This menatlity is driven by only one thing and that is a sense of acute inferiority complex. Education alone cannot help overcome this mentality unless education itself is butteressed by an ideology. The only thing that raises human beings from the level of a biological organism is the ideology.

This is a delicate point to understand. Look, if the purpose of education is to make money or live a comfortable life alone then I am sorry to say that even an amoeba wants to live a comfortable life; it swims to the shade when exposed to light and heat. On the other hand an ideology gives human beings a sense of purpose and adds meaning to life. It is the ideology that gets human beings out of the comfort zone and props him to explore heavens and earth. That is the reason, the children as young as of fifth grade, in West are taught principles of free market economy and Capitalism. Capitalism originated in West and it has become their way of life- the very ideology that they live by. This ideology gives them their ethics, their values, and a purpose to live by.

In comparison, (to West and Muslims), Hindus have no ideology, and they have nothing to offer to the world. I think Deepak Chopra is the best they can do, and every one knows what a chutya charlatn he is. In other words, Hindus have a political and economic system that was borrowed from west - be it socialism of yester years or capitalism of now and they have an education system that was forced upon them by their colonial masters. The best this education system can do is to produce vocational workers.

while not wishing to interfere in this behram-hindu lovefest, l should note that to accuse behram of being a freeloader because he registered his company as a minority business makes no sense either. I think it is merely an attempt to get back to behram for writing his put-downs of hindus (which are no different than the crap that arjun and co. write on chowk, which the same hindus celebrate).

What I have been arguing for below is the one`s prime focus should be on the substance and not on the loopholes. Mere registration as a minority business company does not indicate that the prime focus is on loopholes rather than on the substance.

OK, I waited this long so that evidence should present itself. I present to you this thread as Exhibit A, to show as to what is wrong with Indian education system. Look at the Indians here and see what this education system has turned them into. That is the sole reason that we should avoid Indian scholarships or Indian education at all, like a plague.

This should prove that this assessment of Indian education system has nothing to do with prejudice or nationalism; it has everything to do with the sample that it produces. As the proverb goes, one doesn`t have to eat the whole cauldron of rice to check the taste, only a sample is enough; and boy! it tastes like shyt.

That is indeed despicable. On the other hand, maybe they are doing a favor to the quota candidate. If he is not competitve enough, he may not be able to survive the rough, grueling dog eat dog world of business at the executive level and get fired. He might be better off in a government job or a public sector job.

However, I tend to agree with anil`s stand on this... if you have an easy out which you refuse to use, you are doing yourself a great injustice. nowhere in any (Indian) legislation does it say that reservations must necessarily go to the needy alone. Indeed, our esteemed lawmakers are in a desperate hurry to get the legislation through without the creamy layer exclusion, because they know that could cause them major problems in the next elections. And never mind what the Supreme Court says...

I think that`s just digusting, if it`s true- if I am a reserved category student, I have as much right, by law, to be there as any other student. You have no right to judge me on anything but my credentials- my academic records, how I present myself and my suitability for the job. Otherwise you are not promoting meritocracy but punishing it.

It`s this attitude of shoot-the-messenger that I am uncomfortable with. I don`t pretend to be a big psychoanalyst because I`m least qualified to do it. But I reserve my venom for the lawmakers instead of the people who benefit from the law.
