It is always interesting when people start identifying themselves as "South Asians" and when they are just "Pakistanis" or "Indians".
When one wins a lottery one wants to be by oneself. When we suffer a tragedy like an earthquake or a fire we suddenly become civic minded.

Guru
One doesn't even have to take that route. Fact is, India, Pakistan etc are very different countries with very different set of problems.
Pakistanis/Muslims often tend to use the term "South Asia" as the receptacle of all things bad - related to the "Hindu culture" as it were - away from such good and defensible constructs as Islam and Pakistan.
-----------
So ironically, Akhand Bharatis and Pakistanis/Muslims seem to share a similar approach to the land - they put it all together. One does so in order to show a sort of ownership and personal identity, the other to ascribe all fault and social evil to.

Referring to Indian subcontinent or Akhand Bharat, South Asia is geographically and geologically wrong. Indonesia and Malaysia are South Asia not just being south of equator.
Term south asia is a imperialistic construct of Anglo BA(Hon)s from New England and Univ. of Chicago. For common American it is all India and Hindu.

A guess:
(1) Pakistanis/Muslims use the term 'South Asia' when they don't want to use words Pakistan and Islam - that is, mostly for something bad, undesirable, not to be owned.
(2) Indians/Hindus use it when they they are too blind to see (1).
It will be interesting to see if that guess is mostly true.

-- And the most disgraceful thing for sovereigns is to disdain learning and be ashamed of exploring the sciences. He who does not learn is not wise.
LoL .. Who says people in South Asia do not explore science or utilize it. Dont we have missiles and nuu-klear weapons. Even the despicable mullah who bombs schools spreads his venom on Freuency Modulated airwaves. Talking of contradictions ha h a ...

the article is generally about the traits which generally are needed for effective leadership to have a proper and sound governance system in place...things may seem off the track by mentioning of bush etc...but in recent times, who else would have been the best example of pragmatic, arbitrary and adhoc based leadership and decisions which have played havoc with the lives of millions of people around the world.
moreover, as far as south asian leadership is concerned, though the surface level realities may seem different..but historically the region has gon through the same types of governance systems and even today the factors and actors of the game remain the same, by and large.

One, all the countries of South Asia are not in the same position.
Two, the article just says "all these leaders are bad', but there is nothing by way of explanation. Tell us what is wrong with them, don't just make a blanket statement.
