Mr NFP, let me bring your attention to the following paragraph of your article

"This leads to a rather potent point: Many of the political and religious TV shows anchored by hosts who hold masqueraded sympathies for Islamists, and TV shows in which televangelists passionately give Western countries a convoluted verbal bashing, some even calling them "economic terrorists" … ever notice how each one of these shows are punctuated by a gazillion commercial breaks, all stuffed with commercials of brands made by western multinationals?

I mean, if, say, Hamid Mir or Zaid Hamid, are always so incensed by "western interference" and "influence" and so sympathetic towards those "fighting a war against the West", how can they allow their shows to be sponsored by western multinationals?"

Mr. paracha, if I remember correctly, you have bashed Junoon for selling out to corporate interests while writing jingles for corporates yourself..add to it your hypocritical claims of being a socialist...
What is more hypocritical? a religous person bashing west and allowing his show to be sponsored by western multinationals, or a socialist actually writing advertisements for western corporates....
You are a hollow person yourself...... and so are these religous fundos.....the only difference between them and you is that you lie at the other end of political spectrum....

i,e, can someone give evidence that links his statements to someone murder directly like did he say," Go and kill XYZ".
If not, you cannot hold him responsible for what another idiot does--and i speak as someone who is not a fan of his!

i' m not a big fan of aamer liaquat --he overacts and is a drama queen on his show--but he is definitely not a funda wahabi by any stretch of the imagination.

his show promotes traditional sunni-sufi islam from a theological POV although there are internet rumours that he is actually a Rafidite.

Allah wa Rasuluhu Aalam.
I dont think he did incite anyone to murder anybody. if so, what is the proof?

hamz as much as i accept that one killer is just as guilty as the next regardless of ideology....fact is that the religious brand of bandits are certainly wreaking a degree of devastation that is unparalleled in pakistans history.

Sure we have always had criminals and antistate loons and terrorists (pretty apt term for some MQM workers) but the magnitude of the problem just isnt comparable.

Against that backdrop we have to prioritise our condemnation. Religious loons first ... everyone else including NFP after that.

Vaise i also think that most people are genuinely sad about the civilian casualities in the north and noone gets called a fundo for shedding tears for them.

But maybe as a society we need to learn to not confuse sympathy with the oppressed for justification for what is now clearly the OPPRESSOR.

Fundo to me is when someone uses any pretext - even a sympathetic one - to let criminals/terrorists/oppressors off the hook or justify their crimes against innocent people ...or even equate it to another problem of a much lesser magnitude.

All the points you have made for e.g are reasonable and so long as people dont mention them in a context that deliberately exonerrates the terrorists (current ones) im totally fine with that and im sure most people are.

n its not something inherent in 'secular' that makes them less violent....i can list u examples from the history of pakistan as well as the world if u like...reactive violence can not be tied down to an ideology...its the pain n revenge that drives it. i am eye witness to some of the most horrific things done to human bodies by the enlightened n civilized rocket scientist of psf n apmso ...so althought islamist fundoo is a sexy term...it has very lil to do with isalm everything to do with the evil, revenge that is instinctive of ALL human beings..it just gets triggered when v r pushed to our breaking point

it was equatable in 90's u forget that mqm was considered just as bad as taleban from establishment's perspective. The thing with army establishment is that they need an enemy to fight..so they keep creating monsters n keep using them according to the climate and fashion of the season. ppl who r blowing up civilians must be dealt with no doubt...

but just because someone sheds a tear on 300,000 refugess or inncent women n children being blown away as collateral damage shouldnt become a fundo by default. if u think hamid mir is a fundoo than i m sorry u r just a close minded person..we can have difference of opinion without labeling each traitors. nfp is usally bitter n pissy against everyone who has a better career than him.

wat i do find funny is aamir liaquat is just as annoying as he was couple of years ago when he had mushy's balls in his mouth...n we were all saying this guy is a fake n wouldnt know islam if it smacked him in his face but all u enlightened were in an awe like he was a mujadid or somethin...ahh how quickly things change once there is a memo from 90

hamzoo im not going to disagree with those principles, but i will put them in order of priority.

To move on to a more succesful state we do have to weed out extremist fundos from the streets and airwaves first. Next step - civilize the vigilantes.

We can talk about secular vs religious extremists in theory but the truth is Pakistan doesnt have secular suiciders or truck bombers blowing up its infrastructure so they are not equatable.

bibi ..keeping street clean from islamic or secular fundoo is the responsibility of the state..when private armies start to do the bidding, than whether its the sector incharges or the commander mehsood than eventually shit hits the fan...i respect the mandate of mqm although i dont agree with there politics of zero principles...but i dont support vigilante justice thru unit incharges ANYWHERE

hamzoo though you have a point the more imp. point is that someone has to stand upto fundos or people who look fundo or people who sound fundo.

Since karachi has repeatedly democratically elected a bunch of ghundas we have every right to expect these ghunda's to keep the streets clean of those other ghundas - who we NEVER VOTED for.

Now you being the proponent of democracy should know that :)

abbayy jaahilloon hamid mir never claimed to be a socialist, marxist, or a surqa. he disagrees with american foreign policy and so does 73% american citizens. NFP on the other hand is the self-proclaimed cheguavara, hugo chavez, stalin all rolled in one.....his hard-on for american estab. all of a sudden just because they r killing muslims however is quite rich.

The media in Pakistan and in much of the neighborhood is a system of tools and propaganda much of it to appease the conventional wisdom and exploit the poor and often brainless, senseless 'naazirin e karaam'

Good job NFP

I partially enjoyed and agreed regarding state of media evangelist and media cooperations.
But I am bit disappointed, high expectations and no way this is improvement.

It's always been great reading Paracha. No matter what, he never let's go. This is a highly timely article and accurately describes the state of the media in Pakistan and how with their jihadi anchors and blind preachers they are trying to create nothing but even more havoc.

And yes, I agree, how come if men like Hamid Mir and Ziad Hamid are so ticked off with the west, they let their shows be sponsored by western multinationals?
Kudos, NFP.

This brings to my attention, that i watched a programme on a second rated tv channel (can't remeber the name, one of those AAJ type channels). There was an Adnan Sami look a like gorafied cum desi wannabe hosting the show along with a man who had some rather strange gestures when talking. Mr. Paracha was also one of the participant of this copied prgramme from the BBC. Mr. Paracha has been a big critic of pirated music and stolen ideas all his life. How come you managed to appear in such a pirated talk show. As you are being so critical of all these talk shows. How would you rate that show?

Guess all the maulvis are same. Whatever you do yourself is halal, any one else does it, then it becomes haram!
