IB and hamid u are both bonkers, Imran couldnt do any thing because he was against the center, this meant he wasnt given the funds when it comes to doing something he built the first and best cancer hospital in a third world country like pakistan out of nowhere

And he is politically stupid because he is inflexible but he is one of the most intelligent captains and bowlers ever, he used to think his opponents out by building expectations one way and then going the other. similarly in cricket captaincy is a mind game that why is why the british call cricket the king of games, and he was a champion at studying the oppostion and the format of the game and then coming up with an appropriate strategy.

In the world cup semi and in final people were surprised at the slow batting and thought pak had lost the game, but Imran was playing slow to preserve the wickets he knew that if wickets are in hand the run rate can be jacked up in the last 10 overs, as 20 20 is now prooving.

similarly he used wasim as a strike bowler and told him to bowl fast and move the ball not worry about wides and no balls because he knew wickets taken would automatically slow the opp.

he used mushtaq and aqib as strike bowlers not containers, Imran backed inzimam throughtout the 92 world cup despite his initial failures, and kept salim malik chor on the bench because he didnt go by past reputation but by current ability.

And when it comes to working hard u might not know Imran was not even the fatsest at atchison leave alone the world but he set that as a goal and achieved it, on the dead pitches against strong oposition he did not settle into a gentle pace in the swelterung heat, he bolwed aggresively whenever he was in the atack, he had a never say die pathan atitude

you can also see his hard work in raising the funds for the cancer hospitl and then building it and maintaining it

he is not some run of the mill politician

HP: The wiki definition of an ideology ("An ideology is an organized collection of ideas.") is incomplete. The proper definition would be: "An ideology is an organized collection of ideas that have been twisted to become a collection of meaningless nonsense spouted as being the Absolute and Therefore Unquestionable Truth by its adherents, the idiotlogues."

I was thinking about writing a few words about ideology and how the ideologies play out in the political arena especially with regards to the Pakistani Politics. After reading one hell of a ridiculous post from Bullya about ideologies, I think it is time we look at this subject for the record.

bulleya’s post misses the proverbial bull’s eye by not just miles but by thousands of miles. Basically bulleya does not even understand what ideology is and what ideological political parties are.

There are some major ideologies that have played a part in politics and some still continue to play a significant role. There really is no truly ideological political party in Pakistan excluding the Islamic parties and we will come to their ideologies a little bit later.

Wiki definition: An ideology is an organized collection of ideas.

Now can someone tell how many political parties really have ideologies in Pakistan? I think Bulleya before writing screeds should first look up the definition of any political terminology he plans to enlighten us about.

The Marxism, Socialism, fascism and to a certain extent capitalism come close to being called ideologies. Then we have religious ideologies that attempt to find some room in the murky political waters. There are many other ideologies that exist but really don’t have a whole lot going for them so we can basically ignore them here.

The Ideologues don’t seek the political power for a limited purpose. Their goal always is to gain the control of the state to impose their ideologies over the people who live in that state. By this definition, most of the ideologies are inherently anti democracy and seek to establish dictatorial regimes. The reason most of the ideological parties fail in elections is that their whole set up is not designed to work with a democratic process where they have to beg for vote by exploiting the small things voters usually need to be relieved of the temporary discomforts of life.

The ideological parties don’t believe in providing temporary relief, they are looking for permanent solutions; Solutions such as the establishment of workers state, setting up a religious state, or for fascists, establishing the superiority of a race or a particular nation. Capitalism as an ideology just lurks around everywhere but stays away from the debate as the capitalists already control the world. The fact is that capitalism is the greediest of all ideologies and most opportunistic too. It too seeks the control of the state but it never defines a political set up for that and thus seeks to use any and every political system for state control.

The hallmark of the ideologies is that they don’t assign any value to human. In pursuit of the ideology, a human body is just a body or some thing that can be ignored or if needed, glorified for the cause. Therefore, the pursuits of ideologies have brought about the most significant misery to this earth. In the last century all three major ideologies cost most human lives. Fascism, Communism/Marxism and capitalism all have dived and enjoyed swimming in the pools of blood.

The Marxism and fascism got lost in their own blood but the surviving capitalism has taken up the cudgel of ensuring that the bloodletting does not stop. During and since the Second World War, the capitalism has been responsible for majority of the deaths in pretty much every part of the world.

The new breeds of religious ideologues, whether they are in Pakistan, Israel or in the US, have no sympathy with the humans. Humans are just a number that needs to be sacrificed at the altar to achieve the desired goal of establishing a religious state.

In Pakistan, the religious ideologues are following in the footsteps of the earlier ideological models. They are throwing human bodies up everywhere to achieve their political goals. To them a suicide bomber is not a human; he is a body being sacrificed for the good of the ideology. They lie, cheat and kill people to make sure that they are able to establish a state for their religious ideology.

Re: # 157

Romair:

I made the following assumptions:

1. Musharaff’s is army’s chamcha, if I my be allowed to say it.

2. The west needs army for many reasons, and army wants power for obvious reasons. Musharaff is their best choice.

3. Musharaff’s is the last general to grab power anywhere in the world. Era of dictators is over and gone.

4. Moderate democracy is inevitable. Responsible leadership is in great demand. Sooner or later competition will be with civilian Musharraff, and younger leaders of Pakistan – and not him with Bhutto, Shariff & Co.

5. You cannot take credit away that he indeed brought in competence, as much as he could. You cannot deny what I wrote earlier about him either.

