Mansoor, a most interesting piece! Thanks.

May I enquire how you became interested in this gentleman and how you got the biographical information?

Had never heard of this gentleman before. Thanks for bringing him to our notice. His case reminds me of Meena Shorey, the Lara lappa girl whose life ended in similar tragic circumstances.

Regards

The tragedy here is two-fold.

One is the suffering endured by Ali Hassan.

The second is that most of us had never heard of him.

Thanks for reminding us Mansoor Gadehi Sahib.

Re: # 9 Majorsahib you have good reminder.
While at other end Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Lahore resident after partition left Pakistan to India to his adopted country and lived and died as respected citizen of his adopted country. Once he was asked why he left. He thought for moment and said no money was not problem I got Izzat which was lacking there.

Recently there was article about here last mughal and most comments were full of emotions or ignorance.
I have read your most best monumental work. ( I may not agree with opinions or conclusions all times). I felt most will benefit by studying your book but scholarship or thinking is not out forte.
I totally agree with your conclusions which your arrived at.
1. People of india lost battle BUT WIN WAR.
2. Hindu Majority understood clearly they have won , its just now waiting game.
3. Hindus became confident and ready to bid their time and Gentry Muslim strata became worried and paranoid and leading to secterian thought and rise represented by Sir Sayed and land owning Zamindars and seeds of pakistan were in soil.
Hope time permittong you will contribute.
With best wishes.

Truth is powerful than fiction, sad story. It moves to read the man reducing to begging. It must be great sorrow. Galib wrote " Fakiri me muze bhi Mangneki Sharm ati hay".

Saadat Hassan Manto was a celebrity in India. He came to Lahore and died of nervous break down, ignored and sidelined in a country where only C_____s and P____ did well.

what to expect from a country where a burma timidity adverse report case ayub khan became army chief and a clown like zia became president.

pakistan is a pathetic case.the army collaborated with the brits and the muslim politicians who dominate it since 1947 were the worst british collaborators and their descendants.

He was doing side roles in those obscure persian flicks not knowing that the Greatest Director of them all had a fabulous role for him where he would have the chance to play rags to riches hero, casanova, heart broken lover, socialite, jilted politician, madman and a homeless beggar. Only he had to live this role, one by segment one, throughout his life...

No encores, no recognition, no awards. Just a final curtain call and its a wrap.

In a shroud.

Thanks for sharing the extraordinary story of Ali Hassan/Vijay Kumar. Such is the story of Pakistani society and state. They discredit and outcast and humiliate their wise folks into complete dismemberment and death. Josh Maleehabadi was forced to live in obscurity and poverty and state TV and radio would censure his poetry. There are many examples, some of them could be walking the streets today.

We live and we learn. Who would have thought that a guy from a small dusty villagein Sindh will have such an adventurous life.
