Musharraf and Pakistan: A Message for the Secretary General of the Commonwealth

Where is Musharraf on the international scene??? America “loves him” because he has no political strength (he is a pushover). India “loves him” because he let them build a fence in an intern disputed area without even bating an eyelid. Have they ever had it so easy?

He is the perfect cocktail for America-India nexus. The moves afoot on the recent America-India nuclear ‘cooperation’ deal are testimony to this. They know that Musharraf can do nothing except suck it up. If he were to protest whatsoever, America would go back into calling him a pariah dictator (as pre 9/11). This is the problem with leaders that lack electoral credentials or legitimacy. They can so easily be blackmailed.

It is precisely blackmailing that has led Musharraf to jettison principled UN resolutions (including a a plebiscite in Kashmir). It is precisely this sort of blackmailing that has made him “shoot from hip” gibberish ideas on Kashmir. And he is doing all the talking. Nobody is listening to him. Nobody needs to take him seriously. Why should they? There is a history to this. You can easily extrapolate a correlation with Military juntas and spineless diplomacy, e.g. Ayub agreeing that Kashmir is “a bilateral” issue (and with it sidelining the ‘multilateral’ UN resolutions), Zia selling Pakistan wholesale to the CIA to organise “a jihad” against the Soviets, etc., etc.

Yes, the West “loves” Musharraf and will back him to the hilt. He maybe an ass but he is their ass at least at present.

Another typical pathetic pakistani's article. After so many years of blaming the foreign powers from the bomb to the jihadis, here is another article requesting salvation by the interference by foreigners. Why cant the pakistanis take responsibility for the mess they are in. It is time that they do something them selves instead of blaming the outsiders and even the dead pakistanis.

Zia is responsible for the islamisation, Gandhi is responsible for the partition, bhotto is responsible for corruption , the list go on.

Why cant a single pakistani do something, a simple act in defiance.

Write a series of articles on science in honour of abdus salam. Is it too hard or what.

Masadi Sahib #5 {"Not too different from the US talking the "democracy" talk and walking with the dictators and the mullahs.."}

Masadi Sahib,
I have noticed that the talk of brining "democracy" has been consistently dampened by the results in Palestine and Turkey. I am so confused by the top reasons for going to war in Eye Rack:

Weapons of Mass Destruction
Retaliation against terrorist act on 9/11/01
Bringing democracy to freedom-loving Eye Rackis
Removal of a terrible dictator
Oil
Helping Israel
Helping our friends
Helping ourselves.

SC writes in his ilog “I am amazed by the quality of our leaders, past and present. They are never wrong and always have solid rationales for their actions - not to mention 4th and 5th level contingency planning.”

Not too different from the US talking the "democracy" talk and walking with the dictators and the mullahs...this merely reflects that our "leaders" have been socialized well into their status position by the US elite...

Shaiksh Sahib,
Good article and very timely. I am more and more impressed by all our leaders and ex-leaders.

I am amazed by the quality of our leaders, past and present. They are never wrong and always have solid rationales for their actions - not to mention 4th and 5th level contingency planning. Just examine:

Mushy Mushy Mush Mush:

"This coup is temporary. I will restore democratic rule very quickly."

"I will not take off my uniform."

"I will take off my uniform if I win." Who does he think he is - A US female soccer star?

"Maybe my wife can run for President or even for CoS - she knows how to be on top."

"Bezamir Bhutni is a corrupt person."

"Benazir Bhutto can be my PM if she makes me win the Presidency with my uniform on."

"Nawaz Sharif signed a 10 year disappearing act and now wants to come back - is there no honor left in Pakistan?"

Bezamir Bhutni:

"I want to save my country from poverty, chaos, and corruption - The name of my country is UK of Switzerland."

"Even though I am a Paki, I did not have any relations with my cousin, Rajiv Ghandi."

"I am against the Tally Ban - an organization that was formed during my reign."

Nawaz Sharif:

"I love doing Umras ten times a week - but I do miss Hira Mandi."

"I want to come back after only 8 years of my promised 10 year exile, because according to Kulsum I have always been premature."

"No, I did not get a hair transplant. I just have my head up my ass."

Fazlu

"Mushy is a kaffir, a dictator, and a sell-out to the American oppressors. I will bring him down unless he agrees to work with the MMA."

"A woman cannot be head of Pakistan without an education, that's why we are totally against female education."

"Osama is not hiding in Waziristan. He is actually hiding in my beard, which is mostly in Peshawar and Islamabad - depending on where I am."

Dear Author,
I heard Justice(r) Wajihuddin Ahmed mention on Aaj TV that Mr. McKinnon certified the Pakistan Election commission as independent after holding a single meeting meeting with them. Don't count on the West to stand up for the sentiment of the ordinary Pakistani.

That you have to write a letter addressed to the SG of the Commonwealth speaks volumes for our weakness; and, in the end, it is our weakness that condemns us our fate.

Author,

Commonwealth was good only for imposing sanctions on Mugabe for the same violations because he wasn't fighting the war on 'terra. As for musharraf? Forget it ... :)
