s voice whilst working as a grave digger to kill these prostitutes.
these are two cases that happened in my area.

dear dost..mittar...the case of javed iqbal like many other serial killers is as clear as mud.
many of them do kill a few but claim more killings to became famous or infamous.
i interviewed abid hasan minto a well respected lawyer of lahore regarding javed iqbal.
that interview is part of my book THE MYTH OF TE CHOSEN ONE . minto sahib says that
there is no legal proof of 100 deaths and no proof that javed iqbal killed them. many
believe he might have killed a few but not 100. serial killers are successful in creating a
myth. sincerely sohail

Dear Dr. Sohail -
Please excuse me for straying off topic, but I have an urgent and important question. I have a very close friend on chowk, lets call him Mullah-A to protect his identity. Mullah-A is a serial liar and has recently been convicted in the court of chowk opinion. He insists he sees Mullahs even when they are not present. For example, at a recent pro-democracy rally in Lahore, even while there wasn`t a single Islamist supporter in the crowd, all he claimed to see were men in chadors wearing high shalwars, brushing their teeth with miswak and with long beards.
In addition to his schizophrenia, he has also developed some acute sexual disorder whereby he claims his reproductive organs are only turned on when he sees a bushy beard. He has replaced the poster of Rita Hayworth from his room with that of a self-doctored photograph of a Gandhi-like sparsely dressed Mullah Omar but only in a pink polka-dot speedo.
Dr. Sohail, could you please advice as to what remedies I could have this person take to become healthy again? Should I drop him off at a Taliban camp so he can fulfill his wanton desires?

Very insightful. I was hoping to learn a bit moe about Javed Iqbal as I remembered reading about his case when it happened. Did he really commit some of the murders or was he just seeking attention?
I have also noticed that, notwithstanding exceptions like the Kimveer Gill case in Montreal yesterday, serial murderers tend to be white caucasians and loners. It seems that they often give signs of their state of mind and if people around them were careful, many of the tragedies could have been avoided by paying attention to early signs.

Dear swarrier....serial killers are very intelligent and manipulative beings. They can play
games. They send false messages to police, correctional services and media. They keep
on confusing the communities. They always make choices and sometimes go to a different
community or hide for a while and wait till they can attack in an ambush....sincerely sohail

Thanks Dr. Sohail, I wanted a starting point to the profiling. Obviously behavioural scientists would pool in a large amount of data from previous experience etc. But I was wondering if you could provide some pointers from your experience. Remember in this case the killer is still at large. Another thing which I was interesting about the whole case was that the killing suddenly stopped.
Why would this happen? Why was the trigger mechanism deactivated? A simple solution is that the killer died undiscovered. Could it be that a serial killer can get sated with his/her deeds?

Pakihunk had posted a thread a few days back about our need to know if there were any convicted sex offenders in our neighborhoods. Of course ``sex offense`` is not the same as ``offensive sex``. The former is a crime, the later is a virtue.
Anyway, I would like to propose that we on chowk also require convicted liars to be registered as ``truth offenders``. There are several ways to go about it. The one I suggest is that each time they log in to chowk, their nicks are given a red color. This way when we see various postings on chowk, we would know which ones are from a convicted liar so we can shield our children from those posts.
This is the most urgent need of chowk today. We would not want a teen like TonkeePonkee to learn telling masterful lies from convicted liars. The next thing we know, she would be telling us that there was a cricket match between India and Pakistan but Indian team wasnt there.
Your urgent attention to this matter is required. We cannot trust our children to play around on chowk safely while convicted liars and their sleeper cells continue to live like ordinary people amongst us.
Regards
Atif

This guy Gill is one f***ed up macaca... This is what he wrote in his diary: `` Works sucks, school sucks, life sucks``... I mean - this guy probably has immigrant parents who have worked hard to give him everything: cars and all... and yet he says ``life sucks``...
All the young people from first world countries should be put into concentration camps every once in a while - so that they know how life actually sucks... these losers have everything and keep whining ``life sucks``... and killing other people because of it...

Dear swarrier...it is my understanding that when psychologists studied the personalities,
lifestyles and murders they found some common factors (although each case is unique in
some ways)
....they had psychopathic personalities...men with no conscience
...history of dysfunctional/abusive families
...traumatic life event
....feeling angry, bitter and resentful
....generalizing that hate towards a group,,,women, blacks, whites etc
....killing and abusing them...physically or sexually
this is my understanding.....your case if studied deeply might have some of these
characteristics...
sincerely sohail

Kimveer`s ( the Montreal serial? Killer) belief system:
``But to be more specific,`` he continues, he hates jocks, preps, country music, Hip Hop, ``bible-thumping know-it-alls,`` God and ``all those who oppose my rule.`` ..CTV news
So would he be called a free-thinker? an atheist? a humanist?
Would the westoxicated dUbba-peer care to comment?
P.S: Smiles & being goodie-goodie-two-shoes is the worst form of terrorism which muunafques resort to when confronted with brain-storming. Do do answer wht has you or your union done to prempt the kind of serial-killing advocated by Michael Coren? (#6: interact)
or are you in the business of monday morning quarter-backing only and get your welfare-cheque [Licensed-beggary ] and only analyse for purely intellectuial gratification.
P.S: Psychilists CAN be driven crazy, so this perpetual denial & this seemingly cal-demeanour of yours WILL blow up. A little release of the pressure-cooker goes a long way for mental health...even yours.
