Let me guess. Of all those Indians wanting to settle down in the Land of the Pure, not one is a Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Jew or Animist. They all know what fate awaits them if they live in Pakistan.

However, at least one person from Pakistan who wants to settle down in India, Nawab Din, seems to be of the Muslim persuasion.

Therein, dear Mullah, lies the difference.

And no, you cannot whitewash that difference out, no matter how hard you try.

Chachaji, the only one confused here is YOU. Like the French footballer Zidane, you headbutted into what was an innocuous remark about the right of return, which is reciprocal and cuts both ways. If Muslims were displaced from India, so were Hindus from Pakistan, no?

I for example hope to visit India sometime and check out some of the places I have read about.

It is amusing to see Pakis react the way they do, scoffing at any suggestion that there could be something wrong in their own backyard. Perhaps it stems out of a feeling of being superior to the lowly banias. Chachu perhaps is asking himself ``How could a proud Muslim want to disown his motherland to die on the land of the cunning banias?``

Arey Chachu, why are you getting so riled up? As per intelligence accounts, about 20-30 Paki fans who came to watch Pakistan play India during the last India-Pakistan Cricket series in India are yet to go back home. In my home city of Hyderabad, I personally have come across cases where Pakis visiting relatives have flatly refused to go back, even at the risk of arrest and forced deportation.

No one is breaking down the door to come settle in India from Pakistan. And in fact the flow to date has been the other way.

Sure..with the ever increasing flow of Jihadis crossing the LoC and those illegally staying back long after their visas have expired, one would have to concur with your impeccable opinion.

I don`t think that this is abt the resumption of India-Pakistan detente. It`s abt the story of an old man who was born in his Kashmiri kingdom under British India but migrated to the El Dorado of Indian Muslims. However he wud like to die in his ancestral village now. There`s nothing wrong abt it Dotty. Laws we make are based on our robust common sense.

Though I live in a far-off country and have travelled to many countries, my village haunts me. Though my village had no tall buildings, no nice roads, nor romantic promenades, the smell of the village, old aquintances, landmarks of my village comes to mind all the time. Even Bahadur Shah Zafar longed for his Dehli. Though he was a Badshah, he too was a human being. In fact his mortal remains must be brought to Dehli and buried in Lal Qila. This has a lot of sentimental value and priceless symbolism (though I dont believe in spirts and all that stuff). Btw, India`s maintaining the mazar of the Badshah at Rangoon to date.

The old centurion needs his ancestral village at this time of his life. Since Kashmir is an unsettled issue, living on any side of LoC shudn`t be a problme to the old man.

Hope people like Mr. Ahmed wud be less combative.

... i wonder why people indulge into things they know othing about...and are lazy enough not to research...

the correct verse is:

kitna hai bud naseeb Zafar dafn ke liye
do gaz zameen bhi na mili ku-e-yar meiN

..as dotty mentioned, states are afraid of setting a new precedence that can come back to haunt them later...therefore, the old man remains in the limbo he has been for so many years...sad but true.

#10 babaji is just being difficult. :-) But if someone wants to die in his place of birth - I think that shouldnt be a problem. The article does not say how babaji proposes to live in India - does he have relatives willing to take him in? or funds to live by himself?
