in the meanwhile, i read that the nwfp govt. is thinking of giving the taliban jobs in the police and constubalory.......i think that is a good idea....make everyone who militantly rises against the state, a part of the state.......ever since shariah was accepted in swat, there hasn't been a single bombing in islamabad......
Un-f**king-believable!! Never read anything more idiotic. Tomorrow if someone barges into Captain Clueless' home and molests his wife or daughter, I'm sure this moron will give that molester the job of guarding his home.

things seem to really be turning around for pakistan...first the restoration of the judiciary....and now, something even more unbelievable.......
....the pakistan women's cricket team, not only qualified for the women's world cup, it ended up defeating sri lanka and west indies....and is now ranked at no. 5 in the world cup!.....if it beats england, it qualifies for the semi final.....

...the restoration of the cj may cause big problems for the usa......i think one of the reasons he was not being restored was usa's pressure (along with zardari's nro)....
......if everything is returned to nov 2. situation, then the person in the biggest trouble is musharraf......anyone can, then, file an FIR against him for treason....it is an open and shut case, and he will get the death penalty......
.....obviously the usa doesn't want any of its dictators hanged......it has already lost musharraf to the lawyers......and, now, it has lost zardari also.....it could control both of them, as they were dependent on the usa.......it will have more difficulty controlling gilani, and if people like imran khan start coming into power, they will actually openly challenge the usa.....as they have no skeletons in their closet (barring an illegitimate child, or so).........
if musharraf is hanged, hosni of egypt and abdullah of jordan et al, will start getting cold feet.....it will be a clear indication that the usa cannot protect its dictators...pretty soon the usa may have chavez's on its hands everywhere.....
.....the second issue is that of the missing persons......God knows how many have been picked up and handed over to the usa by musharraf.....the deposed cj, actually, was carrying out raids into musharraf's safehouses, trying to find these missing persons.....he was bringing IG police etc. into court to find them.....
....obviously, the usa doesn't want the whole missing person's episode exposed......it has its hands full with guantanemo......
.....so musharraf must be very concerned now......as must be the usa......phone calls are probably being made to nawaz etc. to go easy on musharraf and to not touch the missing persons.......however, some citizen may file a case against musharraf for treason, and against usa for missing persons......
.......lets see what happens......the grip on usa on pakistan society may start to loosen now......zardari was their big civilian hope.......he is down and out......

shankar #: ...the judges have been restored......quite a historic moment for pakistan.....in fact, historic internationally....i don't know of too many, if any, such movement that has occurred anywhere.....
....as someone who has had a front row seat to this event, i have found it quite interesting.....
to answer your question.....if a movement succeeds, there is a vacuum created and who will fill that vacuum.....currently the vacuum has been filled by two civil society groups - lawyers and media.....
....could the taliban fill it......maybe.....they would have to do a lot of work though.....they have no indigenous roots in what is, today, pakistan.....they cannot win an election.....they have no popularity amongst the masses....
however, if the situation continues like SR is suggesting, and they can provide an alternative, they could succeed......
in my opinion, they have no alternative to provide....hence they will not succeed.....they will cause a lot of trouble, though....
pakistan is, slowly, going through political maturity.....power is shifting from the elite (chowk crowd) to the middle class......after which, will it shift to the poor class......let's wait and see...
in the meanwhile, i read that the nwfp govt. is thinking of giving the taliban jobs in the police and constubalory.......i think that is a good idea....make everyone who militantly rises against the state, a part of the state.......ever since shariah was accepted in swat, there hasn't been a single bombing in islamabad......
the next step should be to get out of usa's gwot......

However, there is one way - the only way - that will show that fouj has redeemd itself and that they are repentent of all the crimes they have done against the citizens of Pakistan.... The fouj MUST handover Musharaf to the people of Pakistan. He should be tried for treason and hanged in the courtyard of Lal Masjid for his crimes against humanity.

The Chief Justice Sahib now owe us, Pakistanis, the release of all 16000+ "disappeared" Pakistani citizens from the american outsourced torture cells in pakistan and other lawless countries around the globe. Godspeed Chief Sahib.

anil mian,
.... let's admit it - we made a mistake by kicking out the british before they had had a chance to civilize us ..... they could not even get gandhi to put on clothes and left us in a lurch with half-naked leaders like him ......... you horrible hindoos can do what ever you want, but i want a viceroy from washington as long as he is not paul bremmer ...... democracy does not suit us because we only respect strong and ruthless leaders ......

Hamidm sahib:
"......... like i have said before, we need a good dictator who will make the trains run on time ...."
Has any train ever ran on time since your grandpa gopinath's time?
The reality of India lies in the above question. Now you can believe it to be different in Pakistan. Pakistani army ha been a mutually exclusive constituency, since the first general descided in 1958 (or was it in 1959). The sooner Pakistanis accept it, the better they are, as long the army can be made to come to the table without guns. After all whenever mafia heads meet, they all remove guns before entering. This time, the U.S. has done it, now civilians need to develop unspoken mafioso rule to no guns allowed. Unless you want Viceroy to be appointed by the White House.

tahmed writes "masadi: so..why dont you hand over your next meal to the hungry??? "
Because there are no private solutions to public problems. Your Carnegies and Rockefeller corporations do that just in order to ensure the maintainence of an unjust system in which you privately feed 10 and publicly produce 10 million hungry...

Hamid writes "... stop giving obama credit for actually thinking ...... the man is a smooth talking used car salesman who hoodwinked the nation into voting for him ....."
Make up your mind, does he think enough to hoodwink or not? He did not hoodwink anyone on his own initiative and neither could his smooth talk accomplish anything were he not constructed as "the messiah" by those that have access to the very brains of the vast majority of the American public, the U.S. power elite. This is their game and he is their actor who because he is black was handed the worst job in the country at the present time to keep the masses from rebelling as well as keeping race divisions salient by ensuring people due to his constructed failure view blacks as "used car salesman"....

..... you are giving us pakis too much credit ...... this thing is all a sham and in six months we will have another political or constitutional crisis ......... like i have said before, we need a good dictator who will make the trains run on time .... you can keep this democracy so that your people can continue to squat on the tracks without worrying about the trains ..........
