One can not but agree with the authors view about terrorism. In fact terrorism has no religion in particular and it is such a monster that it can not be defeated unless there is a joint effort from like minded people.

Kaal, I will try not to go into the philosophical aspects of this. I will only say that yes, you`re right. For a Muslim, Peace is to die in battle. For the former two, Peace is no battle. So where do these two concepts merge? Peace means something else to the former two that you mention, and quite another to the latter.

You would probably not agree with this view, but IMO, there are now only three major sources of ideas about human living - the American civilization, the Indian Civilization, and the Islamic Civilization. Of these three, the last is the most globally potent and the most internally coherent force against which the first two are like children standing before an adult.

In any case, the inherent value of peace is well understood by all civilizations and therein lies the problem ... peace in one`s own term. The clash of civilizations is just a quest for that. It is always the war to end all wars. One has to be realistic, as people actually are, and understand that there is no end to this. The question is: Given a war, whether or not one should participate in it and if so then how?

Meaning thereby, neither the Pope nor the Byzantine he quoted knew their ass from their elbow about what Islam really is. It is an esoteric concept with unparalleled and immense power from the elite down till the very grass roots. It has to be engaged, not confronted. Only then there`ll be peace.

When the entire Soviet Bloc threw away the concept of the ``Labour Theory of Value`` after shouting ``Capitalistic-Exploitation`` for 80 years we find the neo-Islamists reviving and mis-appropriating this concept for their purposes of incitement of the ummah.
I can only find hope when states like Pakistan stop funding and supporting these Islamists and when they start realizing that theocratics states built on the foundations of religious beliefs and books are perverse and un-viable. Only then would thse persons stop killing themselves and others for trying to achieve the illusory.

By the way, Human Development Foundation has an extremely poor rating given their figures, check Charity Navigator and other sites that analyze the numbers of non profits. Until they get their act straight, I do not recommend anyone giving anything to them.