6. Bhutto (=PPP) will win majority vote, in however corrupt elections may be. Now, there is a corruption on this corruption. Musharaff cannot repeat the last democratic” elections. Besides Chief Justice watching, too many irons are in the fire. You may have named a few, if not all of them.

7. As situation becomes unstable. Army’s actions in FATA in most likely scenario, will only make it more unpopular.

8. Therefore, the choice is democracy with moderates, democracy Iranian model, or bombing back to stone stage – Iraqi style.

Democracy in its Pakistani form must arrive and be rooted, and army must depart before. This is the only sensible conclusion. For whatever you may think of Musharaff, do you honestly believe that he would leave power, if it was to be with government?

At least so far to me, he has played his cards very well. He does not want to be killed before his innings is over.

I cannot say about Islamic world, but I can confidently say that in strategic sessions in Washington, scenarios could not have been painted differently.

Musharaff’s role will not be over, if democracy gains, at least till he has purged army of talibanist elements. Democracy will need, Musharaff more than Musharaff needs Democracy.

There is, truly a lot on the plate of democratic Pakistani, for not to have Musharaff or army on its side. Although, it might look for now, it really be the case army is being forced to marry this bride called democracy. I have faith in this bride, let her in, and she will rule.

After reading of Squib Shiraz, my belief is more confirmed than ever that Pakistan must increase the pool of forward looking youth, not the one’s looking in dead and gone for all answers for present and future problems – hence absence of Yasser’s name in my list of promising Pakistani youths.

anil #: there is one major hole in your army-politicians nexus and alliance being good for pakistan theory.....before i describe that hole, i think your view is the common view amongst americans and those in pakistan who consider mullahs the cause of all trouble.....

.....americans will support anyone in pakistan who will be their ally in their GWOT, even if the alliance damages pakistan......and the anti-mullah brigade will support any crook in pakistan, if he/she is anti-mullah....

.....the hole is that for any alliance to survive, it has to have some ideological commonalities.....the army, mqm, ppp, pml(q) (and perhaps jui(f) at a distance) alliance has nothing in common.....these groups, ideologically, are at each others throats......it is, thus, a temporary alliance of convenience to keep each other out of the courts.....

.....the army hates ppp, and the ppp cadre hate the army....bhutto's death is still blamed on the army by ppp....and fall of dhaka is blamed on bhutto (amongst others) by the army.....many in the army consider bb to be a security risk.....

......pml(q) blames ppp for assasinating chaudhry shujaat's father....and pml and ppp are traditional opponents.....

.....mqm hates ppp, ever since ppp wiped them out in karachi, through govt. action.....and muhajirs and sindhis are traditional rivals in sindh....ppp is the sindhi party and mqm the muhajir party......

........jui(f) and mqm are traditional ideological opposites......they have nothing in common.......and while ppp has worked with jui(f) on occassion, it is an ideological opponent also.......

even the mqm, traditionally, hated the army....however, now they have allied with musharraf, as he, himself is a muhajir and has given them total power in sind (at the expense of the ppp).....he cannot do that when he is partnering with ppp also.....

........how in the world will this alliance survive......the moment, everyone has washed each others' hands and backs, it will split up.......thereby doing far more damage to the political system than good.......

Hamid mian,

(anyone can get go to the store and get fresh milk when they are twenty or thirty - it takes an exceptional man to get fresh milk when they are over fifty ......... and if i remember correctly, our holy prophet (pbuh and his camel) sowed most of his wild oat and drank most of his fresh milk when he was older than sheikh rashid .......)

YLH's favourite bug bear used to get two pints of fresh milk very night at the age of 78. You can page him for greater details.

Borivilli mian,

(he wasnt mad to purchase a cow if milk was available in the market)

I have heard another angle to that story. A woman would be foolish to purchase a whole pig if sausage was available in the market.

Regards

(PS: I hope good Muslimoons on the chowk will not mind my reference to the unclean animal.)

Re: # 150

borivili mian,

....stop comparing imran khan to sheikh rashid if you don't want to suffer the fate of romair (who now hides his shame behind the name of bulleya ) ...... the chowk can be very cruel to foolish people who speak from the wrong end at the wrong time .........

..... even though imran khan's hospital is the biggest beneficiary of my tax-exempt charity contributions, i would compare him to maulana bhashani, nawabzada nasrullah khan and air marshal asghar khan - well meaning men who who wasted their lives protesting and whining and left the scene without any impact on the political scene ....... asghar khan'e own family wouldn't vote for him and in one election a hijra from abbotabad received more votes than the valiant air marshal !

thats so dumb!
according to you borivilli , Imran Khan is better then Sheikh Rasheed just because Imran Khan bowed at 80mph and won a world cup out of no-where?

Imran Khan as a politician - i dont like but as a cricketer he is a hero. Mianwali where Imran won the election is one of the poorest districts of Pakistan and Imran did nothing to improve it - except making some degree college whereas , next door Dr. Sher Afghan developed his area and brought huge prosperity to his people by bringing in more money and development projects.
Seikh Rasheed and Imran Khan is a 'no-match' in Politics , Sheikh Rasheed is far better politician then Imran whereas Imran is a far more better cricketer then Rasheed.

Imran Khan is a snob and a hopeless leader who mysteriously vanishes when his people needs him.

bulleya, zee:

Thanks for your comments. I also think that the judges will not rule against PM, and, from what everyone is saying, the judges' decision too will be based on realpolitik and not necessarily on what the legally correct position is. But I also think that if they do decide against PM, it will put the US in a quandary; they do not want to see an Emergency nor do they want PM to go.
