we need to zoom out to have a clearer perspective.

Taliban are a pain to Pakistan. And thanks to the Sulfi Alqaida ideology, they also harbour grand dreams like establishing the earliest version of Islam in Pakistan & Beyond. Pakistan is only the first hurdle like for all those Invaders from North West into South Asia.

America is in Afghanistan for purely economic & influence reasons. The flimsy excuse given is catching of the some outlaws who threaten it from 6000 miles away. It wants to place itself close to China & India for ulterior motives. Also remember Iran is the third biggest producer of Oil after Saudi Arabia & Iraq - both under firm US control. (& US is dead duck without Oil)

Both the Taliban & Americans are too close for comfort & are unwanted by all Regional States - Pakistan, India, Iran, China & even Uzbekistan.

The threat is to the Region & the Regional countries should collectively perceive the threat & encounter it.

I liked Zardari's Statement when he talked about `the Regional Approach' towards this newest threat to South Asia.
