To get back to the main issue I repeat part of my interact no 85.

I re emphasise that it is in the coils of the bureaucratic regulations itself that corruption thrives

This continuing sanctitity of laws also begs the question of why we need legislators at all. Most of the laws concerning social, moral, commercial or cultural issues are already in place and the enactment of new laws really only add to the confusion. Perhaps the time has come to disband all Parliaments and local legistative bodies and have one universal system of laws with just a small appendix to cover the religious, cultural and social issues of a particular country or region

Banish the thought that the fastest growing industry in India today is IT/BPO. That numero uno position belongs to the sky-rocketting divorce industry - already said to be worth some 10000 crores ( unaccounted ). Most of the brunt of this 'growing' industry - from lawyer cuts, to police blackmail, 'alimony', and lost livelihoods - is borne by middle class, young, MALES.

Here is the hard reality - while the accounting scam at Satyam has got notoriety, NO attention is given to the male rights scam at the heart of employment policy in the highly paying BPO/IT industry. Upto 80% new recruits ( unofficially ), here are WOMEN! While men continue to be employed in the highly risky 'traditionally male' jobs in the armed forces, that do not adequately compensate the risks.

Again, Men are routinely STEREOTYPED in T.V. Advertisements - from soaps, to car insurance, to chips, which all portray the male as the stupid ape, and the female as the one who provides a solution to his stupidity by using the product being advertised. This creates gender roles where women are the smart, cool, sophisticated and innocent gender, and men are the complacent, retarded, pathetic gender.

Still, most males in our country sadly, either refuse to TALK about their domestic troubles, or live in denial. They are discouraged from doing speaking up, though it is known that suicide rates among them is very high. AWARENESS of the anti-male laws and judicial system in India is despicably low since it gets very little print space.

This 'silent' scam needs the attention of the media just as much as the accounting scam, in this regime of corruption.

WAKE UP MALES! WAKE UP!

Re: # 85

muradbaig...yes I understand the reference to Kali might not go down too well with some people...but somewhere someone must call a spade a spade...after all what could be the root causes that in this neck of the woods (the sub-continent) corruption is so rampant...if not within the religious and social prejudices and mores, than where else? Maybe such prejudices give people a certain mindset to make them more corrupt?

Mumbai stocks crash after Computer Company’s fraud Updated at: 1220 PST, Wednesday, January 07, 2009
MUMBAI: The stock market here came crashing following the disclosure of a fraud in an Indian premier Computer Company, which saw the index sinking deep by 700 points to peg at 9650.

According to details, the Computer Company Satyam chief executive had tendered his resignation on the revelation of Rs12.30 billion bungling in the company. Satyam Computer Company had fraudulently posted profit of Rs6 billion. This news today spread like a wild fire among the brokers and small investors, who shunned taking any position and rushed for unloading their over-bought shares, which saw the index reeling down by 700 points.

warding Boucher for what?

This is to express my uttermost disgust at the awarding of Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam to Richard Boucher. People are well aware of the anti-Pakistan role that Boucher and Negroponte have played and awarding one of them a medal instead of condemning their work has irreparably hurt many Pakistanis.

//////////////this must be the final act of surrender to bush by the pakis........giving an award for the man who has humiliated the pakistanis so much.

Murad, is it corruption???

Re: # 81

Goldfinger,I was so glad to read your post to get back on to the track of corruption (80 worst in the world as compared to 120 is nothing to boast about)that I agree is one of the most pernicious diseases afflicting our sub-continent.

But GF you then introduced Kali and I find that she is in danger of starting another long tangent.

Lets try to get to the root of our rampant corruption before we start bashing around our other prejudices.

...and somehow hinduism, with its belief in black magic, showing submissiveness and hitting in the back as in the cult of the thugs...and Kali being a deity of the Hindu religion at whose altar even human sacrifice still thrives in India...could have a great hand in the corrupt practices being practiced today in the sub-continent.

Yaar GF, I still do not get it. If Hinduism's beliefs promote corrupt practices, why is Pakistan, with its 98% Muslim majority population more corrupt than India? Are you saying Kali worshippers have managed to lower corruption in their country, but the folks who hate idol-worship are taking to the ways of the Kali worshippers?

...that is how the absurd and wicked cult of thugs was borne to practice their ways of Thugee in their devotion to Kali...

Yaar GF despite your self-proclaimed atheism, you continue to remain a true Muslim in your visceral hatred of everything Hindu and Indian. Trasparency International (I'm sure you've heard about it) rates India at 80 and Pakistan at 134 out of 180 countries where 1 is least corrupt and 180 is most corrupt. Perhaps Pakis secretly adore and worship Kali even more than Hindus do.

Re: # 78 Murad Baig, I apologise for side tracking from your excellent article on corruption in India...actually corruption could be the biggest blight possible on the fibre of any society, any nation...in a way one could say that in the sub-continent it is something which is imbued almost in the blood of its citizenry...I think it goes way beyond the Mughals, into a time when the people started learning to appease others they considered stronger than themselves, instead of standing up and fighting for their rights and principles...that is how continuously through history a handful of people from far away foreign lands would come and occupy the sub-continent without any problems...that is how the absurd and wicked cult of thugs was borne to practice their ways of Thugee in their devotion to Kali...that is how eventually the Brits came to occupy the sub-continent...and that is how and why the majority of the people now languish in poverty and hopelessness in the sub-continent.
