Wajahat...

If USA citizens disapproves a moslem to be their President, is it very unreasonable? forget about electing president, you 7th century beduine followers, make other's life miserable, whenever your number crosses 45%....(Indonesia, Malayasia, Pakistan, Egypt, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and now Iraq... forget about minimum right as citizen, non moslems are fleeing from these countries just to escape islamic barbarism...your native, pakiland enforces shariat, huddood, blashphemy etc...). and US should allow such un-civilised creatures to adorn it's highest office!!! whatever civic sense you learned in USA, better implement that in your native place (at least repeal 7th century beduinism like shariat, blashphemy law etc...) rather than preaching to USA...US (and most of the democratic societies) is far better place than your promised land, The Pakiland....

The article cites a trend not just here in the US but around the world. Anti-muslim sentiment has exsited in south ssia for centuries in the context of the hindu/muslim divide. But now such sentiment is spreading throughout the world. You see it in Europe, Australia, Canada, the US, Russia, and now China. One wonders if muslims will be the pariahs of the world, unwanted everywhere.

Muslim Americans
American history of campaigns is full of ‘negative’ strategies during elections, for as opposed to the Olympic motto the un-ashamed urge of all candidates is to WIN . Obama’s multifaceted and colorful background, at this late stage of election is the softest target and it should not be a surprise to anybody that the Republicans have resorted to cash on it. Had the shoe been on the other foot, the Democrats would have no doubt made Mc Caine’s age as an issue or dug up some thing jucy on Sarah Pailin.
However it must be acknowledged that American society in general has come a long way in this respect that besides every thing else, an Afro-American (of suspected religiosity at that), a couple of white women and a white Old man has made it so far in the race for the highest office in the land.
Had Mc Caine chosen an Afro-American, say Collin Powel or Condolisa Rice and had Obama been a black Jew, it would have been indeed more interesting!
How ever many Americans would appreciate the fact that Obama is using the right sweet words for Israel and quite the opposite for Iran, hence the overwhelming financial support of the Zionists for him. And that matters a lot in that country’s politics.

How low can you go Joe Blow! McChain's pipelines were laid below frost line, and you can imagine Payless's pipelines being under arctic freeze round the year.
May be you are seeking a job at the Alaskan Pipeline, Joe Blow.

The introduction of Joe the Plumber is an evidence of either McBain or Payless experiencing serious plumbing problems in order to seek the professional and expert assistance of Joe Blow.

Since Washington DC was overtaken by unknown type of Bushes that have grown wildly over the last 8 years remain untrimmed and ungroomed and specially after the 9/11 although these are known to be Bushes they act like poison ivy, these Bushes have appended the dictionary and added the term "terrorist" as a synonym to "Muslim".
These Bushes now use the terms Terrorist & Muslim alternatively subject to their convenience.

Re: # 1
Kul jee
Like you say ignorance is the worst thing and I absolutely agree with you, however make a note that more than 80% of those Jamals that you mention rotting in Jail are not Muslims, do not enter the prison or are incarcerated when they are Muslims, however more than 50% of those non-Muslim Jamals at the time of their departure from the prison system have embraced Islam and become exemplary Muslims when they are out in the free, subhanAllah.

Dear Wajahat, nicely written, however, I take issue with your closing:

“Sadly, the Republicans have lost sight of this sentiment. However, twelve years ago the United States, which includes Republicans, Democrats and Independents, took pride in bestowing the prestigious honor of lighting the Olympic Flame to a national symbol of strength and defiance.

He has an Arab name.

He is Muhammad Ali.

He is an American.

And a Muslim.

Americans didn’t take pride in the fact that Mohammad Ali was a Muslim or an American or for his name, they took pride because he is the greatest in spite of his name and all. Secondly, the decision for lighting the torch is made by the US Olympics committee, made up of a few athletes.

Ignorance can’t be answered by being on the defensive, and if McCain had said something along these lines to that old lady, “No he is not an Arab, but a child of a Kenyan father and a white Kansas mother, hence a coconut, that I would like to bang on your empty head. Powell’s cocology about how there are Muslim soldiers in the Army and other garbage is that something everyone knows. US Ambassador to the UN is a Muslim, an immigrant, but a grad-A moron, someone who is against disarmament treaties. For every one Mohammad Ali, there are 80 Jamals rotting in prisons on drug related charges. Those are the ones that require attention through job creation and education, and not rhetorical and common sense garbage delivered by Powell.

Having said that, I concur with most of the points you have raised.
