Dear Author,
Have you ever read any of Al-Jumi`s work or have you heard of him? If not then he was a famour persion philosopher. According to him in one of his book he stated that Nature is the replection of God`s power.He futher stated in his bookIn order to understand God we need to understand his power meanin my dear NATURE. There is divine motive in ever matter wheather you accept it or not. If you follow evolutionist(darwinist) ideas then you`ll end up with a BIG question mark``?``. According to your article Nature works independly to diving law. The question here is how????

Nature my dear itself is God`s power how can it work independly and how can it can be predicted but it can be observed and studied. Think again

Peace

For #9 below:

I made a mistake. Please read :

``````move on with your marry ways and do put 100 rupees in Jumma collection box. You will be happy, and off course Mullah will be extremely happy. ``````
Thank you.
Two suggestions for the ``enlightened`` scientific community of Pakistan!
1. Just let Mullah say what he wants to say. Don`t use his utterances in your dissertation or your future planning.
2. Ditch any ``risala`` or tabloid called ``Islam and Science`` as it contains no value for your dissertation or your scientific analysis.
Any religion be it Islam or Christianity or Hinduism is snapshot of people and cultures that existed 1,000s of years ago. Just treat them as you would treat things in a museum; with care; with reverence; with caution; as they are fragile pieces of historical records. These religious symbols provide us a glimpse of our forefathers. They are important for saving traditions without whom we would simply be collection of chips and microprocessors and no humanity at all.
So please don`t be angry at religion. Just give it due place in your life (and not ``overdue`` place), and move on with your marry ways and do put 100 rupees not in Jumma collection box. You will be happy, and off course Mullah will be extremely happy.
Keeping religion and acts of nature aside,God also gave us wisdom and brains to think and act for our benefit.In case of recent earthquake in Pakistan it was the rubble that was responsible for most of the deaths not the quake itself directly.And it seems that we haven`t learned from our mistakes and are following the same dangerous practices of using bricks,blocks and heavy stones in construction.The establishment of new earthquake sciences departments in the quake affected areas is a good step by the government.They should spearhead the use of modern construction practices using lighter and stronger materials, structure and fatigue analysis using shake tables and other vibration analysis tools and informing the users about safe design practices in construction of homes and buildings.Please! please! please! get out of this stoneage and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
The author fails to take the next logical step and ask the more interesting question i.e. what role does the divine play in natural affairs?
Does he agree with the mathematician Laplace`s famous ``I have no need for that hypotheseis`` statement?
Yes, the divine does nothing.......
Yet....the divine lives within the people who predict....
Its called Being Human and having the divine spark animate us....
otherwise we are just glorified carbon molecules.....
Oh get a clue....please
what an utterly ridiculous article.......and what a totally ludicrous premise....
Go read some philosophy
Aristotilian perhaps.......
Read Anthony M. ALioto`s, A History of Western Science.....
Things just dont happen for a reason.......
our electrons and neutrons set things in motion tempered by frenzied motion.....
what is here is neither here nor there.....
yet the earth is like an electron circling around a nucleus.............always in motion..neither here nor there, in a dimension less space...........
Is this called Metaphysics...
Read some please...
and the cardinal directions please and the points of origin theory.....and the destination theory.....
HELLO DUH>>>>>>
Salman :
You say,``...Today, astronomers can predict eclipses with high precision for thousands of years. One day we will be able to do the same for earthquakes...``
I agree with you with most of your observations in your article. What dismays me is why even now Muslims are so hung up on sighting the moon during their holy month to begin fasting. If I recall correctly, Bangla Desh wanted to send an aircraft to a very high altitude to sight the moon.How absurd. Faith is very important for humanity but one can always use a liberal dosage of knowledge from science to dispel our ignorance.
Now regarding Islamic enlightenment! What are urgently needed to day are reforms in Muslim world and not enlightenment. Even if a divine hand were to intervene and a dawn of enlightenment were to appear, I believe that it may take centuries before an genuine era of enlightenment will appear in Muslim world!
It is a pity that the high noon of Islamic civilization has disappeared long time ago mostly by its rigidity of thoughts of its own people. Then why cry? Civilizations reise into prominence and fade away. Islam is no different!
It is not like setting up like factory for franchised goods!
Great article. As for your final question: ``Will we see a similar shift in Muslim thinking around the world or did the Earth move too soon for an Islamic enlightenment?``, I think the answer is:
Zameen Joombad
Na Joombad Gul Muhammed
i.e., the earth itself may shake, but Gul Muhammed is unshakeable (in his misguided beliefs and negative attitudes). :-)
The author writes <<< Will we see a similar shift in Muslim thinking around the world or did the Earth move too soon for an Islamic enlightenment? >>>
Salman Mian, don`t be so disingenuous, the ``enlightenment`` came to Muslim societies long before the European renaissance. What the world`s problem is dogmatism, whether it be religious (as in the case of the creationists) or scientific (as in the case of the die hard Darwinians). When a dogma guides thought, instead of the thought guiding what becomes accepted, it leads to BS always regardless of label.
There are no natural explanations for the Big Bang, all your ``natural laws`` break down at the earliest point of creation, further there are no natural explanations for how these laws came to be in the first place, they are not as benign as you make them out to be, for example the ``laws of evolution`` to operate require an order and entities governed by that order. The mix of the constants required to come up with a habitable universe had odds that totally belie chance or ``benign-ness``, you should know that yet you are writing as a mullah dogmatist. At the Quantum level consciousness plays an important role, probability or what you might say `chance` guides the course- this leave a lot of space for the divine to act in a most ``natural`` manner. Why do you ignore this? Be honest when you know better. The days of the mechanical clock based science have long passed, don’t try to resurrect them 300 years too late like Hoodbuoy.
