“If Hussain fought to quench his worldly desires, then I do not understand why his sisters, wives and children accompanied him. It stands to reason therefore that he sacrificed purely for Islam.” —Charles Dickens

Re: # 12 how un-islamic ???
Karbala was not about politics, had it been all politics then Hussain had not left Madina, his strong hold. So no political comparisons. It was all about Hussain and Hussain was Islam because no muslim could afford disrespecting Hussain and His Family by politicizing or conspiring His Martydom. He was blessed in Messenger's life with all rewards from Allah with Allah's orders.

Yes it was the two families of the Quresh tribe but only one of them was feuding for power ho had been in power and lost it due to converting to muslims and eventually they had this power in after years of Karbala as well. Imams never had power: 1st Imam was Caliph but power was not His desire, similarly no Imam afterwards had power though they were offered which proves that Hussain and His family was not desiring power and it was not a political conflict.

No Question about Their vision, They were already told about
Karbala in Their lives.

The reality of Karbalaa, is a Wakeup Call even today in politics. The demand for dynastic ‘Right’ (often by recycled leaders) coupled with the self deception that one is the only spiritual and worldly ‘Shepherd’ of the flock, clouds ones judgments. But on human level, laced with temptations for power, glory and personal wealth, if vehemently pursued, inevitably results in disaster for the very same people and nation they claim to want to lead. I hasten to say that Hussein was free from these later temptations, so I take the history with a pinch of salt, for it is heavily laced with religios dogma, vested interests and emotions. May be he was misguided by his own belief (Tony Blair sincerely ‘believed’ that he was right to go to war in Iraq, against all advice!)
One has to be blessed with divine wisdom and vision to see the big picture. Hassan, the elder brother of Hussein demonstrated this by abdicating his claim for Caliphate.
If history is to be believed, he was nominated by his father Ali ibn Ibi Talib, against the Quranic instructions and established previous practice, so why deny the same right to Muawiyah to nominate his son Yazid twenty years later, when Hussein staked his claim to caliphate and gave us the tragedy of Karbala? In politics power wins and Yazid had the largest army then. Besides it was the two families of the Quresh tribe who were feuding for power amongst themselves. Islam was not an issue I believe.
Hassan therefore gave the Muslims (not Islam as it was completed long ago during the prophets time, 5-4) twenty years of peace and progress. Therefore let us celebrate that wisdom and vision of his, alas so profoundly lacking in our leaders today, particularly in Pakistan!

If you look at Imam Hussain's martyrdom as the ultimate sacrfice to save Islam then it is an occassion to celebrate

Shameleful murder of Rasool (PBUH)'s family and humiliating the respectable female servivors in Bazar-e-Sham and Darbar-e-Yazid is ocassion to celebrate?? Lakh Lanat on this celebration.

it depends on your POV.
yours?
in islam, maatam karna --mourning -- is not allowed.
so this is your PoV. right? no you are trying to say that this is your islam!

If you look at Imam Hussain's martyrdom as the ultimate sacrfice to save Islam then it is an occassion to celebrate. So we say, "Wah Hussain!" not "Aah Hussain!" as the others do.

Say that considering that His last son (Imam) & BB Zainab (SA) is listening to you. Will you?

Also, ashura was a holy day in islam even before the martyrdom of imam hussain and the prophet and companions would fast on this day

ignocent.... prove that!
no way it was a fasting day. just fabricated.
By the what does holy mean in your Islam i.e. PoV?

Naqsh,

you continue to be despicable, as usual.

"So we say, "Wah Hussain!" not "Aah Hussain!" as the others do. "

The term Ahlul Bayt is held to include Imam Ali, Hazrat Fatima, Imam Hasan and Hussein, and remaining 9 imams from their progeny. This view is held unanimously by the lovers of Ahlul Bayt, as well as some Sunni scholars based on authentic hadith and ayats from Quran.

For example the Hanbali imam (a sunni sect), quotes the Prophet(saw)'s wife Umm Salma in 'Musnad' as saying: The Holy Prophet (s) covered `Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them all) with the cloak and then stretched his hand toward the sky and said: "Allah! These are the Members of my Household, so purify them of all uncleanness'. Ummu Salamah said: "I asked him: "Am I also with you?" He stated: "You are on good and virtue."

Many other traditions like the event of 'Mubahilah' further help to clear the meaning of Ahlul Bayt.

This reminds be of an anecdote.
An African Muslim, many years back, happen to visit Bombay (Mumbai) and witnessed the Matam procession of the Muharram. He asked his friends as to what it was all about. He was explained the significance of the occasion and the actions of the participants, upon which he expressed in amazement “did they receive the 1400 years old news now?!”
