mr ahmed quraishi,
....... you are a trooper, but you will have to stand in line to get your lips surgically implanted on musharraf's ass .....we pakis are sun worshippers and recognize a rising sun when we see it ....... i am right behind you
#13 Posted by hamidm2 on December 4, 2007 8:21:58 pm
god is in heaven, mush is in the presidency, bush is in the white house - all is well with the world
...... is it just me, or has everyone lost interest in pakistani politics ? ....... even the politicians look utterly bored or confused ....... qazi sahib looks like he is about to cry, imran khan seems to be half-asleep, nawaz sharif has that deer-in-headlights look, bb looks like she is suffering from perpetual pms, and maulana fazloo looks like the cat who ate the canary but can't swallow it .......
...... what the heck is going on?........ it seems that everyone has accepted the fact that mush has outfoxed them and they are ready to roll over and play dead or sit up and beg with their tongues hanging out !
....... let's support a winner and start a movement to elect musharraf president for life !
....... president musharraf zindabad !

Re: #9 tahmed32:
Seems like everybody will just complain about NS and BB. I seriously thing its not about personalities anymore. May be Mr. Quraishi should wake up and talk about real issue. This issue at hand is "Free Media" and even more important is "independent judiciary".
Mr. Quraishi, did Mr. Gul congratulated Mush about Judiciary?
On a side note, I would not blame the author, he grew up area governed by Dictator trade union. He only read history and politics of America and Western Europe. I doubt he ever experienced it. He would never know what civil rights are.

Rashid Sahib,
So true! The definition of democracy in Pakistan is to attain power by any means (rigging, violence, cheating, killing, rioting, lockdown, etc..) The definition of opposition party is to bring down a prevailing government (lying, cheating, walkouts, violence, street protests, working with foreign interests, assassinations, etc...). Isn't it ironic that nothing of significant value gets accomplished under a so-called "democratically-elected" government in Pakistan?

Quraishi Sahib,
Brilliant piece! You have portrayed Bezamir Bhutni and Najaaez Besharif as many of us have come to view them. Only a pair of buffoons and imbeciles like these two could ever make Mushy tolerable. LOL

One thing is clear.
People in Punjab and Sind have been reasonably happy with Musharraf and Co. The problem had been in Baluchistan and NWFP. Although I disagree with high handed approach taken by Musharraf. I think religious right which has enjoyed state patronism all along Zia ul haq era and through the agencies until Musharraf took power was most angry. Some of the undoing was Musharraf's also.
There is no question that Jamate Islami workers are very organized and again will be used for demonstrations and street power. But as history shows they have street power but no mass support.
If elections are held, whether they boycott they will loose, whether they participate they will loose.
On another account as Bhutto famously said "Only a historian can determine once he writes history, (or the history will determine the contribution).
This is election period and less than a month are left. And election period is tough. Opposition is going to make its presence felt as is the previous Government. there will be election strategy, rallies etc (and surprisingly people are not interested).
On another count I don't have much faith in politicians. Benazir although more educated has one point agenda "Kursi" "Kursi" "Kursi", Nawaz Sharif will again try to do the same thing. Jamat-e-Islami has never known what it wants except putting a Islamic band around the head and come out "Murdabad" "Murdabad".

Re #5 Jhangirm,
I sure hope that you were joking, if not then you need to seriously check your heroes list. Hugo Chavez is speaking up because his country got oil, but even then there is no comparison between im and Mush . He accepted his defeat yesterday, did not try the referendum as your hero.
Same is true for Putin, the country has gas reserves. What mush has got? half a million army to run Wapda?

President Musharraf is the Putin of Pakistan, the Hugo Chavez of Pakistan. What I mean is that his blood runs green and white. He has twice fought on the front line for Pakistan. He has put his life on the line for Pakistan. None of his enemies (you haters) would even risk a tooth or nail for Pakistan. And the political opposition would rather go and live it up in London/Dubai with their ill-gotten gains, then risk their lives for others.

Mr. Quraishi works for PTV. What else we can expect from him. He was wrong in 1992, about Iraq and he is wrong today. Nothing changed in 16 years.

Ahmad Quraishi:
You say:
{“This bunch of jokers failed to impress him,” said a protocol officer who witnessed the meetings.}
Give us the name of the person who said this. This is yellow journalism at its worst. You have zero credibility. We have been watching you on PTV. I think the the real tragic comedy is that we have the 'imposition' of people like you in our society.

Abdulla Gul need not be impressed by the Pakistani politicans -- after what he had to go through to become the president -- Mr. Gul has to have lots of respect for army Generals,
Mr. Gul is under notice from Gen Yasar Buyukanit the Turkish COAS -- there is a noose hanging over your head -- you bring your personal Islam into the Government and you hang by the nearest tree.

Your bias for Musharraf's ideals is evident in your articles. Please don't bring the country into disrepute by highlighting our people as 'jokers'. It is very easy to be an expat, like yourself, and criticise Pakistan. Be proud of Pakistan, not dictators.
