Imad Sahib,
The bigger the stake that all citizens have in the existence and well being of a nation, the greater the chances of its survival and prosperity in the longer term. In a way, I agree with Salim; Pakistan can still be salvaged and put on the road to peace and prosperity. But fixing it is not the responsibility of any particular individual or groups of individuals. And it is futile waiting for a messiah. Only if we can ALL step up to fix Pakistan, can it be fixed. For that to happen, though, there has to be something for everyone in order to motivate them to stick together and struggle. In this sense, the first step have to be taken by the state.
The sixty year history of Pakistan is filled with broken promises and crass injustice to its people and to its provinces, . If the state, and the province of Punjab, do not back off, there will soon be no Pakistan left to lament about.
Will Pakistanis stand up to stare down the forces of extremism? I believe they will; but only if dignity, justice, and redress is on offer to everyone. The state of Pakistan did not just break its promises to the provinces; the current situation in FATA and NWFP is in direct breach of the understanding on the basis of which this region agreed to become part of Pakistan. If there is to be any hope whatsoever, the Pak military forces MUST retreat from there, and Pakistan MUST disengage from the US sponsored WOT. The same applies to the approach being pursued in Balochistan.
This does not mean that the state will abandon the struggle against extremism. But there are many ways to skin a cat, and we need to find a way that is acceptable to our own people.

Manto, it was called MUSLIM LEAGUE...pakistan was created as a home for SOUTH ASIAN muslims...gandhi could have been ur khalifah...but to make the pakistan movement as some secular drive is the height of falsehood, disingenuity and franlky stupidity

I am afraid even Nanga Pir's understanding of the reasons why we made Pakistan are as lacking as Mr. Qureshi and other Indians etc.
It was the devious alliance between Caste Hindu fascist leaders like Gandhi and their side kick the Muslim Clergy that forced Jinnah to fight for and win Pakistan. Congress' inability to accept rational and secular leaders like Jinnah as the true representatives of Muslims and Congress' reliance on freaks and Mullahs instead led to the creation of Pakistan.
And ofcourse... while the clergy wanted to keep the Muslims backwards (and thus play into the Gandhian idea of India), Jinnah and the Muslims who followed him had asked for political and economic safeguards... something patently unacceptable to Gandhi and the Congress... Muslims like Jinnah daring to speak for them ... oh my God.
there is a much greater link of Gandhi to Moplahs and indeed Jamia Hafsa ... than the two nation theory that Jayp wants to malign and has even taken to inventing quotes... you know could care less to bring them together but if someone can so illogically argue and try to link the Islamo-fascist tendencies in a small minority of Muslims to our legtimate stance for Pakistan... then one should point out the obvious links between Gandhi and true Islamic fundamentalist and terrorist movements of South Asia... I do not wish to dwell Gandhi honestly but if this line of argument is taken... should I not point out the facts?
Achyuth Patwardhan, one of the Socialist stalwarts in the Congress, has given a remarkably candid and self critical analysis of the Congress Party vis-a-vis Khilafat: ’It is, however, useful to recognise our share of this error of misdirection. To begin with, I am convinced that looking back upon the course of development of the freedom movement, THE ’HIMALAYAN ERROR’ of Gandhiji’s leadership was the support he extended on behalf of the Congress and the Indian people to the Khilafat Movement at the end of the World War I. This has proved to be a disastrous error which has brought in its wake a series of harmful consequences. On merits, it was a thoroughly reactionary step. The Khilafat was totally unworthy of support of the Progressive Muslims. Kemel Pasha established this solid fact by abolition of the Khilafat. The abolition of the Khilafat was widely welcomed by enlightened Muslim opinion the world over and Kemel was an undoubted hero of all young Muslims straining against Imperialist domination. But apart from the fact that Khilafat was an unworthy reactionary cause, Mahatma Gandhi had to align himself with a sectarian revivalist Muslim Leadership of clerics and maulvis. He was thus unwittingly responsible for jettisoning sane, secular, modernist leadership among the Muslims of India and foisting upon the Indian Muslims a theocratic orthodoxy of the Maulvis. Maulana Mohammed Ali’s speeches read today appear strangely incoherent and out of tune with the spirit of secular political freedom. The Congress Movement which released the forces of religious liberalism and reform among the Hindus, and evoked a rational scientific outlook, placed the Muslims of India under the spell of orthodoxy and religious superstition by their support to the Khilafat leadership. Rationalist leaders like Jinnah were rebuffed by this attitude of Congress and Gandhi. This is the background of the psychological rift between Congress and the Muslim League’.

{Indian muslims rewrote Koran for their vested interests. There is NO religious based nation in Islam}
Based on your view, every other State recognized as Islamic is guilty of the same crime, then why accuse Pakistan only. I believe, the guilty party in your perspective should be Maulana Maududi who is responsible for propagating the Islamic credentials of the state. Jinnah's Pakistan was supposed to be secular, not religiously ordained.

Indian muslims rewrote Koran for their vested interests. There is NO religious based nation in Islam. Koran says about Moses, "then the chiefs of his own nation revolted against him". Those were infidels because they revolted against Moses. But still his nation. So a Hindu living next to a Muslim may be infidel but not a separate nation. Similarly, Abu Jahil and Abu Lahib belonged to Muhammed nation (Qureshi) but infidel. Religion does not make nation. And first english translator, a shia bureaucrat also created Serbia nation. We saw the results. Two nation theory was created by mainly shias and sheiks. Iqbal, the confused poet, calls nation as coffin of Islam yet he has no shame to declare, Hindi hain hum Hindustan watan hamara'. You can not feed people verbal garbage and enslave them. And these lies based on religion have become the hallmark of Pakistani culture. If a sepoy lies he is severly punished but generals have no check. Zia lied in Kabbah about election. Just few days ago at Benzir killing Bragadier lied and lied repeatedly and still has job. Mushraff the biggest lier says she was provided security of 30 cops. How many cops died in the blast? None. Where were they?

