The penetration of Islam into a non-Islamic society happens due to two reasons - outright military defeat and/or the lack of depth and commitment to existing social order. If we look at Pakistan or Iran for example, there was outright military defeat plus massive violence on the local people including destruction of temples, killing of adult males, rape/plunder etc. In addition, the local people people had loose commitment to existing faith. Iranians were not too committed to Zorastrianism, while Pakistanis had already flirted with Buddhism and had low interest in sanatan dharma. Therefore, there were mass conversions. Bangladesh and far-eastern countries like Indonesia or Malaysia are examples where there was no military conquest but rather the people had low commitment to earlier religion. Bottom line, Islam abhors vaccum.

The way to fight off Islam is therefore not just in having military strength, which is necessary but not sufficient. It is also important to shore up existing religious and social systems so that the masses are committed to the existing order. That means eradicating caste in hinduism and building an egalitarian society in India. The west is flirting too much with homosexuality, gay marriage while undermining traditional marriage through live-in relationships, which can drastically disturb social order and create a vaccum for people to turn to Islam. We see some of that happening in Europe which is very scary.

You know how they say that a picture can be worth a thousand words. The ``sharp Edge Theory`` explains it so succintly.
