The fact of the matter is that the Pope told the truth, the absolute truth, the complete truth and nothing but the truth.

You Muslims cannot handle the truth.

[… I have participated in many rallies for freedom of expression, both in New York and Karachi. I will be happy to join anti-blasphemy rally or organize one if there is enough interest from folks in New York.]

Good for you, my dear! Then you are one of the good guys. Sorry if any of my words rubbed you the wrong way!

It is nice to “meet” you. Stay the course!

Bhala buraa, kaha sunaa muaaf karma, mere bhai! (And don`t worry, you are not ``alone``.)

Side note to Manto:

Dear Manto, perhaps the Honorable Congressman Edolphus Towns of New York may be interested in organizing a rally of the type Mr. Malick mentions – which would really help push the cause of a “liberal, progressive” Pakistan – in real terms.

What do you mean he is not interested? I thought he “cares” for the subcontinent and especially cares for the lot of Pakistanis – campaign donations or otherwise!

What do you mean YOU are not interested?!

Malick #16 {``Even if your assertion is correct that the Pope ``wanted to hop on the Dubya war wagon and drum up support for a modern Crusade,`` it is impossible to defend the violent reaction of some Muslims around the world. These type of controversies such as Pope`s comment and perviously the cartoons are designed to provoke a violent response from the Muslim world and each time Muslims walk right into the trap. ``}

Malick Sahib,
I couldn`t agree any more with you. Here is what I said on Patrick Masih`s forum about the topic:

Patrick,
Having voiced my opinion regarding the stupidity exhibited by Ratzinger Benedict Wolfgang the Turd or the Umpteenth, I must now turn my disgust at the howling, screaming, uncontrolled, and hysterical mullahs. Just as the thousands of right-wing fundo whacko Sunni Wahabbi fanatic terrorists do not represent the overwhelming majority of Muslims, these obviously ignorant and self-defeating inverted beavers don`t speak for the millions of Muslims who expressed their disappointment with silent processions, witty placards, and rational arguments. Unfortunately, the TV cameras focused on this bizarre and counter-productive circus of Muslim wrath. Seeing these ugly images of violence, arson, uncontrolled passion, and irrational behavior, made me think that an embarrassed Holy Prophet (PBUH) would have probably agreed with the stupid Pope - many Muslims are indeed irrational when it comes to their ``faith.``

Khan Sahab,
You are absolutely right! We should demand Pakistani media to provide platform to the secular voices. Believe me there are many, just without a platform.
Geo TV did a series of shows recently discussing Rape Laws in Pakistan and it motivated Musharaf government to at least introduce a bill to protect women from a discriminatory rape law. But under pressure from Mullahs, Pakistani government has shelved its effort.
It was a great example of a Pakistani media showing some strength. I hope we can count many more efforts in coming days.
Cheers,
Ibrahim Malick

Re: # 21

It is great to see the civil population striking against the mullahs and pandits in India. We have had a lots of public expose of these pandits and mullahs as well as bengali sufi tantrik babas on the TV. I would consider Pakistani moderates to have shown some guts when they are able to show such exposes on their TV networks of these mullahs in their true perverse forms. These ba$t@rd mullahs deserve full expose by the secular press, the TV and press needs to run stories on how these mullahs have made money in the name of Jehad and how they are into every possible corrupt practices, only then can we reach a stage when the gloss that these mullahs put on their activities gets rubbed off and they get exposed in their full perversity before the civil society- once the civil society understands the perversity of these charlatans Paksitan would produce enough of its own dynamics for the liberal democratic process to get initiated again.
I can see a great role of the press and TV in initiating this change!!!

Re: # 18
Khan Sahab,
There used to plenty of expose of Mullahs prior to Zia ul Haq`s martial law (1977-1988) in Pakistan. Even recently, Newsline (a monthly magazine from Pakistan) did an excellent story on maddarsahs and the role of Mullahs in economic exploitation of poor people. A good friend Amar Mahboob has written a great fiction on molestation of kids by Mullahs. You may want to google him.
I agree that these over-weight Mullhas should be put to task and made to do some physical labor (it will be good for them and society).
Regards,
Ibrahim Malick

{...Tolerance, may I remind my Muslim brethren, is the core virtue of Islam.}

It all comes down to core values which includes tolerance, sadly muslim intelligensia if that is the correct word to desrcibe them has abdicated all responsibilities to the extremist who are driving thought formation, debate and practices. Iam not sure whether simple reminders will work anymore. Well written article Malick sahib, dulha bahi touch was good but why be polite to these obscurantists when they will never extend the same courtesy to moderate muslims?

