"because paki nukes may not last long..."
Pandit Nehru predicted Pakistan wouldn't last long than 10 years. Turns out Pakistan is now so strong, India needs American help to persuade Pakistan to not fire across LoC.
You are not using Pandit ji's crystal ball, are you?

excellency,
.... musharraf's election is a foregone conclusion and there is nothing that the ragtag opposition can do about it ..... for weeks sher afghan and others have been saying that according to the constitution the provincial assemblies are not required for presidential elections ..... and as an immoral people nobody relly cares about 'moral' legitimacy - it is pure bs!
.... the only question left is if the cattle thieves of gujrat will let bb become pm ......
p.s. to be honest, i am a little tickled by the mullah's discomfort! ... as long as those bastards are being squeezed, i am happy ..... sometimes it is okay to cut off your nose to spite your face ......

re: HP
"I don’t know how you could say that Pakistani will accept him as President without the wardi."
FYI, PPP will accept Mushy as pres without wardi. PML-Q will accept him anyway. And these two parties do represent 60% of public opinion in Pakistan.

zee dude
You are a little too much in love with the islamic bum... a little too much of nukephilia, if you ask him... because paki nukes may not last long...
With mushy boy back in power for next 5 years, you never know... he sells you pakis 40 millions a piece to uncle sam - he can sell anything if the price is right... [even his mother, he is a mohajir, right :)]... BB has already said she will hand over AQ khan... so in next 5 years, chances are, the bomb will be gone...
if you need a cure from nukephilia - call me - 1800 DR MOHAR... :)

mohar/arjun,
..... sorry .... arjun has been a good ally in my jihad against the jihadis and i shouldn't have turned on him - i blame it on the soda in the vodka (i gave up tonic for ramadhan) ......
....... also i am a little disappointed in the supreme court's decision even though it was very predicatable if you had been following the legal arguments ....... so nw we are stuck with mr musharraf for the next five years ......regardless of what the genius romair says, he will doff his uniform in the next few weeks and try to figure out how to bring bb into his power sharing scam .... his only problem are the cattle thieves of gujrat - they will do everything they can to hang on to their booty ......
arjun mian, all your sins will be forgiven if you can post a picture of romair in his famous t-shirt .......

Hey, if we wanted to we could have over run your land in 1971- thanks to the wisdom of leaders who understand Quran- it is better to leave all of you together in your piece of land to kill each to please that blood thirsty deity called Allah.

The SC judgement may be politically incorrect, but it is in accordance with the constitution. Judges can't change the constitution. That's the parliament's job.
Now the action shifts to NWFP. Likely scenario...
MMA resigns its seats and CM Akram Durrani advises Governor Orakzai (Mushy's man) to dissolve NWFP assembly. Orakzai delays dissolution by a week to allow Mushy to "horse trade" some of the MMA MPAs. In the meantime, Law Minister Sher Afgan finds a way to hold Presidential election without NWFP assembly. Mullahs launch a movement across NWFP in tandem with PML-N/Imran Khan movement in Punjab (which fizzles out). Mushy manages to win presidential election on October 6th.

quite a strange and interesting decision by the supreme court........
....the amount of pressure on the supreme court, this time around, was quite a bit less than the pressure on them when they restored the cj.......so one would have to think, they looked at some legal angle, while giving this decision......
a lawyer's view would be helpful, if there are any on this site....
.........it is actually the job of the assembly to legislate......the courts just interpret the legislation........if the assembly legislates that a person can be president for life, the courts have to uphold this legislation, even if it is ridiculous....unless it violates the constitution.......however, if the assembly amends the constitution, then the courts have no choice left.....
.......so now it is upto the assembly to decide on musharraf.....they are the ones who legalized his rule......in a sense, the courts seem to be saying that it is not their job to do what the assembly should be doing......they have given the responsibility of keeping or removing musharraf back to where it should be, i.e. assembly......
.......so what will the assembly do?........if it sides with musharraf, then the resopnsibility will go back to the people to get rid of the assembly, in the next elections......or get rid of musharraf, through street protests......
however, musharraf can manipulate the elections, to get his own people elected again.......i suppose he can even remain the coas, for the next five years (legally in this case), unless the assembly kicks him out.......
so we are back to square one........in a sense, perhaps, musharraf has outsmarted everyone, as this article stated......nawaz sharif is out and gone.......benazir is discredited, because she tried to cut a deal.....neither of them got anything in return.......fazl ur rahman is discredited because he refused to resign, and is ready to cut a deal also......altaf bhai and pml(q) is already allied with musharraf........
who is left?.......imran khan.......but he has no support, beyond his own person........
one assumes, musharraf is not going to cut any further deals with benazir.........so she cannot be prime minister for a third time........and perhaps will have her corruption cases restored.......
i think, now a lot depends on the second level leadership of the ppp.........and what they do.....or on the people of pakistan, if they come out on the streets.......but the upper class people (like chowk crowd) won't even come back to pakistan (much less on the streets), and can only fight keyboard fights.......the lower financial class is fed up with the politicians also, and is thus, unwilling to support pml or ppp........
so, what is next.....
musharraf is now even stronger than before.......he had agreed to take off his uniform, a few days ago.....after this ruling, he doesn't even need to do that........

#236 and if musharraf ends up with another 5 years (as is quite possible, given the characterless politicians), the role of lawyers, journalists and other "westernized" people will continue to shine in Pakistan history. And the role of power-hungry generals, maulvis, and politicians will still be mud.
And if characterless politicians develop some shame, they will unite behind these "westernized" suit-wearing lawyers and their nominee Wajihuddin to sent Mush into retirement.

#234 welcome to the world of the Rule of Law. The "corrupt judges" did not allow Musharraf to sneak in the 17th amendment. The mullahs did as they attempted to make "deals" in power-sharing and lording it over Pakistanis with the military dictator. Stick to the facts.

Corruption and politics are bed fellows in every country of the world. In Pakistan this problem is more acute, but the actual number of perpetrators is small. Get rid of Ch.Pervez and Ch.Shujaat, and half your corruption problem is solved.
