Re: # 267 bulleya .....the point i am making, or the two points i am making, is that pakistan will never be able to fight the taliban, if the fight is viewed as an american fight......plain and simple.....taliban are hated; americans are hated even more......
This is a classic example of wanting to cut your nose to spite someone elses face.
Fundementally, Pakistanis are not able to recognise their national interest, nor see a threat under their noses. But are very good at seeing threats which are not there.
OTOH, the rent seeking mentality of the elite - short cut to riches - seem to always take over under all circumstances.
As they say you can take the horse to the water but you cannot make it drink

You say you have a lot of friends in the Pak military. What are they saying?

You are wrong when you say that people view this war as US's war only. They know this war is now their war and those who have brought this war into their areas are Talebans and Pakistani army. Armies all over the world do their utmost to keep any war out of their country whereas Musharraf the great commando and the Pakistani army generals deliberately brought this war into Pakistan.
Whenever Pakistani army went into FATA or any other areas of NWFP to fight Talebans they were welcomed by the local people and they even fought along with the army against Talebans. But unfortunately Pakistani army always ended up killing more innocent civilians than Talibans, it always made a peace deal and left the area and its people at the mercy of Talebans. Even hundreds of Maliks who were pro Pakistan were slaughtered right under army's nose but it didn't take any action to save their lives.
In the western provinces people hate Talebans more than they hate America and don't trust Pakistani army any more.
The only people who still consider it America's war are the Generals of Pakistani army.

and the mental fatigue of public vis-a-vis the regular politicians would propel them to move towards Taliban...

accept it or not...when i heard the girl (who was flogged) backpedalled, i felt sure Taliban has only one way to go...they are going to rule Pakistan and people may like them because of the ease of accessibility...
the main appeal would be that the Talibs not wanting material wealth...they would not loot people (like the regular politicians and babus) but just impose more codes...it would give a feeling that Talibs would make the society more egalitarian...
its long time from now before they wane...

If he was such a genius, he should have realised that a perfect state like the one he envisaged was impossible, because people are fallible.
nb, I've argued over this point with Yasser for several years now, as you might be aware. But listening to them, one gets the impression that the man was as innocent as a schoolkid.
Harish, buy a new keyboard for the love of Chiranjeevi
If it were my home computer, I would.

Harish, Majumdar, I'm really tired of Majumdar going on about Jinnah. If he was such a genius, he should have realised that a perfect state like the one he envisaged was impossible, because people are fallible.

Anil-ji,
.....Questioning loyalties of people (ncluding Hamidm, Tahmed, Urstruly) will only deplete your ranks, while Taliban ranks are probably swelling. .....
There was no need to include Urstruly in that list. Urstruly is with Taliboon, not with Pakistan.

Qaid's Pakistan (if that is MAJ) was not much different from what is Pakistan now...the moment he allowed violence related to DAD and tribal invastion of Kashmir...he ensured that Pakistan will never be a modern state....
Exactly!

I can read anger and frustration in your posts. Pakistan is going though one of the most difficult period. Questioning loyalties of people (ncluding Hamidm, Tahmed, Urstruly) will only deplete your ranks, while Taliban ranks are probably swelling.
