If no wars, no more big Armies, no more defence funds and no more mega arms production companies. Then no one will be killed in wars and all these funds now allocated for Defence will be spent for welfare of human beings.

I see plenty of typos and other mistakes, which you must correct before you send the story across next time for publication.

Under Islam, Jews and Christians had three choices: convert to Islam, retain their religion and pay tax or fight. Pagans and atheists had two choices Islam or the sword.

Narrated Muhayyisah: The Apostle of Allah said: If you gain a victory over the men of Jews, kill them. So Muhayyisah jumped over Shubaybah, a man of the Jewish merchants. He had close relations with them. He then killed him. At that time Huwayyisah (brother of Muhayyisah) had not embraced Islam. He was older than Muhayyisah. When he killed him, Huwayyisah beat him and said: O enemy of Allah, I swear by Allah, you have a good deal of fat in your belly from his property. Sunan of Abu Dawud, Book 19, Num. 2996

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. 'O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.'� Bukhari Vol. 4, Book 52, Num. 177 also 179 and 180.

“Unless ye go forth, (for Jihad). He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least.� Qur'an 9:39.

“O Prophet! Strive hard against the unbeliever and the hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell - an evil refuge indeed.� Qur'an 9:73.

God hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for their (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than God? Then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme. Qur'an 9:111.
In short, to kill and be killed is the highest achievement.

These two antagonists dispute with each other about their Lord: But those who deny (their Lord), - for them will be cut out a garment of Fire: over their heads will be poured out boiling water. With it will be scalded what is within their bodies, as well as (their) skins. In addition there will be maces of iron (to punish) them. Every time they wish to get away there, from anguish, they will be forced back therein, and (it will be said), “Taste ye the penalty of Burning!� Qur'an 22:19-22.

Strike off the heads of the disbelievers “Strike off the heads of the disbelievers and after making a wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives.� Qur'an 47:4.

“And if any believe not in Allah and His messenger, We have prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!� Qur'an 48:13

Say to the desert Arabs who lagged behind: “Ye shall be summoned (to fight) against a people given to vehement war: then shall ye fight, or they submit. Then if ye show obedience, Allah will grant you a goodly reward, but if ye turn back as ye did before, He will punish you with a grievous Penalty.� Qur'an 48:16.

Narrated 'Ikrima: Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to 'Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn 'Abbas who said: “If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Apostle forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Apostle, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him'.� Sahih Bukhari Vol. 9, Book 84, Num. 57. Also Vol. 9, Book 83 Num.17.

Narrated Abu Musa: A man embraced Islam and then reverted back to Judaism. Mu'adh bin Jabal came and saw the man with Abu Musa. Mu'adh asked, “What is wrong with this (man)?� Abu Musa replied, “He embraced Islam and then reverted back to Judaism.� Mu'adh said, “I will not sit down unless you kill him ( as it is ) the verdict of Allah and his Apostle.� Bukhari Vol .9, Book 89, Num. 271.

I heard the Prophet saying, “In the last days (of the world) there will appear young people with foolish thoughts and ideas. They will give good talks, but they will go out of Islam as an arrow goes out of its game, their faith will not exceed their throats. So wherever you find them, kill them, for there will be a reward for their killers on the Day of Resurrection.� Sahih Bukhari Vol.6, Book 61, Num. 577.

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet (peace be upon him) and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (peace be upon him) and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up. He sat before the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: Apostle of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop. And I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her. Thereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood. Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 38, Num. 4348.

Narranted Ali ibn Abu Talib: “A Jewess used to abuse the Prophet and disparage him. A man strangled her till she died. The Apostle of Allah declared that no recompense was payable for her blood.� Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 38, Num.4349.
It appears that Mohammad was extremely sensitive to criticism. He must have felt insecure that these women had such low opinions of him.

Abu Said as-Khudri said: “The apostle of Allah sent a military expedition to Awtas on the occasion of the battle of Hunain. They met their enemy and fought with them. They defeated them and took them captives. Some of the Companions of the apostle of Allah were reluctant to have intercourse with the female captives in the presence of their husbands who were unbelievers. So Allah, the Exalted, sent down the Qur'anic verse, “And all married women (are forbidden) unto you save those (captives) whom your right hand possesses.� That is to say, they are lawful for them when they complete their waiting period.� � Sunaan Abu Dawud 11.2150 referring to Qur'anic verse 4:24. Sarah: You have presented a refreshing, human angle to violence. When one hears about our brave soldiers being killed in this war on the terrorists, one must remember that for every man killed, there is a meeran bibi in some remote village in Pakistan who quietly weeps for her lost son. I wish scoundrels like Shahid Hamid (one of the generals I see on TV right now still trying to label some terrorist groups as "freedom fighters", still trying to promote militarism wrt india!!) die soon and are then given a special place in hell where they have to suffer through the pain they put the poor mothers, wives, children.

as for sri ram boowhoo here, he is just an indian trying to be funny using the style of another poster. while i am all for peace, these indians on chowk are a blessing since they help us appreciate pakistan all the more.

on #8, i just read his rubbish - i see he is no longer trying to be funny, and is back to the standard hindu berating of other religions.

Sarah, I really liked the spontaneous flow of your story. There were a few points that escaped me, for example, the climax, which (I think) could have had a bit of background or if not so, a bit of detail would have done well than to end the story on a note too sudden to swallow. (unexpected endings are good but sudden ones are not so, especially if there were two emotional focal points: her shifting of faith and the revelation of her loss).
However, the story had a natural rhythm. This, I think is the strongest aspect of your writing, its spontaneity. No one had to ask if it was a true account or not. So, congrats :)

And yes Sarah, there's one more thing that I had to appreciate, (which had actually made me read the article twice). It was the 'detail' of the portrait of Meeran bibi. The intricacy with which her character sketch was portrayed, is really impressing. For me Meeran bibi remains no more a stranger!
