pmishra2, that's unfair. All that mahmood mahmood bhai is asking is that the rest of us read and read till we get it. Like he has. And if you still don't get it, examine your own heart, pray to God for truer understanding, ask Him for forgiveness, and read again.

I am told the Buddha too taught that.

yaar, you dont get it, do you?

This is discussion is for muslims, real ones who know arabic, to sigh over the past greatness of their culture. Ridiculous questions from a filty, polytheistic, idol-worshipper ingrate will not be answered.

Just be grateful that your ancestors werent "absorbed" or "dissapeared" when the great pluralistic islamic culture "arrived" in south asia. It is only because of this pluralism that there dozenss of sikh temples in Kabul, many synagogues in Saudi Arabia, a large and growing community of openly religous hindus in Pakistan.

Mahfari,

Nice article on Cordoba. Why do you think muslims havent been able to duplicate that success of a open, pluralistic society in other places like Pakistan, Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia?

Mahmoood:
A breeze of fresh air.
Umayyads originated from Arab and were prosperous and had governing skills at the time of Prophet PBUH. When Abu Sufyan the father of first Umayyad Caliph Muawiya became Muslim he was sent as emissary to the courts of different kings. Umayyads were pragmtic. When they got defeated in Baghdad Abdur Rehman al Dakhil established empire in Al Andulas.
It was a period of great prosperity, intellectual pursuit etc.
One of the great name of that period is Averroes (Ibn-Rushd) who was banished under the influence of religious extremist. His standing at that time was as much as Maimonides also a great scholar. Averroes is one of the pioneers of modern scientific thinking propounding the idea of observation and experiment rather than supernatural as the basis of study of phenomenon.

. Muslim conquest of non-muslim land is part of the glorious islamic history and is to be celebrated by muslims and non-muslims alike.
2. Non-muslim conquest of muslim land is a tragedy to be mourned forever muslims and non-muslims alike. All efforts, including terrorism, are justified in reversing the situation in the favor of muslims.

well said.. :-)

here we go again...do I need to repeat the rules of islamic discourse?

3. When non-muslims take "muslim" land, that's an evil occupation.
4. When muslims take non-muslim land, the land becomes muslim forever. If said non-muslims take the land back, it's an evil occupation again(refer to rule number 3).

Hope that helps the non-muslim readers.

More islamic loving kindness ----

Firuz Shah Tughluq was the third ruler of the Tughlaq dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. The "Tarikh-i-Firuz Shah" is a historical record written during his reign that attests to the systematic persecution of Hindus under his rule.[26] In particular, it records atrocities committed against Hindu Brahmin priests who refused to convert to Islam:

“ An order was accordingly given to the Brahman and was brought before Sultan. The true faith was declared to the Brahman and the right course pointed out. but he refused to accept it. A pile was risen on which the Kaffir with his hands and legs tied was thrown into and the wooden tablet on the top. The pile was lit at two places his head and his feet. The fire first reached him in the feet and drew from him a cry and then fire completely enveloped him. Behold Sultan for his strict adherence to law and rectitude.[26] ”

Under his rule, Hindus who were forced to pay the mandatory Jizya tax were recorded as infidels, their communities monitored and, if they violated Imperial ordinances and built temples, they were destroyed. In particular, an incident in the village of Gohana in Haryana was recorded in the "Insha-i-Mahry" (another historical record written by Amud Din Abdullah bin Mahru) where Hindus had erected a deity and were arrested, brought to the palace and executed en-masse.[26]

Heh, heh, of course, harimau doesnt read arabic and he isn't a muslim. So he is a sub-human, right? This is what is known as pluralism in islam.

So lets enjoy some of the gentle tales of islamic "non-violence" and pluralism.

----------------------------

In the Taj-ul-Ma’asir by Hassn Nizam-i-Naishapuri, it is stated that when Qutb-ul- Din Aibak (1194-1210) conquered Meerat, he demolished all the Hindu temples of the city and erected mosques on their sites. In the city of Aligarh, he converted Hindu inhabitants to Islam by the sword and beheaded all those who adhered to their own religion. Abdulia Wassaf writes in his Tazjiyat-ul-Amsar wa Tajriyat ul Asar that when Alaul- Din Khilji (1295-1316) captured the city of Kambayat at the head of the gulf of Cambay, he killed the adult male Hindu inhabitants for the glory of Islam, set flowing rivers of blood, sent the women of the country with all their gold, silver, and jewels, to his own home, and made about twentv thousand maidens his private slaves. Ala-ul-Din once asked his Qazi’, what was the Mohammadan law prescribed for the Hindus. The Qazi replied, “Hindus are like the mud; if silver is demanded from them, they must with the greatest humility offer gold. If a Mohammadan desire to spit into a Hindu’s mouth, the Hindu should open it wide for the purpose. God created the Hindus to be slaves of the Mohammadans. The Prophet hath ordained that, if the Hindus do not accept Islam, they should be imprisoned, tortured, finally put to death, and their property confiscated.” Sayad Mohammad Latif writes in his history of the Punjab, “Great jealousy and hatred existed those days between the Hindus and Mohammadans and the whole non-Muslim population w• subject to persecution by the Mohammadan rulers.”

You like to fight Muslims, it seems. So you are a hypocrite.

You do not read or speak Arabic nor are you familiar with Islamic history enough to know whether Killing Kafirs is the correct translation nor the context it might be related.

So you are ignorant and prejudiced.

Finally, with your hypocrisy, your ignorance and your prejudice in full view, you come to correct me, a person who is more specifically critical of Islam than your dumb ass.

This makes you futile as well.

With all of these problems, are you SURE you should be criticizing ANYONE!?!?

I'm sure my words are wasted. And I did not come here for a fight. Your hatred is your reward and mine. Only the reasons differ.

Ref Hamed #25

[Stop looking back and think present. What has Islam done for humanity lately?

And if the answer is less than enough, blame us Muslims and not Allah, the Holy Prophet (s) or the Qur'an.]

So, when one reads "Kill the kaffirs" in the Qur'an, it is not the fault of Allah (whose Word the Qur'an is supposed to be), the illiterate camel-herder Mohammad (who is supposed to have received this Divine revelation from Allah Himself, may a thousand fleas infest his armpits) or of the Qur'an.

That leaves the Kaffirs as the culprits.

Yup, it is never the fault of Muslims; it is the kaffirs who make them do abominable things. Now, if only they would all die or convert -- sorry, revert -- to Islam, we can all live in peace.