These Mullahs are the freaking chouts of this world......the pathetic creatures who deserve to be sent to confinement because they are sucking parasites who have NOOOOOOOO productivity in the modern economy except for trying to bomb the WTC and other centers of modern economy and trying to show off that they have a freaking divine right over the world.
These Mullahs are the SOBs of the worst order and their supporters like Asadi and HP equally deserve the same fate. They should be sent to prison and told to do hard physical labour in order to be productive in this world. The Iman of these rascals can be bought for as low as Rs 5,000 and they can decide on any religious issue at that price. I wonder why Pakistan has not done an expose like we have done in India on these mullahs.

It takes GUTS !!!!

Clerics issue fatwas for money
[ 17 Sep, 2006 2113hrs ISTPTI ]

RSS Feeds| SMS NEWS to 8888 for latest updates

NEW DELHI: A TV channel on Sunday aired purported footage of Muslim clerics in the national capital and Uttar Pradesh issuing fatwas for a payment, triggering condemnation of them by community leaders and protests in Meerut.

The clerics allegedly issued fatwas on a variety of subjects, including the use of credit cards and camera phones by Muslims, acting in films, and watching television, said the report on Star News that carried out a sting operation along with Cobrapost in Delhi and Meerut.

One of the clerics, Ahmed Nadir Al Qasmi, an official of Delhi-based Islamic Fiqh Academy, was shown allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 for issuing a fatwa. The footage also purportedly showed Maulana Imran, a cleric from Meerut, allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 for issuing five fatwas against the wearing of jeans by girls in Muslim-run institutes and the teaching of English in madarsas. ................

#16 Malick sahib,

[...the media`s protrayal of the matter gives the impression that the whole Muslim world is outraged. This misleads people into ... massively generalising that Muslims are somehow against free-speech. ]

That ought to bring massive relief to the likes of Salman Rushdie. At last his free-speech rights are respected.

So, are you going to lead that ``Anti Blasphemy Laws`` rally?

The darn medical company keeps misspelling relief!

Re: # 15

Chauhan Sahab,

Many thanks for your kind words.

Even if your assertion is correct that the Pope ``wanted to hop on the Dubya war wagon and drum up support for a modern Crusade,`` it is impossible to defend the violent reaction of some Muslims around the world. These type of controversies such as Pope`s comment and perviously the cartoons are designed to provoke a violent response from the Muslim world and each time Muslims walk right into the trap.

The vast majority of Muslims don`t take offence, but the media`s protrayal of the matter gives the impression that the whole Muslim world is outraged. This misleads people into making comments like those appearing here: massively generalising that Muslims are somehow against free-speech.

Cheers,
Ibrahim Malick

{``If you have married sisters, and brother-in-laws (dulha bhai, Jeiajee for Indians), you may appreciate how difficult it is when you have to walk on the proverbial egg shells all the time. ``}

Malick Sahib,
So, if in your analogy, the Mullahs are the Jijajees (Dullah Bhais), then is Islam our poor sister who has to suffer these prima donnas. To take it one step further, are these bearded ones screwing Islam? :)

Calling the Holy Father an idiot is one of the kindest word that one can use - the other being ``stupid.`` Being an educated man, well versed in politics and the inner power struggles of the Vatican, I doubt that this provocation of Benedict was anything other than deliberate. I think that he wanted to hop on the Dubya war wagon and drum up support for a modern Crusade. Taking a page from Pat Robertson`s book on how to increase membership, he wanted his anti-Islamic posture to reestablish Catholicism as the fortress against ``evil`` Islam.

Good article and a timely one regarding a current and hot topic. I agree with your characterization of the hated Mullahs. Thanks,

Re: # 13
Masadi, you make an excellent argument for people referring to Muslim as jokers. Nothing to do with Islam. Insensitive and racist bigots like you may think it is acceptable to denigrate a group (i.e., Mirasi) but raise hell when someone calls Muslims bigots and racially profiles them. Quite telling. What I am basically saying is (since you cant get the subliminal message) is that fix your own house (i.e., insecurities) before venturing out to worry about what others think of you.

Kulharee writes <<< Jiahil Masadi, Mirasi is derived from “Virsa” a Farsi term for Lineage. Mirasi community has had music as their Virsa or lineage for generations >>>

Haven`t I told you to stay away from my posts? If you can`t understand simple English, I suggest you quit your job, take a ``English as 2nd language`` class and read some sixth grade texts. I told you when I said Mirasi, I meant a particular concept involving argumentation methodology and NOTHING else. I was not talking about the origin of the word, who is described as such in traditional understanding or any such thing whatsoever.

Hamidm2, when you have nothing intelligent to say, nothing substantive to say, it is best to keep shut rather than reveal you ignorance. Some free, good advice for you
