In spite of everything, these elections should never have taken place. In some masochistic frenzy the Pakistani electorate, co-opting Western pro-democracy agitprop, have in essence surrendered their nation to Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari; both utterly reprehensible and proven criminals.

Pakistan's turbulent climate particularly in so far as separatists, fundamentalists and terrorists as well as poverty, illiteracy and one sided globalisation/(imperialism) shall inevitably be aggravated by these criminals having acquired office.

Musharraf's martial law will be looked back at with nostalgia, by the time Sharif and Zardari have had their way.

I completely agree, pakiostan deserves only military rule or kalifayet as required by islam. One should not forget the jubilations when mushy came to power.

Lal majid and FATA re nothing, they were jihadis wanting to reach heaven, and any muslim govt should help this. They should not be made to travel to kashmir or london underground enroute to heaven.

Now that mushy is almost gone, the jihadis will have to travel far and wide and that is teh concern for the world. No wonder the world liked mushy, and he should be loved by the jihadis as well.

Re. majumdar & FATA/Lal Masjid:

Pakistan has every legal and moral right to protect its territorial integrity as far as the Waziristan issue goes. Pakistan is greater than the sum of it parts and the idea and security of Pakistan supersedes the interests of a few petty traitors. The persons holding the nation hostage in so far as the Lal Masjid affair were criminals and a disgrace not just to Pakistan, but the whole of humanity and thankfully got their just desserts.

The great paki people have voted. Secind largest party is PML-Q, they have all pakistan representation and have polled more votes that PML-N which the pakis are praising so much. This is a clear indication that pakis liked mushy and his party. If it were not for the death of benazir, PML-Q would have been the major party.

The pakistanis do not want to accept the reality, that is all.

I request you to go see a doctor immediately. That's the only way that you'll find out that you've become de-sensitized to the army baton stuck up every Pakistani a*se since independence. You'll feel much better and realize that Sharif and Zardari are merely inflicting pin-pricks on you compared to Musharaff and the gazillion fauji parasites who are wasting away the Pakistani body.

The Pakistan economy has grown by 6.6 percentage points from 1.8 in 2000 under the Army. The external debt has gone down from 48% of the economy in 2001 to 39% in 2007 under the army. Foreign exchange reserves have gone up from $3 billion in 2001 to nearly $14 billion in 2007. In fact poverty levels have decreased by about 10% since 2001. You can confirm this anywhere on any source dealing with the Pakistan economy, so in no way can the Military be described as parasites. In fact it probably goes to show that “only� the military represent competent economic actors.

The previous bout of economic performance was under Zia between 1981 and 1987.

Between 1988 to 1999 the Pakistani public were being “democratic� . The economy went straight down the toilet initially because BB was a dumb as a down syndromed monkey and her husband was a criminal. Things went from bad to worse when the government changed and even worse when the PPP came back the second time. The coup de grace was the IJI coalition when the Nawaz government made a record $2 billion disappear under the “Qarz Utaro Mulk Sanwaro� and the Forex emergency of 1998.

Civilian government means corruption. Anyone who want civilian government in Pakistan therefore advocates corruption and by which argument is either stupid, too young to remember what civilian govt. means or most probably, corrupt.

This is a very timely topic you have taken up. Swedish Social-Democracy is based on heavy taxation to support perhaps the most generous welfare system in the world - although the neo-liberal onslaught which is currently going on in the world has begun to make dents in it. But Swedish social-democracy was built by a mass, democratic movement of the working class that rejected the extreme measures and policies of orthodox communism in favour of democracy and reform. Without a strong social democratic party emerging in Pakistan the chances that our parasitical ruling elites will pursue radical taxation is rather small. But I am glad you are developing an argument in favour of taxation as a way of entitlements to services. This needs to be stressed.

The article (link below) highlights the pro-elitist character of our tax system, where the poor are bearing the tax burden of the rich!. It is a national shame. It also suggests ways and means to remove dichotomies, distortions and anti-people biases in the prevailing tax system. Pakistan can easily overcome its fiscal deficit through alternative solutions and innovative means in the very next budget for 2008-09 provided the new coalition government shows political will, devise rational, pro-growth, equitable tax polices policies and implement them with the backing and support of all the stakeholders. The strongest resistance will certainly come from the rich lobby within the coalition partners, vested interest in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) having unholy alliance with tax evaders and unscrupulous business giants. Intelligentsia, masses and civil society representatives will have to raise collective voice and exert pressure on these elements. We need to come out of debt enslavement and make Pakistan a self-reliant economic entity, which alone will free us from political subservience of Washington and its allies (beggars cannot be the chooser).
