Hamidm, do you enjoy the eating of an animal which eats faeces? Doesn't it repel you? Doesn't it make you puke?

Now don't give me that bullshit about pig farming and all that. Can you prevent a pig from eating it's own faeces?

What's between us guys and the poor pig is that the pig is the ONLY animal which eats its own faeces (hindoos are a close second behind because they drink and worship urine though not faeces as far as I know). Leave aside the religious edict.

This eating of faeces is the basis for the Islamic prohibition for eating this animal. No other reason. The pig revels in filth (pigsty definition of any filthy place).

But if you enjoy the flesh of an animal nourished on the discarded faeces from its body being body waste, but recycled, go ahead! Shit eaters will be shit eaters!

I have seen "bakras" before the "Baqr Eid" drinking their own, and each others, urine and faeces; especially males without castration (I suppose that is a pre-requisite); they attain a musky smell and are often referred to as "Bo-bakra" in punjabi because of this. I never saw it repel any of the "farzandaan-e-Islam" the following day!

What is Murtad 101 and faithfreedom; I am not familiar with this but will check them out now you mention it. Besides, a question, a genuine one not just a grammatically correct phrase, is a question regardless of who composed it!

thanks for giving a so called scientific explanation for a prescription from a book of no more value based relevance.

May be at the time of the book, the author did not know that most of the bottom feeding crustations including prawns live on the excrement of other fish.

As the resident chowk mullah, you add a fartwa on the prawn eaters as well.

Jihadis are the smartest lot in pakistan. yet another bomb blast, putting pressure on the elected people to leave the jihadis alone. The yanks are in real trouble, a little like in gaza, they want democrazy, but does not like what the people really want.

The people of pakistan want a true islamic republic, and the PPP and the lot did not even mention that. It is good to see that at last the people of pakistan are making their desires clear.

I can tell you why prawns are makrooh; the answer is in Leviticus (Old Testament) where Yahweh, God of Israel and subsequently Christians then Muslims, was handing down the dietary rules to be followed by the Isralelites; it includes a prohibition of animals that either don't chew their cud or don't have split hooves (The pig has split hooves but doesn't chew its cud like cows/goats etc). These laws were re-introduced with some exceptions: The Camel!! (It chews its cud but has DOES NOT have split hooves! Mohammed couldn't prohibit this as he was "mab'oos - ed" in Arabia afterall! So the poor camel had it!

Other original prohibitions like "not to cook a kid in its mother's milk" etc were again non-practical in arabia as that was common custom as well. In fact, at the very first declaration of his prophecy, Mohammed entertained the tribesmen of Mecca with milk and dried meat.

Yaar I love shrimps though not prawns. In shrimps there's a thick vein in the middle full of shit - which if extracted cleanly with no remains makes it non-makrooh. I'm always careful to pull that out alongwith all the surrounding tissue.

Sorry; I was about to say that Shellfish was also prohibited and so was "hind-quarter" meat of animals. Seems like a lot of waste; we are still waiting anything scientific though; Common Cheemay...what non-sense! we are dealing with "faith" here not common sense!
