True. The world can mediate. Seeking help to save millions of lives is the need of the time. A bit late would be too late.

For the sake of our freedoms we have to ensure that the military does not allow the Taliban to enter Karachi and other cities.
Both hate democracy. We don't.

I was recently in Karachi. It's a scary city. An inexplicable fear surrounds you. I could not get out of the house with my camera to take pictures of the city. Talking on a cell phone outside on the street is definitely a no no. Wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt, you are asking for it. I couldn't wait to get out of the city where I was raised and which I once loved.
There will be a massacre between the mohajirs and the pathans. The irony is that all rich mohajirs in Karachi have pathan guards with rifles.
If I had assets and could get out of Karachi (or in fact Pakistan) I would do it asap. I would sell all my assets right away and get the hell out. It's only when I am outside America I realize how good America is, and how much Pakistan sucks.

szaman, tell us more.
I too would be visiting Karachi soon. And for the first time ever I am getting an eerie feeling in my guts ... as if once I get there, I wouldn't be able to get the hell out soon enough ...
Which parts of Karachi are most affected? I'll be in the Defence phase 6 area ... and will probably stay within a few mile radius of the house.
Gawd, I never thought I'd ever dread visiting my city. Or perhaps I am getting paranoid ... I dunno ...

I stayed in Defence, can't remember which phases, and KDA. Very rich folks with beautiful big houses and lots of servants. All mohajirs with pathan guards. I was scared shit getting out of the house. I was scared talking on the cell phone while out at stores. My brother's driver told me that he was robbed three times on a bus. Each time, two people with guns walked in the bus, asked all the poor passengers to drop their cell phones in the bori one of the guys was holding. Robbing poor people at gun point. There is no security. You have to be very careful. I was going to the market wearing blue jeans and sleeve-less khaki army t-shirt, and was strictly not to do that because I will be jeopardizing not only myself but the entire family because I coud be mistaken for an American. My niece got married, and it was a dreadful event. Everybody was scared shit thinking robbers would arrive anytime. There was no music, the groom car was plain, and when my niece left with the groom she was covered all in black as to make sure she does not look like a dulhan and draw attention. This was in Defence.
Maybe you are braver than I. But be very careful and be always on your guard. Such is life in Karachi. There is no security. Something has terribly gone wrong with Pakistan in general and Karachi in particular.

I am mystified as to the reasons why the MQM, as the ruling party in Karachi, would not rein in the violence and demonstrate its power through law and order, peace and stability? It just doesn’t make a lot of sense that they would be perpetrators of such violence. It would be really short-sighted of them to allow such anarchy and lack of security in a town that voted them into power in Karachi.

Rashid,
Thank you for presenting this pessimistic, yet realistic, appraisal of life in my beloved Karachi. If the MQM is really involved in this latest upsurge of ethnic violence, it is behaving just like Modi's BJP in Gujarat. The only difference is in the numbers.
While most of us are against the Tally Ban and what they stand for, it is just as horrible as their tactics to resort to ethnic cleansing, mass murder, and violent intimidation. I am very upset at this horrible news of murder and mayhem in my Karach.

How do you pre-empt a coup d'etat?
By bringing in military to rule.
No joke.
Karachi will be better when there is a state instead of a sub-state. The city government could impose tax but it prefers extortion.
Thanks.

Prof. Tui Shui Li of Shighai university has opined on the reasons why MQM has started his ethnic claensing at this particular time, she says " about 2 billion dollar of sweetness is coming to pakistan, and all pirahnas are getting into feeding frenzy", she was delivering a lecture along with her collegue Dr. Lun Shun Poa.

"The mayhem thus created would provide Taliban the golden opportunity to take-over the city and accomplish their goal of stopping the US/NATO supplies through Karachi port. The nuclear power plant of the city would be another asset to fall in Taliban hands."
This is just so ridiculous that one shouldn't even comment on it. So the Taliban now will beat or kill all the mohajir, Sindhi, Baloch, and Punjabi in Karachi and take over the city as if they are some kind of super power that can just take over whatever they want. First the baseless stories of Ialmabad take over were spread then the stories of South Punjab going under and now Karachi is about to fall to Taliban. Have some sense and do some thinking before writing this type of sensational nonsense.
Every Pakistani thinks that they have some kind of inside information and they build a mountain out of molehill.
The MQM does not want Pathan observing 12 of May. Imran Khan had just announced that he would go to Karachi and all of sudden MQM gangsters appears all over the town and started killing the poor Pathans.
Pathan have been a target of MQM for a long time. Almost from 1985 for the simple reason they compete with the core MQM supporters in small jobs as the Taxi drivers, Rickshaw drivers, construction workers and many other menial jobs.
Right now the US and the army has designated MQM to guard the Nato supply line and the MQM needs to continue to create the drama of Taliban in Karachi to extort money not only from the US but from the Pakistan government too.
The PPP made a serious mistake in joining with the MQM in Karachi. PPP should have let the MQM paralyze the city as that was only going to hurt the MQM and no one else.
MQM is a fascist party that has sold it soul to the highest bidder. The party knows it has no room at the top in Pakistan, it feels that by violence it will blackmail the central government for some share.
I am surprised at the educated mohajir support the the Ghunda party in Karachi and then tell people the Karachi is hurting. You are going to get hurt if you continue to support ghunda, badmaash party.
