People go to west that is good , every thing is not gold which glitters. West has men and women slave of work. They may pay better but it appears they make you real work hard. For real Desi this is not acceptable as desi is not born to work for companies. I always felt companies are made here for people like me to have jobs. It is true some times we work , and that is unintensional and accidental.I have heard people in west have to get up in morning at 5AM and drive to work and start work immediately like machine. Here is always better we just reach in time before boss comes and go to tea and two times in bathroom and read there all news from newspapers. When you come back to desk it is almost 10 AM. Then no point in working as soon Lunch time and need some tea time. Then man's mood is upset as that pesty work, fortunately boss leaves then no point i wasting time in work. So comes lunch time aftr eating in heat and humidity of Karachi makes man sleepy specially after munching those heavy pakodas etc. Man needs little sleep otherwse head hits table hard way. You take little nap and then again round of teas. Then its time to work for one hour and slowly getting ready to go home. We have more human attitude and playful attitude towards work and healthy . Once I had discussion with some profane young man ex usa return. He was not pleased by my work , work ethics and workingstyle. He lectured us saying in german they say work hard, work will set you free. And asked us to work hard and it does not hurt any body or no body has died of hard work etc. He asked me my opinion, I told him i agree but can not follw that way he demanded why? I told him sir, we are mortals and we have to take care of family. I know that hard work never hurts or kills, but I do not want to take any chance in such matters. Obviously he did not like that way of thinking. When I was young I wanted to do hard work but elders told me work very hard but keep in mind no body made wealth by making hard work. That had profound effect on my youn mind. We only work two hours and get paid for 8 hours, they make show they are paying for eight hours and we make drama we ae working eight hours. This way unemployment is kept down. If people started working like west one can not imagine but then there will be no work for most , 80% people. I have began to think as people get leaders they deserve same way people do not work hard like west to have employment. In west people get happy on week end after hard work, here we feel miserable on Sunday as office and work place is not as taxing as usa. I think west is fine provided you are ready real 8 hours of work, our system may pay less but will not fire or stress you like west. In work place , west is west, but pakistan is best for working person.( Cricket mach if played in india or pakistan means it is 5 days holidays and if we win over India then we get additional public holiday, amazing way), Good day.

"Good luck with your job hunt, and hope that you will continue to cook and spend time with your family, even when you are employed again."

Nice writeup but a false and unromantic notion of only being able to cook for family or spend time with them when laid off. That’s like the man who start praying 18 times a day after his knees stops working, but in his youth he couldn’t tell a mosque apart from a warehouse. Spending time with family and cooking for them should not be left to the unemployed. As a matter of fact, the spouse should take on additional household chores so that the laid off partner has more times to look for a job.

Good luck with your job hunt, and hope that you will continue to cook and spend time with your family, even when you are employed again.
