Beyond that, I think your piece ignores writing produced in languages other than English. Some years ago, I came across a volume of Pakistani short stories, translated from Pashtun, Baluchi, Urdu ...and published by the Sahitya Akademi! Excellent set of stories that gave me a flavor of Pakistan and its diversity.
