HP: I always thought that ji was very much a part of Punjab culture because I heard it used so much, even in Punjabi, like "aaho ji!" The point where I begin to make fun of it is when it sounds sycophantic like "mian ji" Anyway. . .

ana,
We used to make fun of people "mian ji" you remember that!
Growing up, I used to hear this "mian" stuff in certain circles but "ji" is new. I guess indian movies have contributed to that, Haan Ji!
Asadi, Calm down now don't be a pest! Tahmed is a fine gentleman you need to stop bothering him. That is really not right and you are sometimes just harrasing him for nothing!
Gustakhi ki Mazrat!

HP sahib: I had no idea "ji" was an alien alqab! I grew up using this in Lahore mostly with elders like grandparents, uncles, aunts. . . I should definitely try to kick the habit. . .
Vaisay, I know he was commenting on the acting talent, I just thought I'd be contrary for the fun of it. :)
Masadi: I do not think I have ever interacted with you, but I know of your distate for Tauheed sahib. Having said that HP was being critical of me for how I addressed Tahmed, and not Tauheed. If you did not get that, I think you need to reread your post. Unless you feel you must express your disgust even when he is remotely involved.

HP writes "Whats wrong with Bhoav, murse, or simple Tahmed sahib?"
Mian ji you need to give this fool the HELL that he deserves, you know 100% where he is coming from, from the spot where the sun dont shine

We used to have a culture where these alqab like Mian and Ji were non existent. I think this Ji and Mian and bhai are alien alqabs and people should stay away from them.
Whats wrong with Bhoav, murse, or simple Tahmed sahib?
Btw, Tahemd ji aiya noon was commenting on the ugliness and not on the acting talent. The guy is butt ugly and there is no doubt that he fit the part (zia) well. Btw, I have not seen the movie. I dont know why they had to pay Om puri, they could have hired Hamid...I heard he is plenty ugly and that even for a Pindiwal Pathan is strange!

Tahmed ji:
Om Puri in your opinion may be the ugliest actor, but he's a bloody good one and Punjabi to boot, so Old Surma-eyes might not be so hopping mad in hell afterall. :D

The movie turned a little hollow when they started showing Charlie willing to help the afghans only because of his humane side. The whole world knows that American policy in this specific was as it is in others is purely motivated by their own self interest. Nothing humane about strategic planning.
Good acting by Tom Hanks and the others...but a bit frivolous

I am glad they picked the ugliest actor in the world (this Indian actor who seems to love portraying himself as Pakistani as in his previous film East Meets West or something as well) as Zia. Hope General Jabra the Hut is hopping mad in hell (where he no doubt is) upon learning about this.

#16 Posted by MeraPakistan,
I guess the movie was not intended to go into detail. It is not a documentary. It is the usual mix of sex, violence and dramatic events.
It is true that without the Pakistani military advisers assigned with each Mujahideen group, the Soviets would not have been defeated.

This movie didnot depict the truth. According to this movie the war was fought by only Afghans with American assistance in the form of arms and ammunation.
No credit was given to pakistan for winning this war and we all know that Pakistan played a vital role in the retreat of USSR making USA the only super power of the world and hence removing the balance of power.
Nowadays US does whatever it wants, it invade any country it want and is trying to invade Pakistan now. Thanks to Pakistan for making USA a Bull which has just broken its rope and is out of control.

An excerpt from my old article, 'Right Burqa Wrong Lips':
In the same garlic breath, the fantastic regime across the border claimed, “We don’t like Julia Roberts. Her lips are wrong for us.” I think, subliminally they admitted: Her lips LONG for us. Their insult will surely agitate Hollywood.
