adityapant: OMG i totally remember watching The Wonder Years on Star Tv. I was soo addicted. It is one of the best shows ever made and if i can EVER get my hands on the complete season, I will pay an arm and a leg for it. SO happy to meet another Wonder Years fan.
Dinastrange: I like you too ;) Would love to add you as a friend on facebook!

I think I like this piece better. It has energy ... you feel its highs and lows, its grimy-ness.

You are a very very gifted writer.

I was also 90s teen ..but in India. Around '91 saw the introduction of cable tv with The Wonder Years etc. You words captured how it was for me. Thank you.

Very interesting. At the end of the day, I enjoyed reading it and that's what counts. As Chalta said, a nice refreshing change from the usual bullcrap. Hope you write more.

Pardesh,

One of my issues with this piece is that it is less about your friend Dario and more about you. Dario doesnt seem to be a real entity, just another thing to reference like a band or a brand name. I don't buy the premise of this piece-Dario was a junkie who never met a drug he didnt like, and your rebellion was defined by blue hair, chastity and drag queen parties. Do you see the difference b/n the kinds of personal rebellions both of you are facing?

When a memoir piece works, it's usually because the writer had changed in a serious way. That writer, rather than claiming s/he is non judgemental, actually confesses her/his implication in this narrative, or the process of her/his grappling with the issue being explored in the piece. Dario is kind of hung out there to dry-drugs, promiscuous gay sex, while you are the voice of reason and balance. The narrator can't even understand Dario's recovery and living with HIV-these are huge, courageous, life altering events and the narrator, a sane, good girl is untouched by it.

Dario's reduced to background, a native in your star turn. Sorry to say, I'm more interested in his story.

Hi Padash,

Did you bother to edit this in the least? It's an interesting story that suffers greatly in the presentation.

Chowk Editors, do you even bother reading what you post on FP anymore, or is everything done by robots?

Padash..

I've never managed to keep in touch with chatting friends. For that matter, I never manage to keep in touch with real friends either. Crazy life this is.
