I found this quite amusing;"rather than calling it a play they call it a ‘workout’.Also you wrote ‘’I have met a number of competitive players in my practice, who, either become anorexic, got addicted to drugs or experienced family breakdowns as they could not keep a balance between their personal, professional and family lives.’’
Such big dream dreamers, and when something goes wrong, then nightmares. What no mention of Freud, and the couch, when there is so much talk of psyche and the dreams? To the variety of patients frequenting the psychotherapists clinics I see now, the competitive players! With the olympics attracting focus of attention, i was into thinking of the sport psychologist being with the team of competitive players, along with his colleagues the sport doctor and coach!.So not to forget the psychotherapist’ s clinic is the place where his clients come to him, at least when they come back from China, that is the olympic China.Such an increasing variety of patients. One feels such a variety of patients ought to have the right to choose their own psychotherapists, chiefly from the point of view of the psychotherapeutic approach which would suit them.I remember the case of a girl, who was dreading (suicidal; imagine if one attempts to commit suicide just to avoid a visit to of all the folk, the psychotherapist!!!!) a visit to the psychotherapist. The family liked him, he believed in dynamic therapy. The (educated)girl just wanted someone who would help her sort out her feelings and thoughts. With her family it was just that they would not listen to what she had to say, they had no time for her.Their lifestyle was busy, she had no solitude, no time to think things out.Besides being a large family, there was not much privacy around especially in bedrooms.Reckon girl athletes would want to exercise more choice!.I know of a number of people who like the old fashioned couch therapy.
Eclectic clinics would be, i feel the ideal answer. The other day i came across this,Silver medallists at the olympics seem to perform what psychologists call an upward counterfactual-they compare themselves against someone better off than them.Bronze medallists seem to perform downward counterfactuals-they tend to compare themselves with people who did worse.)So since anxiety belongs to almost everybody, such a clinic would do well to rent out a floor to deep relaxation teknics-aroma therapy, color therapy, soothing sound and “quiet therapy.Even hypnotherapy. And all the therapies that go round the main principle of “meditation.A beauty clinc, which makes a person look good, with a nice make-up and a becoming hairstyle-add to the effectiveness of psychotherapy, I feel. And maybe-a room for a “playout(to remove anxiety from a workout??).

Dear Mr Masadi, I never advocated censorship of your articles. It is between you and the editorial board. I have great respect for Eastern poets and mystics whether Sheikh Saadi, Kabir das, Bulley shah.or Faiz Ahned faiz who were against religious and political oppression and injustices
..sincerely sohail

By the way, I do not call you Dr. because I do not consider you one. Degrees mean nothing when you share your mentality with that of a Halwa vendor in a Gujranwala market, whose self indulgence has blocked the blood supply to his brain thereby affecting his grasp of reality....

Have a good day,

TNI masadi

Sohail,

You should be ashamed of yourself for what your friend Gill and you are doing to this site. Your understanding of your own field of shrinkery is colored through the lens of white man worship, which tells me that you are furthest from being a literary figure on this site than anyone else, except for maybe your friend Mr. Gill...Literary competition does not mean you actively advocate the censorship of my articles, you are a disservice to all things civilized and a disgrace to human literary endeavours.

Have a nice day,

TNI Masadi

There are many Hindi movies that are plagarised from Hollywood, they are all glossy and no substance. Hey but no one is putting a gun to your head. Simply avoid them.

Forgive me, Dr. Sohail, I deviate, but we are tired.

#Satya,

What!', Swamiji replied, `Rise at the expense of another! I did not come to earth for that!'

Amazing quote. I wish you could tell the Indian Film Community as well -- though I do enjoy the dances of Ashwariya and Rani, they rock. Fun Women. But -- does every movie from your country HAVE to be a copy of an American Movie we saw...errrr...just last year??
In the nearest language, it always works.

Sorry to interrupt the beautiful gathering here, Dr. Sohail, thank you for the explanation, I didn't know that about psychology's past. I've been meaning to read "Ode to Psyche" by Keats, and I will get back to you about it. Perhaps we can find some interesting avenues and similarities. Its always fun.
---

I once attended, an Indian (forgive me I can't recall what the name was..ah yes..'art of living' with breathing excercizes...) something...some guy there had 'discovered' how to do breathing exercises and get rid of depression. He claimed he was a police-officer, and because of these 'breathing exercises' he had given up his profession, and felt much more ''peaceful' now -- so his English wife, .who was very affected by the Guru's breathing techniques...lol..sorry
accompanied him..and they taught these.

What i saw with the people, was that they were losing their bright alert connectivity to life...it was strange. He was a nice guy, and in a competition they had, which was all 60s love is in the air talk, I won a nice book about all this.

I never attempted it again. I just liked the place the retreat was at, and it was fun to look at the stars out in that distance, and that cured half the ailment of the situation.

I like what the Sufi Mystic, says in "Meetings with Remarkable Men," when the man comes seeking the 'right exercise' --

he says, we damage more with exercises than do good,
"stop all exercise."

-------
I really admire Peter Brook's direction of this movie, also his work on "Mahabharata" is beyond all doubt, masterful.
In the nearest language, it always works.

point is read with open mind and get the best you can get. i am assuming you lived in the subcontinent. some distant rascal ruskin is better for you than local rajneesh because of dhimmi/anglophile attitude. u should treat yourself first. ask your self, do you know rajneesh personally. i also do not. but his commentaries make sense. so also anandmurthi sarkar's . dont go by western/evanjihadist propaganda.

btw rajneesh was jaina the second smallest minority in India.

btw many practioners like u are opening up and learning to Indian Manas Shastra. There are more than 100 at any given time in different ashramas and more scientific institutions in Himalayas and in places like wester maharashtra and kerala. you will see in next decade years your profession will change drastically. as

Khalid,

I do not have time at hand to get in discussion but you ca google on Patanjali Yoga Sutra, Osho's pdf file on Upanishad which is a English transcriot of his Hindi talk. Osho refers to Jung & Freud and that will give you a good perspective.

I was more interested in how mind needs to be prepared for excellence in any field be it track or trading on wall street. India will start getting golds as it becomes more and more affluent. It will start with mind/focus related golds and then graduate to bodily strength, stamina and endurance.

This interesting anecdotes from Swami Vivekananda's life:
In America, Swamiji was watching some boys. They were standing on the bridge trying to shoot at egg-shells that were floating on the river, but they always missed the target. Swamiji took the gun and aimed at the shells. He fired twelve times and every time he hit an egg-shell. The boys asked Swamiji: 'Well Mister, how did you do it?' Swamiji said ' Whatever you are doing, put your whole mind on it. If you are shooting, your mind should be only on the target. Then you will never miss. If you are learning your lessons, think only of the lesson. In my country boys are taught to do this.

Rise at the expense of another ?

Swamiji became well-known in America. Once he was given a rousing reception at a railway station as he got down from the train. A Negro porter went forward to shake hands with him saying: `Congratualations! I am extremly delighted that a man of my race has attained such great honour! The entire Negro community in this country feels proud of you!' Swamiji eagerly shook hands with the porter and said warmly, `Thank you, brother!' He refused to deny he was a Negro.

Swamiji was insulted, humiliated and refused entry into many hotels in the South an suspicion that he was a Negro. But he never protested or explained that he was an Indian. A Western disciple once asked him why he did not tell them he was from India in such situations. `What!', Swamiji replied, `Rise at the expense of another! I did not come to earth for that!'
