Only today an oil tanker carrying fuel for western army was attacked in Landi kotal. Such attacks are not prevalent, as they should have been because I have a feeling that both GOP and westerners pay hefty amount to the tribes that live around the highway in exchange for a protected right of passage. Perhaps Pavo could shed light on this. If you remember when Friendship tunnel was captured by taliban a couple of months ago, the traffic headed towards afghansitan was jammed for couple of hundered miles.

Hamidm Sahib:
You hold very low opinion (may be higher than horrible hindoos) of people from Afghanistan and that region, but, I do not understand why do you think this way.
After all those genes and locals produced brains like Panini, builders of Bamiyan Buddha and creators of other fine masterpieces of all times. There indeed must have been a time, when intellectual and cultural work must have come to Indian mainland from there too.
All time greats like Panini and builder of Bamiyan cannot happen in isolation, without tolerance and in the absence of pluralism.
Why is it that even the glorious part of Islamic period missed them?
This intrigue if very intererting to me these days. I would love any assistance or sources you can point out that I can read and research. Although, I may not visit in such times though.

Girls’ school building destroyed
By Our Correspondent
DARRA ADAMKHEL, March 17: Militants blew up the building of a girls’ high school in Akhurwal area of Darra Adamkhel on Sunday night.
Local people said the explosion completely destroyed the nine-room building.
They said the school administration had earlier received letters warning them to close the institution.
Handbills purportedly distributed by local militants two days ago again warned women to stop going to schools and join seminaries.
They also said that gunmen had resurfaced and increased their activities despite the presence of hundreds of army and paramilitary troops in the area.
They said the army had taken positions on hilltops and paramilitary troops were patrolling the Indus Highway only during the daytime leaving the people at the mercy of militants at night.
The militants have destroyed three security posts and a government school building over the past three days.

Re: # 103
Dear Deluded Talibanist
Sitting comfortably in your plush home preaching death and destruction for others, how would they phrase that..Munafiqat Ul Azam.
Not only would Pakistanis suffer tremendously with economic sanctions imposed from the "free" world this time there will be no Saudi bailouts cause they themselves would be trying to save their big ugly backside.
More importantly, it would provide NATO and other countries the right to intervene through force and like I have said many many times, this time it will not be pretty. You can dream about the warrior Waziri, have your once in a century victory but that will not stop the juggernaut of invasion.
Probably, that is what Pakistan needs.... a lesson in military occupation, only this time it will be at the receiving end.

The Afghan situation has to be viewed from a vantage point. In Pakistan since the leadership was in hands of a general from a minority , he in order to woo crooks NAB zada politicians from the majority Punjab province and to sustain the Facist Karachi mafia guys utilised all anti terror aid for non Pashtun areas , mostly Karachi and Punjab. This aid should have gone to the Pashtuns and to NWFP and Balochistan. This did not happen.
The second problem with Pakistan's tinpot generals and the crooks from Punjab,Sindh,Balochistan and some disgraceful Pashtuns all combined and known as Quisling League ,Patriots (an insult of patriots actually) and S PPP is that they are not happy that now the US base is Afghanistan and this in turn is creating some prosperity in Afghanistan. These crooks wanted that the ISI and the tinpot despicable guys control this US aid, like so called silent soldiers and syphon it to bank accounts in overseas banks. All the so called crore commanders. The army Hussain Haqqani mistakenly thinks is for Jihad. The generals are for money. They have nothing to do with Islam and Jihad.Thats why I am happy that they are now thoroughly discredited.I thank Allah for this.A Peoples Army is needed .Not the one that established DHA and deals in real estate.Like all the Zarar Zameens or those tete a tete with owner of Bahria Town.
Tailpiece:-- I was told by a senior officer that one general we thought was very upright was gifted a 20 Million Rupees house by Malik Riaz owner of Bahria Town, because this general gave prize army camping land in between his Bahria sewer schemes to Riaz at dirt cheap rates.
The idea was that Afghanistans relatively peaceful areas and areas in NWFP are used as free zones and everyone from Pakistan,India etc is allowed to invest.
The idea is competition.I will be happy if Mittal of India buys the steel mill in Karachi in open competition. We are unfortunately led by Muslims who are worse than Hindus in integrity .We are for the man , not for his religion or ethnicity.Even Mahmud of Ghaznavi used Hindu soldiers in his army and built places to worship for them in many parts of Afghanistan. The Mughals trusted Jai Singh with Afghanistan's governorship as Kabul was then called.

#139 Posted by pavocavalry,
A good clarification of what you've said in the article.
Re the Generals and the Bahria Town nexus, the most amazingly brazen example is the Sheraton Hotel complex built opposite the Corps (Crore?) Commanders house in Lahore Cantt. After this excellent building was completed, the military canceled the NOC, paid the owners some compensation, and sold the entire building to Malik Riaz who converted it to ultra-luxury apartments. Each of the penthouses was gifted to the top Generals.

In the short term and medium term Pakistan has benefitted from US occupation of Afghanistan.
On the other hand the way Paki generals have handled Pashtun areas with indiscriminate force has destabilised the situation and if this mishandling continues, the USA will have no choice but to deal militarily with Pakistan.
The Paki generals have all along used the Pashtuns as tools in a dirty policy laced and garbed with slogans of Jihad. What happened was neither Jihad nor a Holy war but the extension of armys institutional interest in which about 500 to 800 senior officers were the beneficiary.
Now the Pakistani masses know that the army was for money and not for Jihad , thsu all the bombings and knocking out of that surgeon general.
Its a dangerous situation. If Pakistan is lost the army will still be the mercenary of the Americans and Hindus just like most of the Punjab chiefs less some Pashtun Punjabis from Kasur and Multan were collaborators of Sikhs.
