KHYBER,
I would absolutly say the same thing. I am not affiliated with any party what so ever....It is a very difficult task to choose a party in Pakistan. It is a feudal society and the people of Pakistan tend to bring themselves down and in return they get shit governments.

What I don't understand about the whole democratic process in Pakistan is that it runs against the rule of law and democracy itself. You have a president who is a well known thug and corrupt crook. It is an embarrassing state of mind when you look at the prime minister who was also jailed and on top of that can’t blanking answer a simple question from an American media person during his visit to the USA. Can we choose a more pathetic leader? It really doesn't matter whether the charges are proved against them or NOT. The fact of the matter is that Zardari who was a villain yesterday will always be a hero tomorrow to someone else. But who is getting their ass kicked in all of this political drama....The PEOPLE of Pakistan is at stake of course.
Zardari, who is supposedly innocent according to the law and the constitution but if he works according to the law and the constitution and reinstate judges, he won't be an innocent man anymore. The fact is that he has never done any good to the country. Pakistan has always been run by either a bunch of thugs or religious fanatics and no one has ever cared about building a prosperous and moderate, literate society.
I am afraid that there isn't a hell worse enough for Zardari to go to. He builds his castles from the hard earned money of the public. He conducts himself in repugnant piety all his life and then he becomes a president....How pathetic are we as a nation to let that crap slide????????????????????????????????????????

correction to #52 the issue of the rule of law being the fundamental issue.

#52 khyber: Where did i say that NS is a man of principles? What I am saying is you need to move beyond issuing "character certificates" (or rather "bad character certificates") to politicians and look at their stand on key issues - the issue of the rule of law being one.
You dont have to reply to this. Just think about it.

I have not read all the posts here except # 53 and of course the article. I always had much misgiving about Zardari's caliber, competence and so on. However, watching him play the politics dexterously to unseat Musharraf and his conciliatory approach towards others (showing him as an acute statesman) I am changing my views.
This extremely well written article and KHYBER's elaboration (#53) along with Zardari's recent statements showing his attitude towards neighbouring countries is making me hopeful that after all the change may bode well for Pakistan. I wish it is true. I look forward to reading more articles of Beena Sarwar.

The Prejudices Pakistan’s New President Faces,by Beena is a nice and to the point article,Truth is always bitter thats why some hypocrite take it in a negative sense.Asif Zardari is the hangman, the fall guy, responsible for everything, including bad weather, bad times and bad everything. He is presented variously as the feudal lord, as the man who breaks promises, and now the two that I find quite below the belt are, the stories of his supposed mental illness and an informal reference to Zalmay Khalilzad, America’s ambassador to the UN.First, no one can deny the fact that Asif Zardari knows his politics, and knows it well. His politics is logical, often cold-hearted but pragmatic to the core.Politics and morality are not the same thing. Politics is not religion nor is it a moral code. It is the art and the science of reaching, keeping and sustaining power. It is a system of making, or breaking alliances, for the common cause.Zardari knows his politics, and he also knows how political tactics can make dictators melt away, and turn fortunes around, can bring together parties that formerly never saw eye to eye.The prison period perhaps was the place where Zardari trained in political strategy and planning. The ideas for reconciliation with Nawaz Sharif took root then, as did the method to appease the BalochTalking of principles, Zardari has proved loyal to the party and steadfast as well. Talking further of principles, here is a person who despite his eleven years in prison, has not pursued politics of revenge, here is a man who stood by his wife, and her politics, agreed to be her second in a society where it is not the done thing. So where is the feudal? If this is the man who has used helped us overcome the grief and tragedy of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, and if he has used political means to get us rid of the most detested and dangerous man in Pakistan’s recent history, and then brought together Mohajirs and Sindhis, Balochis and Punjabis, and work to heal the wounds of the Pushtoons, isn’t he the most important symbol of the federation?Who is afraid of Asif Ali Zardari… I tell you it is the haute bourgeoisie from the region between Okara and Attock led by Nawaz Sharif and his minions.
Till a decade ago they were the blue-eyed boys of the establishment…. now fate has put them on side of the Lawyers’ Movement. But their core is extreme right wing conservative.Nawaz money hungry greedy scum bag even did not hesitate to take money from world famous terrorist Osama.
Asif Ali Zardari may not be perfect but he enjoys the backing of 3.5 provinces. Today the federation is strong because of him.Nawaz and his cronies ask their followers for sacrifice but Nawaz and LUHAR company was afriad of death and ran out of country,When someone is disturbed by the word Shaheed for Benazir Bhutto or His Shaheed father…he definitely would have reserved it for the Zia,Nawaz Spiritual father….whom he had promised to accomplish his mission…and what was his mission…Great Jihad under the command of Charlie Wilson…to destabilize the region…all those who are killed for the cause of world powers…are DECLARED SHAHEED…. Ahmad Faraz has rightly commented on ZIA murder as…ab samaj aya ye shair…k Shaheed ki jo maut hai wo Qaum ki Hayat hai.