The only way for the survival of Pakistan
Pakistan was come into existence by the special gift of Allah “Subhana Wa Tallah” on August 14, 1947. If we remind the historical events of the creation of Pakistan, we would see a gloomy picture of hatred, violence and bloodshed at the time of partition and migration to and from Pakistan. Many of our cultured and so-called educated people now forced to believe that the creation of Pakistan was gifted by the English Rulers of the subcontinent, who woven a conspiracy against the Muslims of India and specially the Muslims of new country.
The fact that Pakistan was created on 27th of Holly month of Ramadan. The month which is sacred for its divine blessings from Allah. The prayers and religious offerings are accepted by the special grace of Almighty Allah and the Muslims are bestowed with the unseen prizes and gifts according to their purity of intentions and connection with their Mighty Creator Allah.
We on the whole as a Muslim Society living in Pakistan have totally ignored the facts and figures and true purpose of the creation of Pakistan. More or less 1 million Muslims were murdered or died during the transitional period of subcontinent. The day begins with the creation of Pakistan; we have been conspired with wrong mythology and ideas. We have forgotten the two nation theory which was the basic factor of the establishment of a Muslim estate in the subcontinent.
Pakistan was established in the name of Allah and to practice the Muslim laws, rules and regulations of Holly Quran. Our forefathers cheated us and spoiled the blood of martyrs of partition. The only way to survive our beloved Pakistan is to fulfill those promises which were undertaken by our forefathers with Almighty Allah. No peace and harmony can stay in this region without the practice of Quranic Code of Conduct in the society on the whole and individually at homes. We have to collectively fight to eradicate the evils of society like, drinking, telling lies, conspiring against each other for material pursuits, bribery, dishonesty in our routine dealings, forgery, cheating, dodging, using every hook and crook to get rich, availing opportunities against the national interest, supporting such elements who are harmful for the greatest interest of Islam and Pakistan, etc. etc.
We all know what evils have taken roots in our mind and hearts which have corrupted our body and souls and taken us far from the path of a civilized and cultured society which was the magnificence of Islam at the time of the rule of Hazrat Omer Bin Abdul Aziz (Razi Allah Ho Anho).
We have to adopt the Holly Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in every dealing of our life otherwise we would be definitely vanished from the face of the earth and Allah will take charge to some other people to perform His Holly Duty.
Please reanalyze the circumstances ever since the creation of Pakistan and take the right step which would be in accordance to the Quranic Code of Conduct and Holly Sunnah.

{"As a nation and society we are hypocrites and opportunists. May be it does not sound pleasing to many of you but just give it a thought. At the start of the New Year let us at least promise to do some thing if not everything for the betterment of ourselves. Let us not let the world think that we are a cursed nation."}
Zafar Sahib,
I can appreciate your frustrations and even understand the hopelessness of the moment. Like you, I too was dejected by the untimely demise of BB. But, what I saw in the last few days following her murder made me even more depressed and angry. As someone said every night is followed by the morn and it's darkest just before daylight.
Please don't be sad forever and certainly don't throw in the towel. We need just a few motivated, honest, patriotic, and dedicated individuals from each community and each province who really love Pakistan. Excuse me for being a doubting Thomas, but I don't think that such people can be found in the likes of Mushy, Zardari, Sharif, the Chaudhrys, or Altaf Bhai. Like BB, all of these people have too much baggage and the fish n their bags, that they brought to feed us, is beginning to rot and smell. We need to dispense with the traditional, useless alliances of party, province, sect, language, and religion. We need to discard these useless pirs, politicians, feudal lords, mullahs, and army generals.
The students and educated youth of Pakistan need to take matters into their own hands. They need to forcefully tell their elders and their so-called movers and shakers to grow up and get out of the way. The youth have the most to lose from the pending doom. The fratricidal leaders and their childish games that even Machiavelli would scoff at have no meaning in this modern world. They cannot keep destroying this country every 10 years or so without serious consequences.
The young people of Pakistan have to resolve that they will make their country work. Not because of the less than Azam Quaid or the rascals posing as "Shaheed," or the bearded 7th century transplants calling themselves Maulana and Alim, and certainly not the "Ghazis" whose only victory has been routing Moola Fadloola in Swat. The youth of Pakistan needs to retire the old school and take over the country.
The young Pakistanis need to take an oath against using ethnic, religious, provincial, sectarian, linguistic, class, or racial excuses to tear each other apart. They need to restore or build our institutions of education, government, healthcare, and legitimate defense. In short, Pakistan needs an educated population that believes in genuine democracy with secularism, freedom, tolerance, and universal prosperity as its cornerstones.
It's not easy to accomplish, but it's not impossible. It was much harder to obtain Pakistan - it should be much easier to maintain and enhance it. Good Luck.

Let's make it simple:
1. It was India named because of river Indus. After partition it is still called India. The other Pakistan.
2. Indian muslims goofed native of Indus valley and made it homeland for Muslims. Why Saudi Arabia is not a homeland for Muslims with Kabbah and 300 years long lasting oil?
3. Then Bengladesh came into being and Pakistan was converted to Mohajirstan. But like India still called Pakistan.
4. Then Ruling Hindustani Muslims from Bhutto, Zia, Shrief, Mushraff made it Zionistan.
5. Next step is to convert it into Pimpistan. But the native are rising to occasion to break away from these chains.

Dear Imad,
Well said. First things first. Decide whether this is Jinnah's or Maududi's Pakistan. For here lies the crux of the problem. We live in a irrational state that has bestowed on itself the ordained right to decide for the majority.
