Good morning:
Could it be that Military / ISI / establishment and general public are wary of USA’s plans in the region? Do a survey yourself and you will find out that majority of Pakistanis believe that the USA’s war on terror is nothing but a ploy to destabilize and eventually defang a “nuclear Islamic power. Previously only discussed on the streets by general public, this thought is now being discussed in the print and electronic media.
Under current circumstances, If USA assaults FATA; ISI has enough resources available to it to take the war into Afghanistan. If USA decides to bring in India, ISI has enough resources to take the war into India (through its Jihadis), unless, of course, Uncle SAM goes for the big kill. The neo-Cons of Republican Party, with Bible in one hand and M16 in the other, are fully competent of creating an attack on American soil, blame it on Pakistan and go for a full attack (be warned through this post :-)). In this scenario, the nuclear capability and infrastructure of Pakistan will be destroyed, but Jihadis / terrorists will become totally independent wreaking more havoc in the entire region.
Instead of blaming ISI for all the evils, we should (1) continue to fight out of control Jihadi groups (and that we are doing in FATA and Swat), (2) take on a diplomatic mission to the powers that be trying to convince that USA’s plan is misguided (and that we are doing now through military backed Zardari), (3) go for development in FATA as soon as terrorists are wiped out.

thought provoking article ......the ISI is basically army because most of the strength is from the army....the organisation was involved in covert operations from 1960s ......its an extension of the army so when you say it has failed the army has failed....basically the use of religion for political purposes has misfired...and this misuse started from 1858 ........more sad is the use of Pashtuns as cannon fodder in the Afghan mercenary war since 1978......this also has badly misfired.....the Pashtun is a radiacal by nature...either a hardline leftist Khalqi or a Talib and they are great in both roles....after all they were the central elements in the Saur Revolution of 1978....and now the Taliban movement .......both are disturbing for the punjabi establishment in pakistan......Pakistan has been destabilised now for sure....and we dont see any strategic talent in both civilians and soldiers...the army promotions are based on district and village nets.....the civil service has been devalued....the politicians are notoriously corrupt....all signs of a failed state.......an undoubted failure

Torwali baba,
Of course, they were agencies, but tell me another thing. Why an average pathan dream is in following order:
1. Get admission in medical or engineering after 10+2 on FATA seats.
2. If 1 can't be achieved because of not ever reaching to 10 + 2 then start transport business.
3. If 2 is also not possible, then will sell white powder.
4. If 3 is also not possible then become Jihadi.

But the author does not mention any about the principle axis of evil of should that be called the Axel rods of evil i.e. the oil and the pipeline, perhaps ISI is too naive to have thought of that aspect to all this disturbance.
