I believe that’s because America and Israel’s position is that Hamas first must recognize Israel’s right to exist.
Hamas shall not accept Israel`s right to exist until the latter accepts a two-state solution with 1967 borders.

Okay.
Here is what i said:
``The problem is people in the middle east and pakistan dont want liberal-democracy. They`d rather vote for keeping the Hudood Ordinance intact than to repeal it. ``
There is a difference to what you say i am saying #224.

Salim, 272
Guru Arjun_macaca has not been banned. He is in Islamabad getting his Nishaan-e-Miquadi from Mushy for services rendered to Pakistan.
You are right, Salim. I don’t believe anyone has been “banned” from Chowk. Looks like it’s a result of Chowk’s FP clean-up act. Lately, Chowk has become more interesting that, barring one worm…I mean, the one who speaks from his a$$...:), now issues are being debated and personal abuse has declined quite a bit. It’s good sign.
getting his Nishaan-e-Miquadi from Mushy
LOL!

Re 273
From these two articles, how did you conclude that “people” of Pakistan do not want democracy and do not want Hadood Law to be repealed? (Remember, the operating word is “people.”)

(This is an aside. The disucssion here has gone in a different direction.)

the Americans and Israelis are not prepared to recognize (or deal with) democratically elected governments such as Hamas.
I believe that’s because America and Israel’s position is that Hamas first must recognize Israel’s right to exist.

What forum should be used to peacefully resolve disputes between Muslims and non-Muslim occupation forces?
The UN will not work because it`s dysfunctional and toothless. At best, it is a peace-keeper, not a peace-maker.
Bilateral negotiations will not work because non-Muslim states (esp. Israel) are unwilling to negotiate and Muslim states (esp. in Middle East) are being ruled by American puppets. Moreover, the Americans and Israelis are not prepared to recognize (or deal with) democratically elected governments such as Hamas.
Regional multilateral conferences (e.g Arab League, OIC) will also not work because none of these states have any leverage with Israel. Moreover, Israel enjoys absolute military superiority over these states and does not feel compelled to abide by any agreements signed with these govts.
This is not a problem that can be solved with diplomacy.

When you get a chance, read THE MODERATE MARTYR I provided in my post #241. You are right. Many liberals will have to die before the force of close-mindedness can be defeated. It`s a war within.

Urstruly #256 {``But there is an exception in case of Al-Qaida. Though it has its basis in Saudi Nationalism, its goals have risen above the territory of Saudi Arabia. This is purely an ideological movement which does not seek territory or the integrity of a territory (as compared to Hamas, Chechens, Hizbollah, Kashmiri freedom fighters, and other movements in Thailand, Philipine, or Kurdistan for that matter) but it seeks an idelogical unity that would transcend physical borders. Had West been fair and just to Muslim world the minor regional conflicts would have not mutated into a global movement of resistence.``}
Urstruly Sahib,
Poppycock! AlKayda has done much more harm to the independence, safety, security, and territory of Muslims than anyone since European colonialism, Mongol invasions, and marauding Crusaders.
On Sept 10, 2001, both Afghanistan and Eye Rack were independent of coalition forces and under the occupation of ``Muslim`` oppressors instead of foreign ones. Palestine, Lebanon, Kashmir, Mindanao, Chechnya, Dagestan, and Sinkiang liberation causes have all been dealt setbacks because of the stupid and nonsensical actions of AlKayda.
There were no conflicts going on in Waziristan - other than the normal blood-letting favorite pastime of internal and eternal intra-Pathan feuds. Instead of blaming Westerners for the sorry state of affairs in the Middle East, let`s muster the courage and accuse the really guilty parties - ``Muslim`` governments, Mullahs, AlKayda, and the 50 odd eunuchs that are collectively called the OIC.

History could have taken a different course if Barak and Arafat had accepted the 1996 deal broked by Bill Clinton at Camp David. Perhaps even 9/11 could have been delayed (if not prevented) had this deal not fallen through.
Arafat, Barak and Clinton lost at Camp David.
Hamas, Sharon and Cheney gained.
Which brings us to the larger questions:
Should incumbent powers accomodate the weaker party during negotiations?
Or should they dictate terms to the latter?
What qualities should a peace-maker possess especially in historical disputes like Middle-East?

A good and brave start in # 246. Eagerly awaiting your discussion of tactics.
Godot, HP, Ustaad Zeemax, hamidm2, and tahmed32 - they are the best of the human breed. If you can engage them, and discover a realistic possibility of/ path to success, the rest of us will learn a lot.

Thanks for putting the meat of real ideas on those speculations. The actual challenge, IMHO, is always about the possibility of practically making things happen under specific circumstances. Arguably, that`s where our intellectual abilities and our grasp of reality are put to the test.