#50 "lets not forget that the passports thousands of Pakis use now was permitted by Z A BHUTTO,before only Paki elite had right to get passport"
i never heard even his most loyal supporters credit ZAB with this one. and the fact is that ordinary pakistanis were getting passports from day 1, if for no other reason than to perform hajj. in addition, the mass migration from mirpur started before ZAB as a result of UK offering to accommodate villagers whose homes were going to come under water.
So stop making up your own facts while ignoring those i provided you earlier. Then I will stop calling you a dud.

Some people like Massai and Tahmad32 love to jump to their guns without understanding theme of any topic or comment, lets not forget that the passports thousands of Pakis use now was permitted by Z A BHUTTO,before only Paki elite had right to get passport, how someone can be a proud pakistani now,a country after over 60 years is still likestone age, where people are killing women and burying then alive because they choose their life partner,a country which is a failed state,a country where police, judiciary and army is corrupt.I hate to say but the fact is PUNJABIS are narrow minded and they dont tolerate politicians from other provinces,DUDS like TAHMED think NAWAZ is man of principles because he stood against Mush, where were his priciples when he licked GEN ZIA shoes,he dislikes MUSH because he kicked him out,if he had any principles and a great leader he would not betray his followers and ran out of country.I respect everyone opinion here and love BEENA'S articles because she is always to the point and very straightforward and I respect tahmed opinion as he has right to experess himself like everyone elsebut I request you to talk like a educated person not street person by calling names, because I can say alot of things too.

Khyber writes "I am not Pakistani,"
Tahmed sahib, he is a wannabe American like your kind self, so why do you blame him for "thinking" that the passport he carries entitles him "structural assimilation" into US civic society, not realizing that such has not happened because he is not white, and will never happen. He will remain a Pakistani at the end of the day, no matter how much he denies it, US born or not...
Have a nice day,

First of I don't have any faith in corrupt and ignorant Paki Politicians and I dont have to vote for em cause I am not Pakistani,secondly.... Nawaz Sharif has never learnt any lesson from the history. To fight with someone is his nature and because of his this attitude the nation has suffered a lot. I advise him to be open-minded and think about the country as well, at least at this junctureTo be open minded - again the mind has to be there! He seems to believe that hair (artificial!) help increase thinking!! Spending so much time among those brainless, oil rich, folks has blurred his vision even moreNawaz is of the same breed, the same corrupt politicians era and he is not different from others. “Mr Sharif Businessman turned politician the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was ousted in a military coup in 1999 and was forced to forfeit $9million dollars and some of his assets including his $5m Mansion is Raiwind near Lahore. Before becoming PM he was a major share holder along with his brother and cousins of Ittefaq Group, having assets well in excess of £50m in the 90’s. However he got richer when he took commissions from foreign companies for construction in Pakistan. He build the first motor way and many new roads and took heavy kickbacks. He then also stole $100m from the Iqra funds, he started a new scheme “Ghar Apna in which he again looted around $40m, the “Mulk swaaro scheme involving public & govt. money collections to help pay Pakistan’s debts also was pocketed. There are reports that Nawaz took millions from OSAMA BIN LADEN to fight election against Benaz ir in 90’s.Technically and legally speaking Nawaz should face death penalty for hijacking the plane of the then ARMY CHIEF MUSH,as it is a paki law for hijackers,Mush boy made a big mistake for not killing all these ploiticians when he took over, only a true REVOLUTION will develop pakistan, you need to get rid ofall these corrupt politicians.
