Why is the Government Dithering When it Should Stand Firm?

I can answer this in one sentence: When Pakistan will begin doing enough in the war against the terra, the war which is supposed to last for decades (read Bushy and Cheney various statements) would end right away.

Since you don’t appear to be bright enough to catch this in one sentence, I would add another: Pakistan is doing just enough to keep the war against terra going, ensuring that first, it should last for decades and if not, then at least till 20th January 2009.

Let me explain it even more so that you stop writing articles like this for good.

There are three centers of terra in the world: Iraq, Afghanistan and northern areas of Pakistan. Do you expect any US think tank or the US congress or the US administration to say that the US is not doing enough in the war against terra? For crying out loud, they got US army, NATO Army and a host of other White armies working hard to eliminate terra in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now who is left to point fingers at: A non White country and a non white Army which obviously can never do enough because first, it is not white thus making it inferior and second, it is the only Non white army involved in the war against terra so it will never do enough no mater how hard it tries. The inferior genes of the non Whites in the world preclude them for doing things right until the Whiteman supervises, teaches and goads them to do the right thing.

This sound like a harsh statement but the point remains until Pakistan start killing people like the US army is doing in Iraq or even in Afghanistan some idiots in think tanks in the US would continue to say that Pakistan is not doing enough. That is how they maintain and keep the war on Terra going.

Has it ever occurred to that Mush and the Pakistan army are perhaps doing what they are asked do, nothing more or nothing less, to maintain the war against terra and are being rewarded for their complicity in heinous crimes against Pakistan?

Now, they have another horse or ghorRi ready to help Mush out and present another liberal face of Pakistan politics to start doing enough in the war against terra for couple of years and then new ghorRi or Ghadi and whatever you call her will again be discarded for not doing enough in the war against Terra. What a charade!

Poor Pakistan will continue to pay a price and continue to deal with haramkhor maulvi and his minions until the war on terra ends in decades.

And although I think Altaf Bhai is a real arse$ole, he did the right thing this time. He said what was right. So hat off to him for a brief moment.

The government is really playing with fire here, and idiots like the PM making statements that basically say that he has agreed to all points (including enforcement of sharia) are downright moronic. It is a shame that we have real idiots in the government. Pakistan is going nowhere fast with this group of morons at the helm.

Before you two start another free for all battle of posts, I think we have blamed each other enough.

Let`s try a different tact, how about let us stop taking about white man, brown man, muslim, hindu, indian, paki, etc...and let us consider that we are talking about and with humans.

So although, personally, I am often offended by the hatred spewed by arjun, I am also offended by the anti-indian anti-hindu hatred spewed by some of the pakistani`s. Why? Because this type of hatred does not recognize the other person as a human.

Let us recognize humanity in each other first, and work from there.

Firstly the govt unfortunately can not take unrealistic stands when 70% of the country is functionally illiterate and maybe more than that are either actively or passively complicit in the molanization of pakistan. This secular elitist attitude of yours (which I support 100% BTW) is just not catching on in dera ismail khan anytime soon.
To the idiots who think people are only ``true`` secularists if they are white, thats a meaningless attempted insult to all brown people and millions of secular brown muslims, and it stems from inferiority complexes which you should just get the f. over.
Thank God for karachi where the secular moderate MQM can whoop unbelievable a$$, thats the only reason why karachiites can come out against extremism. Whats the diff btw Karachi and every other place in Pakistan? literacy. economy. Those are the things we need to target. And one day we wont have to fight so hard in the name of reason.
As for the global war on ``terror`` or whatever, its clearly got many faces one of which is s genuine desire to end terrorism which is not achievable through military means. The other faces are oil .power. racism. and fear.
We are the only muslim country who is nuclear. We are the country where AQ is hiding. We prob have more taliban contacts than most afghani`s. And we are non whites. And yet we were not attacked. What dont people understand about the govt`s policies? We are not being attacked people, thats a real friggin victory, ask the ``govts`` of Iraq and afghanistan if they have any regrets about the way they played their hands.
Lastly its a pity that many innocent people religious or otherwise are dying in the Northwest and i understand their anger at the govt, but believe me if we hadnt ``cooperated`` we would have had one big crater in the ground where NWFP/Baluchistan used to be.
Its not fair and its not easy but through all this we need to keep our eye on the ball...education.social justice. untill a society has that they have nothing. When they have that everything else is easy.

My question to you is: would you prefer the government to respond in the similar vain? If a group of people has decided to test the boundaries of the law, is it incumbent upon the government to respond by breaking the law? Granted that the mullah in Islamabad has taken over some property illegally, do you wish the government to not follow the law to retake that land? The response to an act of lawlessness is not to perpetuate that even further. The government has to go to the courts and follow the laws. It is a time consuming process but that is how a government needs to respond.

The government is wrong in negotiating with them, I will grant you that. The right approach for the government would have been to move the courts and get an injection against the unlawful possession.

That is the problem in Pakistan. People talk about democracy and the rule of law and the implementation of the constitution but when the time comes to show the restraints, they prefer the army action like the author wrote here, “Why do we need to negotiate with people who encroach on public land, kidnap public officials and challenge the writ of the state?”

You want an army action against the girls and the other poor uneducated lot that do not understand what they are made to do.

From a political point of view, I agree that what mullah is demanding in Islamabad is not only unlawful but also challenges the basic human rights. However, you don’t support any human rights when you want government to attack the Lal Masjid or the Hafsa girls.

I think the government response in this matter has been appropriate but I also feel that that they were forced to adopt this approach. Their first instinct probably was what you are suggesting, i.e., don’t negotiate send the army; but they held back and in the end holding back showed to the people of Pakistan that mullah is wrong and for the first time in Pakistan a political party got a chance to stand up against the mullah. That has helped many other genuine groups to protest the mullah and now clearly mullah is defending instead of being aggressive.

You see political and civil actions turn the tide, military actions and your approach of not negotiating does not help.

Mr. Kamal is asking for writ of the govt from those people who dismissed the elected govt & challenge the writ of the elected PM.

People like Kamal are interested in bloodshed in Jamia Hafsa, thet are looking forward another ``Golden Templae`` where these ``worried people`` were vanished when American forces killed the innocent children in Bajore.

masadi, first let me say that you express your stance eloquoently. It is true that the powerful western nations have exploited and pillaged countries in the east, and then claim moral superiority. It is true that ``amreeka`` committed a heinous crime in the form of nagasaki and hiroshima and had the gall to defend it as a good act. I get that.

However, if we start engaging each other not at the religion, or national level, but at a human to human level, I think we can make things right.

Dear cliftonbridge, one does not really need a high literacy rate to communicate to the population common-sense ideas! Sometimes, too much education actually gets in the way by providing a way to rationalize what common-sense alone would never permit!

Don’t be mad at HP, he is not the ``idiot`` that you called him – he just likes to needle people. (If he had stayed in Pakistan, he may have turned into a Bhutto or something – hopefully with not the same fate!)

Of course but before that can happen you need a form of ``human consciousness``, which the institutions of the West are designed to prevent. That is why you`ll notice that my outrage is at the Western elite particularly the US elite and not the masses that are victims of the system. The institutions surrounded by which and in which your life is lived are the ones that are producing bigotry, you can try to fix it at the individual level but everytime you cure one person of this ``disease``, the system would have produced a thousand more.
