I agree this pissing match is really unbecoming!

Dost Mittar,
I know what he did BUT he`d mention the figures as GDP. Perhaps he dont know the diff!
Even if u take Per capita Incomes.
Pl refer to source i.e World Bank:
http://siteresources.worldbank.org/DATASTATISTICS/Resources/GNIPC.pdf
PER CAPITA INCOME AS PER DOLLAR TERMS:
China`s Rank : 128 with $ 1740
India at 159 with $ 720
AND ur Pakistan at 171 with $ 690
PER CAPITA INCOME AS PER PPP TERMS:
China is at 107 with $ 6,600
India is at 144 with $ 3,460
AND Grrrrreat Pakistan at 158 with $ 2,350
BETTER THROW UR DEGREES FROM IMPERIAL COLLEGE AND RUTGERS IN THAMES AND RAVI RIVERS RESPECTIVELY.
Pl know ur place and be urselves.
Though it`d sound like two/three beggers quarelling, if we take the base mentality of our friend and professional liar, India`s is ahead of Pakistan on this count. He`s as usual lied. Plain and simple.

VRV#313:
You are comparing apples and peanuts; Manto posted figures for per capita while you posted total GDPs, which are really not not comparable from one country to another.
Re. figures, I have said it before, based purely on observation, that the standard of living in Pakistan, especially cities, is better than that in India. One can simply notice that Pakistanis appear to be better fed and clothed than their Indian counterparts and have fewer ghastly slums, their kuttchi abaadis have better facilities than the Indian jhoppar-pattis.
But these figures, including Manto`s, have to be taken with a grain of salt. Think for a moment - three-four years ago, Indian per capita income was higher than Pakistan`s; during these years, the two countries` GDPs have grown at approximately the same rate and the population growth has been higher in Pakistan than in India, so the relative position of India should have improved, instead of deteriorating. So, what gives? The reason, I think, is that Manto (as well as your) figures are in nominal dollars and therein lies the rub. Pakistani rupee has risen relative to the Indian rupee during this period, despite the fact that inflation is running somewhat higher in Pakistan. So, nominal dollars show relative improvement in Pakistan; I suspect that the situation would be different if purchasing power parity were used.

Yasser, thanks for posting the GDP per capita listings. it was a real eye-opener. i knew india and pakistan were poor--i didn`t think they were THAT poor.
notice the top 20 are dominated by Europe--with the exception of japan and the USA.
luxembourg--omg!
***
in all seriousness, pace my earlier barbs, and this applies to both india and pakistan equally, surely with so much poverty in both countries the first priority for the govts should be to alleviate poverty and improve the lot of the common man instead of dreaming of international glory and so forth and pretending they are superpowers (india) or being involved in costly arms races with each other and thus wasting billions which could be used to help alleviate this shameful level of poverty.

yeh, panditji nehru used to polish my knob at harrow before he graduated to being sodomised
by lord mountbatten. but you indians have a history of bending over for invaders to get shafted so it doesn`t surprise me.

true, i don`t know too much about modern india--but i am not losing much sleep over it.
the GDP per capita figures for india and pakistan are shameful--this in the 21st century! i really dont understand why people from both countries spend so much time bragging about how great their countries are when they are so underdeveloped that countries like sudan and the ivory coast and mongolia are richer than them per capita!
la`anat hai.

the GDP per capita figures for india and pakistan are shameful--this in the 21st century! i really dont understand why people from both countries spend so much time bragging about how great their countries are when they are so underdeveloped that countries like sudan and the ivory coast and mongolia are richer than them per capita!
la`anat hai.

btw, don`t knock English public schools...they`re one of the few remaining things England has to be proud of.
I am sure your long and intimate service as a fa g-boy provides you with a perspective of the british public school system that I do not posess.
After all, all the best schools in Indo-Pak are second-rate copies of them. N`est pas
Look at all the people celebrated in India today, from the Narayan Murthy`s to the Tendulkar`s you wont sind a since Doon School or Daly college grad among them. Naqshi-baby what you know about India today would not flll the back of a postage stamp.

Despite the fact that the Mughal Empire at the time of Bahadur Shah Zafar was virtually non-existent and didn`t rule outside of the Darbar, it still says a lot about the Mughal System itself that even on its last legs it produced artists of the calibre of Mir, Ghalib, Zauq,
and so on, not to mention the great ulama of that time...

You know, I sometimes do think what it would`ve been like to have been a nawab in 19th century Hindustan (never India--when was the word `India` used to describe what is now the country of India and who was it by?) but, then again, I`m also quite happy now thank you very much.
