"General Kiyani zindabad."
Pakistani politics politics does not follow a script so I can't predict whether this will happen or not. But based on what I see, there is no possibility of Gen.Kiyani taking over after Musharaf. He may facilitate changes or perhaps will be the person to tell Musharaf it is time to go, but he himself will not take over not now. They have to bring in civilians and that is the only way for the army to come back again and malign civvies for all the problems-most of them created by the army in the last eight years.

[If they were not hiding behind the religion, most of them would be in jail for being child molester, boy abusers, and money grabbers.]
So in Pakistan, child molesters get away merely by being a "smelly" mullah? Why is it so?
Hamid Mian, what kind of smell do these mullahs have? Why, I always thought they used ittur, don't they?

#40 Posted by hamidm2,
and even though i myself like to cry wolf every time i smell a mullah (which anyone can do at fifty feet), the threat is highly exaggerated .... sure they can set off a couple of suicide bombs every now and then, but the paki army can control things if they want to ......
Hamidm2,
That's exactly what an apostate green grocer from Alabama, lurking around here, with an uncircumcised legitimate kid and an unsuspecting innocent American wife carted off to Pakistan along with the apostate, said after failing everywhere else to make a decent living.
He said:
"The Jamia Hafsa people will surrender once their referigated food supplies run out in 48 hours".
Talk of morons, but I don't consider you to be one.
Repent. There's still time.

"his venomous anti-Islamist rhetoric and sometimes delusional conspiracy theories."
First, I don't care about any religion enough to be pro and anti religion. I don't write against religions. I write against the criminals who hide behind the religions. Unfortunately, all( no exception) Pakistani islamist or Havayonn can be classified as criminals. If they were not hiding behind the religion, most of them would be in jail for being child molester, boy abusers, and money grabbers. They are not politicians and nor are they fighting for any cause. Can't you tell from JI's behavior in PU against Imran as to what they are actually?
Sorry there is no fight for Islam going on in Pakistan. Most the islamists whether they are in the tribal areas or in Swat have been on the agencies payrolls all their lives and perhaps still are.
Lastly, I am not in to conspiracy theories.

zzemax,
........ are they or are they not going to boycott the elections ? ...... it seems like they are all going to take part - some 'under protest' and others openly beysharam .... if they all agree to take part in the election, musharraf will doff his uniform within days and also lift the emergency - that way everyone can save face and get on with the business of politics as usual while tahmed and half a dozen unemployable lawyers continue to protest .........

.....shaukut aziz has decidd not to contest elections........this may be the first time, in pakistan, someone has voluntarily given up prime minister of president post, who had a political backing....... i wonder why.......
Bulleya how long have you been in Pakistan? Not very long I guess.
Bhai, Pervaiz Elahi is your next Prime Minister (if elections are held i.e).
Why would CH. Shujaat give shortcut Aziz a ticket? It was mutarraf's commitment to the Chaudhries all along for their support in making him the president for next 5 years, to make Pervaiz Elahi PM next time around, and you bet they're calling in the favour.
Chaudhries refused shortcut the party ticket. He didn't voluntarily give up a rat's hair off it's ass.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying the chess game being played. It's wonderful!

"i just can't see bb and ns getting together on anything"
I have always believed that you perhaps understand the Pakistan politics better than any one on this site. That amount of knowledge alone can make anyone cynical.
I think it is not necessary for BB and NS to agree on any one thing. They have to do the politics they want to do. I am not sure if their alliance can change any thing but imo, their non-alliance opens up the possibility that the complacency can hit the army at the wrong time.
I don't think shortcut Aziz has any importance in Pakistani politics. He was a one song singer and who cares what he does.

As everyday goes by the eerie similarities between the Yahya khan and Mucharraf become more pronounced and similar. Both presided over a political system that became unworkable and stagnent, both presided over a bloody civil war, extrajudicial murders and genocide, and just as yahya left the country in pieces this ass-hole would also (it is just a matter of time). (Both are fukking adulterers and sharabi as well, but that is besides the point).
The only difference is that Mucharraf cannot find his Tiger Niazi. Yes, there is a whole line up of ass-hole generals but no one wants to father the demise of a crumbling empire - even if one of them is fingered by Americans or Europeans. As the urdu proverb goes "sab ki iss waqt phatti hoi hay". They just want to complete the two years of their tenures as generals, transfer their funds to swiss or amearican money laundering laudromats, and retire to Dubai.
Tiger Niazi where art thou?

I wish to offer a public apology to HP Saeen for the past conflagrations with him over his venomous anti-Islamist rhetoric and sometimes delusional conspiracy theories.
But he's the best political analyst (when not suitably inebriated I guess) as seen today on UP.
My respects HP Saeen.

#37 Posted by bulleya,
(a) and (b) both are correct. Saudis owe Nawaz a big favour for the nuke tests which were done at the Saudis' assurance of no adverse results, and there weren't.
Where Pakistan is concerned, Saudis are not what most people take them for.
As Hamid Gul said "Pakistan Manzil hai? Naheen! Nishaan-e-Raah Hai? Haan!"

"has any one even considered the possibility of fair elections in Pakistan where Benazir and the Botox man Nawaz could win the elections and Musharaf would graciously ask them to form the govt and be a nice and faithful President for the next five years?"
.......... i have, but it is too good to be true and won't happen ...... i just can't see bb and ns getting together on anything other than to talk about botox and hair transplants ..... mushy knows that and there is a good chance they will make his wet dreams come true ....

...... as for the o'hanlon piece on pakistan - we are not the only ones blessed with geniuses like romair ........ a fool is born every minute .... and even though i myself like to cry wolf every time i smell a mullah (which anyone can do at fifty feet), the threat is highly exaggerated .... sure they can set off a couple of suicide bombs every now and then, but the paki army can control things if they want to ......

....interestingly, one point no one is discussing.....shaukut aziz has decidd not to contest elections........this may be the first time, in pakistan, someone has voluntarily given up prime minister of president post, who had a political backing.......
i wonder why.......
rumour is that pml(q) refused to give him a ticket, and he does not have a constituency of his own......so he is out.....
this has to be a major setback for musharraf, as shaukut was his handpicked finance minister and prime minister, and the brains behind musharraf's economic policy successes...

While Rome is burning, two leading intellectuals of the site Hamidm and Tahmed are busy in bursting each other bubble.
For every sensible analysis by Hamidm and TAhmed, there is an ill-considered piece like the recent article in the New York Times by Robert Kagan and Michael O'Hanlon calling for "feasible military options" to deal with the possibility of "nuclear-armed Pakistan" falling into the "abyss." The two options suggested are sending in U.S. Special Forces to help Pakistani security forces protect that country's bombs or sending in a more substantial force to help secure Pakistan's "core" before offering help in "retaking" regions controlled by Islamic fundamentalists and "reclaiming custody of any nuclear weapons."
I demand Hamidm’s immediate attention to this article and would expect a response as to how this Michael O'Hanlon guy is being considered for a high Foggy Bottom position in the Clinton-the woman administration.
Btw, has any one even considered the possibility of fair elections in Pakistan where Benazir and the Botox man Nawaz could win the elections and Musharaf would graciously ask them to form the govt and be a nice and faithful President for the next five years?
I say it is not going to happen so there are no chances of fair elections under Musharaf .
The best Strategy : Both should announce to take part in the elections, use the election campaign to mobilize people and bring them on the streets, ensure that Musharaf changes his mind and postpones the elections and then…… let it rip!
